I like how in this, the protagonist is actually scared. The anime missed this point but the game got it perfect. He was full of doubt and put his faith into having a persona.
Yeah, the hesitation is what makes this scene- what makes Persona 3, really. Unconsciously, using an evoker is the exact same as putting a gun to your head. To see even somebody as apathetic (at first) as Makoto hesitate before firing tells us this much.
Muhammad Ilham 5 was too similar to 3 and 4 for me. I feel it's better if it's your first or second but if you've been playing the series for a while it's pretty tired and uninteresting
Two things I want to say. 1, I've played Persona 4 first and I just playing Persona 3 Portable (Since I don't have a freaking PS2 or 3 and can't get it for 4) and so far I'm liking it. Persona 3 is definitely darker, but Persona 4 brings out more mystery's and plot twist that makes you want to know what happens next. I haven't played P3 enough yet to make a strong point yet, but I doubt I will be disappointed. 2. What is up with your profile picture?
Jason Leaf persona 5 is as dark as persona 3 was. Excluding whole phantom thief thing and ending with beliving and satan-ish mech. It was more like ending to anime 10-years (like shaman king or pokemon). But the rest of p5 is dark
(Before watching) "Persona four was awesome, I wonder what the third one was like..." (1:36 and after) "W-What the-! He's gonna actually do it? That's how they get their persona's? That's fucking suicide and-OH MY GOD HE DID IT, WHAT THE HELL! Oh hey, that persona looks alright"
the creator had it done like that because he wanted it to resemble the acceptance of death, the MC did it without hesitation because he didn't think death was that scary
Even though they have released the import DVDs of the Japanese dubs of the first two(?) for us Americans, I still have hope that Aniplex will dub it in English. Or maybe we'll get the English dub for P4: The Golden Animation first?
Orpheus: Thou art I and I am thou.. *Thanatos breaking out off Orpheus* Thanatos: Wild card, bitches >:D *Shred the shadows and returning back to Orpheus* Orpheus: o___o wtf was that?

I hate that I never could end this game. My drive died and cant read anymore discs :( I love this. The heros face is really the best, like its the most normal thing to pull the trigger on oneself.

It’s interesting how the criteria to awaken changes in each game. Persona 4 requires self acceptance. Persona 5 requires the ability to stand up for yourself and withstand pain. Persona 3 requires faith. A whole lot of faith. Not many people who value their life are going to put something that looks like a gun to their head and pull the trigger. But then again, that’s the point of Persona 3. Valuing the future of humanity over your own life. Besides, *Memento Mori.*
It's true. P3's ending blows P4's completely out of the water. All in all, P3's story is much darker, and much more depressing, but all the more beautiful. Honestly, that ending blew my mind. When the credits rolled I was left in tears. P4's is just too random. "O BTW everything you've known is just a LIE and i'm some god who f'cks with everything for fun"
A Japanese RPG by the name 'Persona 3', or 'Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3'. It's a very good game with a dedicated fan-base. Give it a try, or watch a playthrough. I hope you like it.
For anyone wondering in Persona 3, the operatives who can summon Persona’s were given guns called Evokers, the way to summon Personas in Persona 3 is basically succumbing to the idea of suicide and death. Evokers don’t have any live rounds in it but it makes a loud noise similar to that of a gun going off.

his smile its sooo uhhaa cool as if he really enjoy it to call his persona -^^- I really love this game it`s one of those games were u get this creepy feeling
@mokunakoi I like how you're wrong. She was new to it too and not used to summoning her Persona yet. As far as the kid's concerned, his power was explained. He's a wild card.
becuase as he was summoning his persona he had a shit in his own , a theme of the main character in these games is he takes on the roles, but becuase of his histroy his mental set is so delicate that him having a happy thought about killing one of thoughs forced out Thanatos instead of orpheous. but since orpheous was on the field already the persona had to come from with in, in a totally epic way
@Tobuji830 Well, do note that the MC flashbacks to Yukari pointing the evoker at herself when he picks it up. Also there's the fact that just believing yourself to be in lethal danger can awaken a Persona, independent of the Evoker (see: Mitsuru's initial awakening). It's also possible there's some instinctive knowledge at play here
It's wierd how they all came to the conclusion that the MC could switch personas after this, but they never really asked about Thanatos again afterwards.
Well...yes...staying true to the majority of the Megaten games and spin-offs, the main character is usually voice-less (or has very very few voiced parts) and mostly nameless (they could have an official name like Serph in DDS or could be named for another media release like anime or manga). The player is usually given the choice as to what the protagonist says and does.
@SpeedBeethoven Apparently in P3 to summon a persona, they needed to go through a mass amount of trauma. As Yukari shows, putting a gun to your head is pretty truamatizing.
Some interesting Symbolism here that I noticed with the Summoning of Orpheus and the violent appearance of Thanatos. In Greek mythology, Orpheus met his end by being torn to pieces by ravening female followers of Dionysus called the Maenads. It is said that all that remained of him was his Lyre and his still singing head. (note that the last piece of the persona Orpheus is his head)
One time, I made up a game called "Videos that make you say WTF?" The whole point is to find wacked out videos and show them to other people. I always lead with this one.
@xXMitsukixNekoXx They cut the scenes like this, as well as "walking travel" for the sake of UMD space. PsP discs have limited space, and they were already cramming basically two games onto one disc. There was really no room for the scenes.
I think the evokers is only there to trigger a state of mind. In my opinion I think there real purpose is just for conditioning, setting the user into a particular state of mind necessary to summon the persona. As it it possible to summon them without the evoker.

Suddenly Orpheus goes full EVA on them.
To be fair...
This was THE moment when I asked myself what did I get myself into? And I never wanted to leave!!
You have to ask WTF when not even 1 fight into the game the main character turns the gun on himself... And that makes Persona so great

Yea this is way darker than Persona 4. Lol Persona 4 is more like a Disney game to this but they are both masterpieces.

Thanatos is personally one of my favorite Personas ever. I love the design and the coffins it holds around it's back.
Yuri Lowenthal does a great job in all his roles XDD This is very reminiscent of his role as Serph in Digital Devil Saga when the Atma first awakened.
I'm confused theres only 4 persona3 movies and they were they never dubbed right? So how does this exist

The best Persona awakening scene in the series imo.
They don't evokers are not real guns, it's meant to psychologicaly simulate the point of death which is when persona's are known to manifest.
Hands down the best transformation
Very very Evangelion. That show had such an impact on other artists, the editing in this scene is so on point.

They said this somewhere in the game, but the evoker looking like a gun was to stimulate the feelings of fear, which were needed to summon a persona.
