Order and delivery process and how long it took
Unboxing experience of the Eve Spectrum including the stand
Go through the Eve Spectrum design, spec and ports
How the Eve Spectrum works with a MacBook and PS5
Whether it's worth the high price tag

This is exactly what I’ve been looking for with the input selection, design, color accuracy and resolution. The KVM Switch along with generous port selection is definitely a plus, it’s just a shame Eve themselves seem to be so inconsistent with shipping
I love this channels reviews, so detailed. This guy knows the information we're looking for n' need to know
I had a very similar experience ordering the display. I ordered one day before you haha. I honestly love mine I can’t lie. Use it for my MacBook and PS5.
I am able to get 144hz on my MacBook with a USB C to DisplayPort cable.
Interesting. That’s 144hz and 4K via a USB-C to DisplayPort?
Oooo that’s something I didn’t try.
@@Oliur Can we get a follow up on this? Tempted to get one but I want 144hz for my MacBook Pro M1 Max.
@@zackgib if you have a USB c to Display Port cable it works. I‘m using it too!
Assume that it doesn’t then charge if coming through the Display Port?
Nice review! The color accuracy and one cable connection to a MBP seem like great selling points. I am tempted to pick one up!
Is it any good for graphic / print design ?
@@shazzshank6393 It really is. I'm a video editor and the color accuracy of this monitor is way over the average. With the factory calibration, mine came with a delta E of 1.2 or so. Colors are bright but not oversaturated. I,m in love
It makes sense that the MacBook would still think it's plugged into the monitor when the input is changed. I don't think I've tried a monitor yet where this isn't the case. This is so that when changing inputs, PCs don't have to constantly adjust for adding/removing a display every time you change inputs. This is overall preferable. I use multiple monitors with multiple inputs for each, and if the PC sensed that it was "disconnected" every time I changed input, it'd be incredibly frustrating.
Is the performance worth the wait. Been looking for a USB monitor for my Macbook that also doubles up for gaming and this looks like performance wise to be a great shout
multiple users on Eve Forums have said the long wait was worth it. Those that did standard shipping. I suggest express shipping if you want an eve spectrum. they are coming out with a glossy finish next year.
I'd personally wait for the Glossy version.
4K is however not a great resolution for macOS. It should be 5k to get retina when using default scaling.
@@RickSanchez__642 its much better than qhd though.
I am a happy customer. Received my screen back in august screen is amazing.only the manual firmware update is a mess.
I ordered this today. Will share my experience as they progress.
How's it going?
@@skylerbartholomew7802 They were supposed to deliver it in January. But that didn't happened then it got shifted to February. And now they're saying because of COVID spike in hongkong they are planning to deliver next week. In this process I've paid them full amount and they requested twice to pay back the full amount. I've told them I already paid and then they said it was by accident and i should ignore the mail. So yeah. Not happy with the whole scenario.
Dang and ordered about a month ago? Thanks for the reply. Now I'm not really sure I should order one
@@skylerbartholomew7802 i ordered it on Dec 31st 2021
@@mrktim any update?
Love oliur reviews 💃💃
i think you should make a podcast cause the voice is heavenly🥰🥰
for me, the eve spectrum being able to daisy chain monitors through DP and the USB cables it what sells it for me. The high refresh rate and color accuracy and HDR are just ice cream on top.
So basically this beast can make a 3 in 1 setup all possible while using one cable to connect and power your macbook. And I believe thats the only monitor on the market that can do it.(PS5 PC one cable mac) at the same time. With a proper monitor arm and that 4 sides boarderless design and some proper cable manegement, you can make a hell of clean all in one setup with this monitor.
This. I can’t think of another monitor that can do this.
This timeline is exactly the same as mine other than that I ordered it in September 2020.
It is a great monitor though and I'm happy with the purchase.
Wow thanks for making this video this monitor is exactly what i’ve been looking for, both for gaming and content creation. Such a great review.
Glad to hear the feedback. I hope they do release the glossy version.
Oh yes, I hope and pray they do. I hate matte screens
Yert
they just did haha
Almost 2 years for a wait for me. Kept getting the run around. Finally received mine today......
