Dave was the ultimate showman - their last hit .I don't know if they were fed up with Dave. The possibility is they had just had enough of this sort of stuff. Dave was the heart and soul of the band.

They were a great 60's band IMO, comparable to The Hollies maybe. As a kid in that era, their records probably had a bigger effect on me than those of many other big name acts.
Dave would part ways with the group after this single. He's still putting on a happy face here but you can tell by everyone else's expressions and body language that they weren't having it anymore. The resulting 'Fresh Ear' LP by DBM&T was definitely fresher sounding than this!
Dave Dee was nothing if not astute. He knew which way the wind was blowing. Every single after 'Legend Of Xanadu' had a lower chart peak. But what a legacy he left. Da-da da-da-da da-da-da-da England! Or whatever your choice of football team might be.
One of the greatest of all the 1960s British bands. They had a unique quality of their own. Wrote all their own songs. Sounded as good live as on records. This is not their best song.
Very clever song. Underrated. They were a fantastic band, with a sound like no other.
You cannot beat the songs of this era.
