i have that Black Comet..or it's another name clone. THey are dark and intensely fragrant and long lasting..YOu'll love it ROger..plus they readily produce new growths..your sized Guarechea looks blooming sized or soon...thanks for sharing
I will have to treat it carefully as it's an import so it will have had a lot of stress already - it's probably changed countries 3 times already and with all that transport too.
yaay, my guess was Antelope type after you said you didnt have this type yet. They usually warm/hot growers of big to giant size so I keep away from them. Well I might have a seedling of canaliculatum which is a miniature species from Spatulata section 👼🏼👼🏼👼🏼 I was told the best way to get rid of that coconut shell medium is to soak it for couple of hours first. Regarding your Black Comet I'd repot it straight away. Remember your cordigera? 😉😉 Good luck
The number of Dens that need the low temps in Winter is less now so I may well add a degree or two to my Winter night temps. I now have two new orchids in moss - I want to do all the repotting together so will just keep then drier until then.
Congratulations on the Tangerinum. They hate being repotted. And they need a little more light than a Vanda. If you soak the coconut husk, for a couple of hours, it’ll be easier to remove. You’ll could try slashing it off in bits with a blade.and then, remove it. Once established, they flower constantly, but really get grumpy when repotted.
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai I would put this den in a bigger buscket when new growth is coming without old substrate being removed.. just adding some small size pine bark +perlite mix..
Got the black comet as well, in medium bark with good aeration, treat it like something between cattleya and oncidium. The Guarechea part is due to the hybrid: Guarianthe (now cattleya) bowringiana and Prostechea cochleata
Great addition/ purchase into your collection👍🏻 😃💚. Your Black Comet will most likely bloom, (when in spike, don’t change pot positions toward the light source, it will stop growing). I do grow Prostechea cochleata aka.clamshell orchid, it does have a rhizome like Cattleya. Blooms for very long time and new growth starts at almost the end of blooming cycle ,also new growth takes a bit of time to start showing roots in my experience. Hope to see all your new plants 🌿🌱growing strong and healthy, looking forward to beautiful blooms. 🤗🌸
I am loving the look of the black comet and guessed the antelope type as we’ll, coz I bought one end of last year and it was and still is in that awful stuff. Both of them came from Schwerters I’d say as well. Will be good to see them grow on.
Most of the antelope Dens are warmer growers but if the winter temps can't be maintained, they will rest and, I'm told, the roots rot easily in cooler temps. I'll be sorting out these and the two from Burnham's once they've had a week or two to settle in.
Forgot to mention, i think the tangerinum needs a very dry winter rest, got one last autumn and in the winter it promptly decide to rot even though i was keeping it fairly moist. Now got a discolor, same habit of growth and needs it seems, have it in a cattleya sort of mix regarding media and it should grow fine (this is by my experience with them ofcourse)
The Spatulata Section are warmer growers and if good night temps can be maintained, do not need much of a rest - they will grow all year round - like the Phalaenopsis and Latouria types. However, in cooler temps where they stop growing, yes, very little water.
I wanted to replace my Louisendorf, wanted the Black Comet at Burnham's but they wouldn't part with theirs and I've been after a couple of Dens in the Spatulata Section for some time. They all just came along together.
Most of the Spatulata Section are warmer growers that don't need a full rest (just less water in Winter). With good night temps, they would probably keep growing year round.
Nice haul! I received my order from Spicesotic today also! Looks like we have similar tastes!! I got that Black comet too and an antelope type, mine is Den nindii, a blueish/purple style one! Will be good to compare how they both do alongside mine!
Dendrobiums from the Spatulata Section are refereed to as 'antelope orchids' as the two petals stick upwards (instead of sideways) and look like horns - often twisted too.
The blooms on orchids in this section vary but in the main, the two petals point upwards like 'horns' rather than out sideway and are often twisted - some more so than others. There are some good hybrids too.
Ynse recently bought a Black Comet so you can compare your plant to his if you want to see it blooming size. The Louisendorf looks like it is in a smaller grade bark so it should be OK for a while, it should be pretty good at retaining moisture.
I'll get the Zygo out of it's pot today - I don't want to get caught out not knowing if something different is under that bark. (I just didn't want the mess in the kitchen.)
Great new acquisitions - Very much looking forward to the blooms and repotting. 💗👍
Very beautiful new ones. Thank you and keep us posted on progress🌸
With these and the ones from Burnham's, looks like a big repotting session in a week or two after they've settled in.
Love your new arrivals.👍
Thanks.
Nice choices of orchids
Thanks.
You got a new antelope type orchid, how great 😁
I'd like a few, but they don't come up for sale often - and now my choices are a lot less as I'm limited to UK sellers.
Healthy looking purchases! I'm looking forward to their blooms!
Thanks.

Welcome à bord little zygopetalum! I love the Louisendorf, the fragrance is amazing
I would say overpowering even 😁
I was sad when I lost the last one - hopefully, I can grow this one well.
Nice addition to the collection - looking forward to see them grow and flourish in your care. Thanks for sharing Roger
You're welcome.
It's hard to claim they jumped up into your hand and begged to go home when you buy online.
I love the colour on the zygo thanks for the unboxing

How exciting, for me at least ❣️ Looking forward to the repot 🙃
I will wait a week or two to let the plants settle in.

I am in love with the Guarechea Black Comet! I have just added to my wish list!!! Great new haul!
Bought mainly for the colour but the blooms are a good size too.
great haul Roger, I have not gotten my black comet to bloom yet, I'll watch and see if you grow your plant differently than I do mine
I will get a media that can drain fast and good light once it's settled in.
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsaimine is in bark!I keep getting growths with a sheave but no spike, maybe it needs more sun ?
A blooming-sized plant that refuses to bloom will normally respond to being moved to a brighter position (but not always).
What a coincidence I just got the Louisendorff and two Black Comets 😁 I'll wait for you to do the repot
I'll be giving them a week or two to settle in first. I'll keep the ones in moss drier until then.
@@RogersOrchidsGardenandBonsai Well I can wait I hate repotting anyway 😁
Well, it was Tom’s fault, not yours!
Very nice!
Still, it was good to get the email as that Zygo Louisendorf was the last one.
I just got bunch of the Dendrobium…. I would be looking forward to see how you grow it.

If your Den is in that coconut husk, give it a long soak before attempting to get it off. You will loose some roots.
Great unboxing! Like the zygote, very nice colour. Can grow them, always die. Do you repot straight away?
I'll be waiting a week or two before repotting.
I have a Zygopetalum hybrid i have had it for 3 months now i got most of my orchids from the same seller
I would love to see you repot the dendrobium
It will get a week or two to settle in and a good soak before I try and get that coconut husk off.
3 beauties, what is an Antelope type? Much love Ju xxx
Dendrobiums from the Spatulata Section are refereed to as 'antelope orchids' as the two petals stick upwards (instead of sideways) and look like horns - often twisted too.
Is the Antelope type referring to the flower shape ?
Yes, Dendrobiums in the section Spatulata are known as antelope horn dendrobiums, due to the lovely, twisted flowers resembling antelope horns.
@@rianmilit Thank you ! 😁