I’ve watched few of the reviews of this monitor and although everyone is super happy with it, I’m thinking that if you have a technical issue with it, and the customer service is what it is, then we have a seriously frustrating issue on our hands. I think I’m old enought now to appreciate NOT having to fight every minute of every day of my life for things, so although I’d love to have 144Hz monitor, I think I’ll just stay with good ol’60Hz and just get a Benq PD.
I was thinking the very same thing. I have come to appreciate good customer service after running into trouble with other devices and having their customer support gaslight me about how everything is fine when their products clearly don't work.
You made the right decision, I had audio issues with mine and after 8 months I finally got it sent back and all they did was clean it and not fix the audio issues. The eve customer support is the worst of the worst.
@@Steven0219. This is what I don't get. It will kill even the best product...I feel your pain :)
@@Steven0219. what was the problem with the audio?
I just got this monitor. It's beautiful. It supports 4K 144hz now via USB-C on my Macbook Air M1, I just needed to update the monitor into firmware version 105 and use a decent cable that can handle the bandwidth, they say Apple's TB3 cable can support it. I'm currently using the cable that came with my LG 27UP850.
USB-C to USB-C or USB-C to DisplayPort?
@@dickidahrurozak USB C to USB C. One cable only for the display, charging and my LAN adapter. It outputs 4k 144hz in my Macbook Air M1. I am currently using the TB 3 cable from Apple.
is this matte or glossy monitor?
@@akombalasau4022 Matte
when did you order it and when did you receive it?
Interesting, the whole shipping thing really puts me off. I went to see how much they'd charge for UK shipping and I can't choose it as an option. How did you order it?
5:45 wrong assumption. Type B is there not because there is usb hub, but to enable KVM functionality - for that you need second upstream, otherwise you could just route the USB hub to USB-С upstream without having second upstream port. Now, having two USB upstreams, you can switch between them (called USB Hub source in menu) OR switch the videoinput + upstream simultenously from the Input/Ouput submenu.
A color accurate 4K gaming monitor for under $1000. This might be my dream monitor!
It's 1100$ now.
I'm not sure if someone's said this already or if you've figured it out since making this video, but there is a firmware update for the monitor that essentially allows you to use it at 144hz 4k with the Mac. There's a catch: You need to use a Windows computer to do the update.
I realized a lot of content creators play apex. I love it. The setup is beautiful
I am a Swedish reseller of Eve monitors and the Thunderbolt 4 cable (I suppose) you use (USB-C - USB-C) can only perform 4K@120hz x 1 monitor or 2 monitors 4K@60hz
The only option to get 4K@144hz is to use usb to display port, but you cannot use the “one cable” solution and you will still need a cable for charging the MacBook. Totally worth 120hz and only have 1 cable I think. 😊
You might've figured it out already but I think to get more than 60hz you need a usb-c cable that supports display port 1.4.
All I want is DP2 on it and it's a buy for me. Also... Dave2D had interesting video regarding a possible Glossy variant... Usually I hate gloss, but he almost had won me over...
Quality review. Honestly to be expected with something that's crowdfunded, and I also worry about perhaps Long term use and support? But hey, that glossy version once said and done..omg
Cool Review! I bought the same monitor - which Settings you use on ps5 und warzone to play warzone? Sometimes the picture has white flickering in warzone ?
Did you use a thunderbolt cable with your Macbook or just a regular USBC?
Thanks for the good vid
I've seen so many reviews now and am more undecided than ever. I'm a content creator who uses Adobe CC and want something between 4k-5k that is going to last. So many damn options. I do love the minimalistic look to it and having two on a vesa mount sounds ideal... or maybe even one Lg Ultrawide. Ugh. Are you still using this monitor?
For the 144hz I believe you need to use the DisplayPort to USB-C, not USB-C to USB-C
Damn that's unfortunate. I want to get this monitor so I can have a one cable setup with my Macbook but there would be no sound output
That's really unfortunate, and I dare say somewhat of a dealbreaker for a monitor that sells itself on excellent Mac support.
