I grew up in Kennett, Mo watching this period. Finest wrestling show ever! Lance Russel signed my shirt when I was a kid. I was too shy to look at him. I called him Lance Wrastling! lol Lawler was my childhood hero. Thanks for posting this stuff!
Couldn't say it better, that was an angle. Something most companys today know nothing about, Lawler and Dundee had a reason to get in the ring against each other. Memphis had the best angles in those days, now two guys get into a match or a last man standing or cage for absolutely no reason, no storyline, no angle, throw in some highspots and fans go crazy. Thanks for showing some of the new school fans what wrestling is all about.
Just look at everyone in the audience...particularly the kids outside in the parking lot...they are high as kites; not on drugs, of course, but on the joy of truly wonderful theatre...wrestling at its best.
It's so staged and get to be on TV. Of course, they are high on being starstruck. I'll bet a million if there were cell phones, that's all that would be seen in their hands.
Brian Henegar I wonder how many times Lance Russell had to endure being called "Banana nose" by the wrestlers, especially one Jerry "The King" Lawler? People sure can be mean sometimes!
I grew up on memphis wrestling and these wrestlers on Saturdays at 11am. I'd always watch it with my dad with lance, Dave and Corey, as the announcers calling the matches. Thanks for sharing these videos here.
Lawler vs. Dundee was classic wrestling at its best! Loved it then. Love it now, "daddy" and "Jack"...."Jackie Fargo says I'm the best brother....we've whipped um all brother!" Bill Dundee was something else and Lawler and Lance Russell played off of it best. Classic Memphis wrestling at its best.
GShea I got this whole feud at home on DVD if I say were I got it some error thng pops up. Its great quality and has the whole feud from start to finish.
I agree. Lawler was too caught up in the angle to notice anyone or anything peripheral. Thanks for letting me know that song. I've been wondering what song that was for over 35 yrs...and I'm only 40! Been watching Memphis rasslin' that long...
In refrence to The Bill and Buddy Show look it up its hilarious. Just shows how these guys put thier heart and soul into it evry time the cameras rolled.
When Bill Dundee came to Georgia Championship Wrestling for a short run in the early 80s, Gordon Solie hyped Dundee prior to his arrival with a promo video of Dundee that was edited to "Dirty White Boy" by Foreigner. Despite its campy elements, it was one of the greatest wrestling promos I've ever seen. Might anyone have it to post here?
Was there a reason this angle happened so quick? Like perhaps someone else got injured or cancelled some dates so they needed to turn Dundee heel to give Lawler a hot feud? I mean, saying uncomfortable comments, upsetting the Fabulous One's, hitting Lawler, goading him into title v hair, having the match and cheating to win, gloating about it, refusing him a rematch, having Lawler threaten to smash his car and thus signing anyway, in one episode? That's four weeks material right there!
greyjdog Now that you mention it, it does seem like this particular angle was very rushed. They truly should have strung this out over a several week period, which would've generated a lot more heat, and either put butts in seats, or caused more fans than usual to tune in on the ol' Television. The worst thing you can do is rush through a hot angle like this! It's like taking a pork sandwich, taking out the pork and eating it, and throwing away the bun!
He’s throwing it back to Rick Rude busting up his car. Classic. ua-cam.com/video/KSLABDyNhKg/v-deo.html This whole Austin Idol/Jerry Lawler angle is good, too. ua-cam.com/video/RhgVdD4Mt3U/v-deo.html It starts out with Tommy Rich. 👍
i loved watching the fans the girl about to cry when lawler was in the parking lot and the 1 guy dancing when dunndee signed the contracy LMAO classic stuff
Oh, yeah...Ol' Jerry's really the one to talk about cheating! As many times as he's been known to cheat, what with fireballs and such...The Superstar, Bill Dundee, was the better one of the two!
WOW¡!!That is THE WAY how to taunt, rant and talk crap without getting in the ring. You must have this type of announcer to do it. You must give that announcer/interviewer the same amount of credit. All you "wrestlers" today, WATCH AND LEARN.
i think at this point there were too many faces Lawler,Dundee, The Fabs. they needed a good hot heel and besides Lawler there was no better or hotter heel than Dundee so thats how this all took place. If im not mistaken this is when Lawler went on vacation thus the loser leaves town match. He talks about this whole angle in his book. this was his idea because he wanted to lose so he could take his new wife to Hawii on vacation. Man did it ever work.
Beckie didn't pin the baddest woman on the planet her shoulders were a foot of the canvas I wish they would quit saying beckie two belts beat Ronda she didn't do it
What I didn't understand about this angle was why they eventually let Coco B Ware wrestle Ric Flair instead of Lawler or Dundee. Lawler and Dundee were the top guys in the territory at the time next to the Fabs and Dutch mantell.
Dundee Was Booking At The Time He Need Someone To Feud With Cause Flair Wasn’t Going To Stick Around There For A Run In Memphis As He Had Other Obligation So Koko Had The Mid America Title At The Time He Put It On The Line Against Dundee’s Shot At Flair Because That Mean Dundee Would Have The Southern Belt And The Number One Contender Belt In The Mid America Title However Koko Beat Him On The Saturday Morning Show And Wrestled Ric Flair That Monday Night But It Was All Done To Set Up Dundee And Koko Fued Until Lawler Returned From Whatever He Was Doing... Rogé Selig I have the feeling that Jerry Lawler was exerting a powerful amount of pull, and that their power structure almost always pandered to him. He was their favorite guy, just like Hulk Hogan was, when he was in the WWF so long ago. It's always about who you know, if ya know what I mean!
This angle led to about 4 or 5 other angles all intertwind into this one angle. Buddy Landell and Dutch Mantell get involved they beat up Jeff and Jerry Jarrett and of course Ole bag o bones Eddie Marlin as Dundee calls him. Dundee evn slaps Lance once. That leads to the infamous Bill and Buddy Show great times to b a fan. WWE has trouble runnin 1 angle at a time let alone 4 or 5. Take note WWE this is how its done.
It was angles like this that made Memphis rasslin' so great! Its a shame that there will probably be nothing like this on tv ever again.
I grew up around the Memphis area. The local wrestling in the 70's and 80's was some of the best. Thanks for posting these. Great memories.
i remember all of this on TV. Thanks for posting!

