In this clip, Raekwon opened up about being at the Source Awards when Suge Knight took shots at Diddy while accepting an award, which led to VIBE magazine declaring it an East Coast vs West Coast beef. Raekwon explained that the East and West Coast had nothing to do with the situation, which he pointed out was between Death Row and Bad Boy. To hear more, including Raekwon speaking about Wu-Tang members working with 2Pac amid the beef, hit the above clip.

As a Brooklynite New Yorker that grew up on the '90s era hip Hop, I never understood that whole fake East Coast vs West Coast BS... As I grew older I realized how much more the media had everything to do with hyping that situation, and the simp-minded fans that fed into it were brainwashed to be pitted against each other 🤦🏾♂️... I see similar tactics going on today through social media... I've always had love for the West Coast as well as South... I got family from the south and my current wife is from Inglewood CA. ..It's all love, we are ONE... Don't let the media gas you
It’s all about staying sucker free and staying out of the way when problems arises especially if you aren’t involved in it….
Only 2 rap groups has ever captured my full attention in my nearly 40 years of listening to and buying hip-hop and those two groups are PUBLIC ENEMY AND WU-TANG CLAN!!!
and the Saga on Hulu brings it home full circle for me.
2 Pac and Outlawz are from the East Coast. That beef made no sense.
That’s what people fail to realize. Pac, the Outlawz and some of the Thug Life crew were all from Jersey or NYC. Pac never did the whole “west side is the best side” shit until he got shot and set up in NY. Before that he was still an east coast nigga living in the west.

1995 Interview from Staten Island Method Man himself said get your shit together. The illuminati coming..things changing. then 9/11 happened not long after
As a New Yorker I always loved Hip Hop, I have been a huge fan of Rap music since 86 and a part of the Culture since 1991 as a Graffiti writer, back in the days in NYC you either rapped, Brake danced, wrote Graffiti or Djayed as well as dressed the part Baggy jeans, Timbs etc long story short Wu Tang came out at a time when we needed them, they came out around the time Nas and Big dropped which put NYC back on the Map because L.A took the ball from us for a while. The Wu was some amazing ish back then because no one ever saw something like that before.
I hope Ra comes back because He can make anything sound interesting!
Nicely Put!!
Didn't wu tang come out before Big and Nas blew up tho I know Nas & Big was around in 92 but they wasn't stars yet

BIG brought the east back better believe that..Jadakiss..To me, BIG brought it back more than anyone else on the east.
@@elliot2177 You gotta give props to Onyx, too, for starting it off.. They were huge in '93. And they were rugged and raw. Biggie did it by borrowing the West Coast sound on Big Poppa.
This makes me think of how when Outkast had Rae on their Aquemini album and deaded all that shyt! They got together and made a classic record! That east coast west coast shyt was lame looking back on it. Peace to all hip hop!

KRS-1 said the same thing..
Method Man during an interview with "The Daily Post" said that "Vibe should've caught a bullet off that Biggie Puff Vibe cover with the caption East Vs West." That was irresponsible journalism fueling the conflict with their publication.

That meeting that executives had in the 90s had much to do with "gangster" rap being sensationalized to promote death and incarceration. East vs west might have been the perfect storm for record sales and all of the above.
Wish more people would see this comment......100% correct
You talking about that so-called secret society meeting that was talked about on hip hop message boards back in the early '00s? I've always wondered if it was true.
@@KtotheG it’s evident the meeting happened, for example that high vibration true hiphop content of unifying and waking up the people, that was being played on the radio was replaced with low vibrational rap ,
@@bakchweza254 And black people were complicit... Bob Johnson sold out to Viacom years ago... this would've never happened if we didn't allow it.. That's cool, because I like what I like and I know how to think critically.

Respect to chef just wish this interview was longer and questions about the Hulu series was asked.
Thanks glad !
rae was immediately fedup with this question as soon as he reached for his phone
The way he talks I love it.. “ yea inspecta threw a missile in” haha
Deck always had fire features so using "a missile" was very appropriate as descriptive jargon.
Bruh i was a teen during that make believe east/west coast beef..yeah the media and sources got really paid off that sht..we in texas fed into it too..i thought it was real until i got older..social media wasn't hot then
It wasn't make believe... the fans was bout it.. it's just that the media stoked the flames unnecessarily, but there were heads on both coasts who has animosity toward the other coast during that time... and really, Tim Dog from the Bronx started it all with "Fuck Compton" back in '91. That's why Snoop & Dre responded to him on The Chronic in '92. The Bad Boy & Death Row beef got folded into that lingering animosity, along with Pac vs Big.
@@KtotheG you know what..your right..i forgot about tim dog..fuc song
I grew up listening to west coast but the wu tang always had a place in me.
Wu-Tang got that knowledge and awareness. Street cats but their mental game is another level. They didn't fall into that trap. That's one thing I always respect about Wu-Tang. They made have inner squabbles but Wu-Tang has a unique style and code they carry themselves by.
This is a perfect example how social media outlets like TV, Internet, magazines can make the weather stormy on a social level. I think it’s even more worse now with this generation clout chasing addiction to likes and followers.

That's interesting. In Vlad's interview with Keefe D. He said something completely different.
Treach know gangsters only read the Source. Vibe just wanted to sell magazines to the rap crowd. Vibe was always for the R&B heads
It was for the folk music heads.
Nah, they covered hip hop, R&B and some jazz... they had Snoop Dogg on the very issue back in September '93... Quincy Jones wanted to cover popular black music at the time, not just rap. His son, QDIII was one of the publishers or editors.
@@KtotheG I have no more than 10 Vibe magazine's. No one from the hood had a Vibe magazine in their hand going to school. It was always a Source or XXL. Vibe was cool tho. I'm just saying...they didn't know any better. Source Magazine wasn't touching that drama at the time
@@jknumber5138 VIBE covered Pac a lot... I read the issues where Little Shawn, Puffy and Big was talking shit about him when he went to jail.. I also read the famous one where he interviewed with Kevin Powell, telling him that "thug life" is ignorance and that it's dead. This was right before he went in. He sounded like he was either scared he wasn't going to make it out alive or he was going to turn over a new leaf when he gets out. He came back harder because they were talking about him in the next issue after he went in. Puffy clearly said, "ain't no in and out with being a thug..." I think if they hadn't been mocking him and just let that man do his time in peace, there would've been no beef. Then Puffy drops "Who Shot Ya," which wasn't about Pac, but the fans didn't know that.. so he did that to fuck wit him. P. Diddy sparked it... and Little Shawn, because he was at Quad when Pac got shot, too. I think he was in the session with Biggie and Cease.
Who Shot Ya was on the Who's The Man movie right?. Biggie did release other side B songs around that time. "Dreams" came out around that time also.
The east coast/west coast was like a modern equivalent of a Shakespearean play.