@@phucky0o could be still possible with a thunderbolt 4 dock. But that's also expensive and the usb-c port on the monitor is then useless.
Ahh you missing out on the exciting glossy model. Any particular reason why u got the matte? Still waiting on mine with a 3 month delay.
Glossy probably wasn't available when he placed the order
Any updates on the mbp14 not running it at 144hz? Thats quite a big deal for me... Have you tried an hdmi 2.1 to thunderbolt 4 dongle or something?
Hi there. Awesome review. Random question. Where did you get the wooden/metal shelving in your studio?
Oliur, were you able to figure out 144hz? I've heard that you need to connect to windows and do some sort of firmware update?
Hopefully I get mine this month I ordered it back in October. Its expected to arrive Jan 2022 no specific date just month. Can't wait to use it with my Xbox Series X and play at 4k 120hz. And one thing I like is they did not charge me yet for the monitor until they ship it. They did charge me 100 for stand. Just letting anyone know just incase they are interested.
Please do give us an update if you have received yours! And let us know if you encounter any problems with eve or the monitor 😃
Any update?
@@skylerbartholomew7802 Nope not yet they already charge me and everything they need to work on the delivery process it takes way to long
@@-XenomorphSix wow that is unreal! That is such a bummer to hear
@@skylerbartholomew7802 Yeah :( And they still had the audacity to charge me for shipping lol
Great review, thanks mate
Beautiful Video man... Which software you used for framerate?
If they could stock some up to major retailers in other countries that would be mad
Hi,
Thanks a lot four your video about Eve Spectrum.
Just one question : is-it possible to switch off the blue led which is just under the screen ?
Best Regards from France !
Yes, you can turn off the LED completely.
Thunderbolt USB-C is needed to support 4K above 60Hz. Most Macs are thunderbolt, however most monitors are NOT. Thus, you need a DisplayPort 1.4 adapter. It’s like plugging in a HDMI 2.1 cable with Xbox Series X into a HDMI 2.0 port display, not enough bandwidth supported in the port.
10:03 beaming with the flatline sheesh
Great review, thanks!
Love the review bro. Question, does the monitor come with a UK plug or EU plug ?
Mine came with a UK plug.
@@Oliur Awesome man, thanks !
Yo where is your knit from? I'm pretty sure i have a lightly branded version of that exact knit but would be nice to know where to get an unbranded version!
Hey Oliur did you get it with glossy finish or matte?
Cons:
• 8-bit panel
• 750 nits peak?!
• No TB4/USB4
Looks solid, but those features are table stakes at this point!
For the Price it's good. Thunderbolt docks alone cost half the price of that monitor.
I'm sold! Going to buy this for my Mac Studio. Just a shame there is no built in webcam/mic/speakers.
Did you recieve a monitor as of yet? I ordered mine in March and I'm still waiting 😓
@@Shadowsmoke11 have you received yours?
Been looking to get one for a long time. The value is crazy
I assume it is not a glossy screen, right? Are you satisfied with the sharpness?
7:50 the latest MacBooks are HDMI 2 not 2.1 and cannot output 4K at 144hz. This isn’t even a mac issue - There isn’t enough bandwidth to push that refresh rate at 4K over a HDMI 2 interface, and even if there was, Apple explicitly lists 4K 60hz in their technical specs.
but he’s attempting that over the usb c connection, not the hdmi 2.0 connection so that doesn’t affect his situation
I wasn’t using HDMI. I was using USB-C. But yes, you’re right about what it supports. It’s interesting the option even comes up in the display settings so it might be something Apple adds later on.
@@Oliur
4k 144hz uses almost the entire bandwidth of a cable, you can't drive a display at that configuration and use the same usb-c cable for data transfer and charging. Your best bet is to buy a separate thunderbolt to displayport 1.4 cable and use that for display only
@@sys-administrator 👏
@@sys-administrator but the new macbook pros still aren’t capable of 4k 120hz over their hdmi port.
Any luck getting 4k@120hz via the MacBook in the end? This is a deal breaker for me.