Oh Jesus, all the fans in the parking lot trying to tell Jerry to hold off...unreal. Just brilliant.
Man that was Amazing ! Memphis Wrestling was great, no doubt. So original, so many fantastic ideas !
What Dundee did here was purely awesome and hilarious.
Just look at everyone in the audience...particularly the kids outside in the parking lot...they are high as kites; not on drugs, of course, but on the joy of truly wonderful theatre...wrestling at its best.
High on ignorance, lol

He's still got that Ball Bat, in his hand !
"Lemme tell ya sumthin DUNDY!"
Memphis wrestling was the best of the best, often copied but never duplicated!
arghh, great easy Wrestling days....you got to love it.
Great stuff here. Dundee reminds me a lot of Fit Finlay (though I know one is irish and the other is scottish)
My favorite line: "I KNOW HE'S SERIOUS...LIKE A HEART ATTACK MAN..." Lance Russell, the most underrated announcer in history
Brian Henegar I wonder how many times Lance Russell had to endure being called "Banana nose" by the wrestlers, especially one Jerry "The King" Lawler? People sure can be mean sometimes!
My vote goes to Bob Caudle on this one. Very underappreciated. Lance Russell was correctly judged as greatness personified on play by play.B.W.
Dundee was awesome!!!

I grew up on memphis wrestling and these wrestlers on Saturdays at 11am. I'd always watch it with my dad with lance, Dave and Corey, as the announcers calling the matches. Thanks for sharing these videos here.
galen johnson Banana nose was ok as Lawler's stooge. . .I mean announcer.
Grew up in Memphis also. Born here in 1956. I used to go see it at 11a.m. at channel 13 WHBQ before it moved to WMC channel 5 studio.

Do you know the name of the music that plays before the breaks?

Do a contract no title change on a count out or DQ.When things get too hot have your buddy attack Lawler or just run out to the back lol

It was well staged. Great timing. It was convincing, except for the kid that took pictures and waving to the cameras.
@hollywoodtetsu I heard Dundee made most of his money owning strip clubs around the Memphis area

Great stuff, remember this as a kid. But "let me tell ya somethin'" is still the most overused phrase ever.
And "brother". Worked for Hogan, felt corny on these guys.
lol .. Were those Mempho cops directing traffic outside? lol
Hymie Grier I think that was security for the place they were in.
Lawler used chains.
Lol plenty

How much did they pay the local pimp to rent his car for this angle?
