    Rugging up in foul weather is such a basic component of horse care, thank you for showing others how to do horse keeping right. It takes more than a flake of hay and a few alfalfa pellets to own a horse. Your volunteers are amazing people, and so are you.

    I wanted to shout out the younger generation for all their help. It takes lots of hands to keep a rescue organization running. All those chores you do really make a difference. The horses put on quite a show of appreciation for the warm blankets. It was a joy to watch them!

When you started I only worried if you would have enough blankets in the right sizes. I knew you would have them all taken care of regardless. Warm weather will again be on the horizon. God Bless all the lovely hands that work with each and every animal!

    I remember the challenge of trying to keep my thin-skinned Arab warm in the winter in Wisconsin. When it was dry and not too windy, his thick winter coat was adequate, but with wet, wind & temps that fluctuated and plunged, he'd shiver uncontrollably even with free-choice hay all day. I had blankets for him in all thicknesses, from thin to medium to heavy duty. And there were times when actual temps were -20 with windchills down to -85. I double blanketed everyone, and they stayed in the barn, out of the wind. Temps like that are why horses in Wisconsin lose ears. Winter in Wisconsin with horses is a challenge for sure.

    This has been SUCH a great week for me! Instead of having to wait for a whole week to see what the Pony Tales crew is up to, now I get delightful footage throughout the week. I am over the moon! THANK YOU! BTW, I was raised in Michigan and spent about 6 years in St. Paul, MN. When I look across your snow-covered landscape, I can almost feel the cold and the wind. I think that is why I now live in California (sorry!).

    Great so many showed up to help. When l was growing up in No Alabama, we often had as much as 4ft of snow several times each year. Loved seeing your horses have their own rodeo in the pasture!!! Memories❤

    I love watching you all. Just one thing that worries me in England and Ireland which is were I have my 5 horses are we never tie a horse to something static by the lead rope. We always tie a lope of baling twine around the static thing and the lead rope is then tied to the twine. I have seen so many accidents for both horses and human if the horse spooks and runs the twine just breaks. Sorry to go on its just safer. No hate here you do amazing work.

    Considering the number of horses to blanket, would it increase efficiency to use an indelible marker to mark sizes on each blanket, maybe on the left shoulder so it's easy to see?

    Weather can sure put a monkey wrench in the works! With it snowing, then raining then snowing and then temps dropping really low, it is a good thing to blanket them especially the thin ones. You will also be battling ice so hope the ones that are a bit lame don't have problems. Then of course it will melt, and it will be mud city! A mess for sure. I follow Free Spirit Equestrian as well, Srrhae goes to great lengths as well for her horses, some of them are really furry like her gypsy's and some are already half shedded out because they had a warm spell, so she also goes through blanket wars as well. Hope the storm is less than predicted and good luck there. Great job with the young people helping!

      Also, in a lot of cases, given a choice, the horses prefer to be outside anyway. I've been watching my mare and her herd for 20 years. Doesn't matter what I think of the weather, they would rather be outside, and they have ample room in the covered pen, as well as free access.

    A simple thought. The word 'hate' gives off negative mental vibes. Once capitalized, feels even more negative 'HATE'. Sarcasm is hard to read. I suggest giving off a more appropriate word as 'dislike' or simply disregard sarcasm and say what is meant: 'enjoy'.

    I am from another country. May I ask why all the people rugging the horses put the rugs on so far back to begin with, then have to drag them forward to get the neck done up (hence pulling all the body hair forward)? Surely it is more comfortable and faster and altogether easier to throw it more over the neck, wither area, get the neck set, then pull back to see the length? Watching these people, it seems such an all round inefficient way of trying a rug on a horse to see if it fits, and securing it if it does. Logic tells me you must have some reason for doing it the way you do....?

    • @lauralake7430
      @lauralake7430 6 місяців тому +5

      I think they are just trying blankets for size, doing the best they can. Likely most of those horses have never been blanketed, or they dont know if they have, and they have a lot of donated blankets to get through, try on and maybe 15 to 20 horses to either blanket or find cover for before dark. They are pretty far north, too, so it gets dark really early. Im sure your method is the best, but they were doing their best.

    • @payntpot7623
      @payntpot7623 6 місяців тому +1

      @@lauralake7430 Thanks, although none of what you mention explains the why of that "method?" I could see what and why they were doing, I was questioning their method of achieving the end goal of getting the horses rugged (albeit post haste). I was asking if there was a particular reason they were putting the rugs on the way they were? Specifically, why put them on further back, then have to pull forward? It would take less time the way I suggested, and be kinder to the horses at the same time. Since that was not being done, I wondered if I was missing something? I felt there must have been a logic I (and perhaps other viewers) were unaware of? Such logic still escapes me if it exists.
      Still, they will be toasty warm in their sleeping bags. Must be a nightmare having enough sizes on hand to ensure days of waterproof cover!