Ahh a review from a familiar name. I remember you from when you used to show off Android backgrounds 😄
If they come out with that glossy version they've been teasing, I will ditch my LG 27GN950 for this monitor in a heartbeat.
Can't find info anywhere if the Eve Spectrum could output audio via USB or not. Have you tested this?
Today I received the Spectrum monitor and connected it to my Mac M1. However, I encountered an issue where the screen turns purple instead of displaying anything, unlike on Windows where everything works fine. I even tried it on an Intel Mac, but the problem persisted. Have you experienced a similar issue? If so, have you found any solutions? Thanks!
I was able to get 144hz on my macbook air by updating the monitor firmware.
Hey ! 😁 the frame of the monitor is also steel or plastic ?
Cleanest Tech review of all times
I think you have to apple orignal cable for 4k ,144hz to access or have a latest update of os , or search for setting ...
Kinda weird but could you link the wallpaper? Been looking for it and can’t find it.
What’s the watt of the usb-c charging of the MacBook Pro? I’m currently using a usb-c compatible Philips monitor, but the charging is limited to 60W, so when I’m pushing my 16 inch to peak performance (while rendering for example) it can’t withstand the power consumption.
Great video (as always) Oliur! ✨
100W. I do say it in the video 😅
Oliur, when do we get the Apex stream?
Would love to see one.
Ordered in September, expected in October, have been told it’s now on British shores, but no update on the shipping information yet. Responses from Eve’s Customer Service have helped update fairly quickly but still waiting :(
With the single USB hub, could I have two Macbooks docked to a monitor like this (as in a work computer and personal computer) and easily switch inputs without needing to connect/disconnect my apple wireless keyboard and mouse between devices? Maybe have one plugged into the primary USB-C port and another in the USB-C on the hub?
I'm wondering if my apple wireless mouse and keyboard are connected to both devices simultaneously, and control the proper macbook depending on which input is selected?
I'm waiting the EVE Spectrum QHD 240HZ...since 2 or 3 years now. Shipping is estimated to January...we'il see. In the past I needed this screen to work on my Macbook Pro 15 (now new 14) connected on USB-C > USB-C DP-alt 100W, and to game on my PC connected on DP. I finally bought an MSI Optix MAG274QRF-QD which fulfills its functions perfectly (work on mac and play PC is perfect without any compromise). I'm very unhappy when you can't use more than 60HZ on your Macbook Pro 14 at 7:31. Why ? Is this problem related to the 4K resolution too large ? Will their QHD (1440p) go above 60Hz ? Have you tried to use a great quality cable USB-C Thunderbolt 3 or 4 ? Was this problem solved ?
If I could not use more than 60HZ on Macbook Pro...I will never buy this screen :(
Thx
That behavior after switching inputs is the same with all monitors I ever owned.
So sounds normal to me...
Yeah same to me, it’s what I’d expect and actually want bc I want everything to remain on the way it is in the background for when I switch inputs. I usually just run downloads like this
I’ve been having an issue with my screen flickering when I’m playing on my series X. Do you think it’s my HDMI cable or the monitor?
Can I know which case are you using? It looks small (which I like) that actually fits a full gpu
Would you recommend this monitor or the odessy G7A 4k 120fps
Is the aux port on the monitor a output for HDMI audio?
Does this display support 120hz at 4k?
Does wake from sleep work okay when the macbook is in clamshell mode?
So the catch was the delivery . Am I right or not ?
If you connect your mouse and keyboard to the monitor, does your mouse and keyboard follow to your pc or Mac when you change output source?
Yes!
I reserved the 2k 280hz back in 2021, paid in full in 2022 and now i canceled my order. Been almost two months and still no refund.
Ordered mine the same day! Still waiting mine to even ship…
Still waiting on my monitor. I preordered it in October of 2020.
@@ejsalazar I paid the $100 preorder in October 2020, paid the remaining amount in May of 2021. But I requested a full refund in December of 2021 and miraculously received a full refund 15 days later.
How’s the HDR on it. I have the LG 27GP950. It’s actually closely compared to this monitor.
Is it not the same panel?
the shipment delay of your monitor is sad,but the product is great right??
PS5 looks great with the dark faceplates. Have you got a product link?
I don't think ones like these are available anymore. But Sony now also launched some plates, don't know if a black one us there.
Dbrand used to make them but now they look different but they're still making the different looking ones.
Just as you said I have problem with waiting as long as waiting time is more or less what I was promised, but this company keeps using strategy that's called "fake it until you make it".
Is there an alternative monitor with the same port accessibility in terms of one cable usb-c to mac connection and ability to connect a ps5 or xbox?
It’s really a shame that there’s no way to hide the cables coming down, that’s gonna ruin the minimal aesthetic no matter how you look at it
you can use a usb c to dp 1.4 cable with dsc you can get 4k 144hz
Whether the display is matt or glossy ?
You have to update the firmware on a PC to get 144Hz to work on the Mac. This sucks as you need access to a PC, but it is what it is.
Is this video filmed at 24 or 30 fps?
Try a hdmi 2.1 adapter for 4k144 on the macbook
What's the word on daisy chaining two of these from a single USB-C cable out of a MBP? Can it be done without a separate hub?
That can’t be done with this monitor. You will need a hub.
whats the name of your wooden shelf on the left?
I ordered in May had an expected shipping of october and then in Dec they said they cant find my monitor and im still waiting. said maybe in Jan -_-
What other monitors would you recommend around that price for productivity like coding n video editing
Hey there, I’ve been looking too for a similar monitor. I would recommend the LG Ultragear 27GP950 - I’ve compared specs between that and the Eve spectrum and I think the LG pulls ahead because of its colour accuracy and 135% of the sRGB colour space. And it also looks really good, but hard to find though!
How possibly is a Windows menu in the monitor when you connect a MacBook?
How’s this monitor vs the Odyssey G7..?
Is it also good for video editing, coding, and productivity work besides gaming?(if you don’t plan on playing games at all)
I have the LG version of this monitor and the answer is absolutely. Text and UI elements look great on a 4K display and the high refresh rate makes even simple tasks like video editing and flying around Figma feel so much quicker.
Did you order express or standard shipping?
I’ve seen your video, the review was excellent! I order mine on March of this year and i have been waiting since then, is that’s okay or they take my money and run? Jajajajaja
I replaced my $2k USD Acer Predator X27 4k 144Hz 1000nits GSYNC HDR Ultimate monitor with the Eve Spectrum 4k and have no regrets! I'm so happy I was patient and didn't get the LG Ultra Gear GN950 or the other major brands. The design & build quality is excellent and the monitor screen itself is superb! My only regret is now they are coming with a glossy version of this monitor soon and I would want that even more! Fck it.. I'll get that one too! YOLO! 😂 The only downside for me also with this monitor is the wait but I didn't mind it as much when I finally got it 'coz of how awesome it is! 👍
lolwut
Why would you do that? The Eve Spectrum is literally a worse monitor than the X27, not to mention they're not actually coming out with a glossy version. That was just a sample model given to Dave2D.
@@VaydaladaVodalada I have the X27 for more than 3 years now and the only thing it beats the Eve Spectrum 4k is on HDR. Everything else it looses and it runs hot plus the fan can be annoyingly loud.
@@xellaz It has basically all of the exact same specs, but actual HDR. That's a huge part of image quality, compared to the Eve Spectrum with the same specs but worse HDR, and less USB ports on top of that. I'm typing from my X27, so I can't imagine any reason to go to the ES unless you're a MacBook/Mac Mini user.
Strange stuff on the fan, must be unlucky.
Does anyone know if it is compatible with a 2019 Intel Macbook Pro 16 inch? Seems like everyone is using Apple silicon machines with it and I wasn’t sure if it would work with an Intel machine?
Its not a 10-bit panel. Its a 8bit +AFRC. So like any standard panel for its price point.
What’s the aspect ratio of the monitor?
Ummm this is really late but you can get 144hz with a firmware update but you will need a windows device for updating it
I am seeing I need a display port to usb-c for MacBook Pro at 144hz. Can I use a usb-c data with charging to get that?
