With further tinkering, I managed to use it with steam on my laptop without the adapter 2.... 1 go to the controller settings. 2 uncheck all the console controllers like xbox ps4 wii pro. 3 Now go to the bottom and select generic controller and connect controller to bluetooth. 4 redifine controls. 5 you now can use it with steam.
If you hold down both triggers and hit star it changes the analog triggers to to digital mode also you can get it with the usb adapter to use it with pc too
I am actually plaining on revisiting this controller now that I am doing mobile controller reviews. It still sucks that this controller doesn't support X-input and relies on third party software.
I guess what bothers me is that they went back to the design that didn't have a replaceable battery. Granted, I know the Pro +'s form factor doesn't exactly work well with the mobile use case where you want something as small and pocketable as possible. However, since they were modifiying the design anyway if they had included the option of the battery pack it would have seperated it from the regular SN30 and acted as an alternative to the + / +2 for people who prefer the SNES form factor.
I honestly wish this thing was able to pair to all devices like the other model you showed. I actually have no idea why it was made this way. I wanted to get it to use with my steam deck when on the go. (It mounts to the back of a car seat for long trips) Taking a whole xbox controller is too much but this thing would have been perfect.
So the steam OS will allow you to map the button on this controller to use with all game so you can use it with your steamdeck. The one thing I notice is that the triggers act as buttons rather than analog triggers which is a bummer.
My brother got a xbox series S. He's been a Playstation player for awhile to the point that he can't stand any controller besides how the PS works. He bought this controller because this Xbox controller is similar to the PS one and it wasn't too expensive. But sadly we found out it wasn't Xbox console compatible so he's back to the normal Xbox one controller which he can't get used to.
Sounds like your brother needs the 8bitdo pro 2 wired controller for xbox. 8BitDo Pro 2 Wired Controller for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One & Windows 10 www.amazon.com/dp/B07P5K93ZN/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_5HJPHKKJ1HKBDR26AE4S
I would use the pro 2 wireless. Cuz you can use it wired with usbc cable and it has 4 different modes and I actually use myn wired with my ps3. I personally haven't tried ps4 but haven't come across anything it doesn't work on.
That’s cool! Do you by any chance have an xbox? I know this controller only got Bluetooth so it can’t connect to Xbox consoles but I wonder what would happen if you would plug it in an xbox
@@PhoenixMoore oh okay. Don’t worry, take your time. I’m glad I finally found someone who owns this little controller and is willing to test this for me. Thank you in that regard 🙌
Well in your final thoughts it's a 4/10 But to me it's a 1/10, here's why. Pros: 1.Works well on pc (at least in my laptop it does) 2.you don't always need a 8bitdo bluetooth adapter to pair it (at least it works for me) 3.it can still work with any emulator you may use on pc (I have no problem with pcsx2) Cons: 1.you can't update the firmware for this controller 2.you can't pair it in 4 firmware controller sets like sn30pro and nes30pro 3.its useless since they designed it too simple for the xbox and the button mapping for it is troubling. So frankly it's a 1/10 otherwise.
@@tyfp3854 you make some interesting points. The reason I recommend the adapter is because it will allow the controller to be seen as an x-input device. I did paired to my desktop by Bluetooth and manage to get it somewhat working but I cut that part out the video because I think it's to complicated to explain to people. Most people just want a controller to work strat out the box. Also it's I was able to update the firmware of my controller using the 8bitdo firmware program on my computer so I'm not sure how you cannot update your controller firmware. As far as using the controller. I grew up with a super nintendo so the controller felt natural to me. Maybe because I use to play a lot of super nintendo but that's just me.
Natural huh? Well I don't have to worry about that I wasn't into SNES or any Nintendo product. I became happy with the dreamcast so my hands became universal like clay. You may have been able to get it right on firmware cause you might have the right USB-c or something... irhni of course how did you do it?
This video is pretty dumb 😆. I like the controller because I can put it in my pocket, and use it with my phone, or tablet. Which is probably what most people use it for. A travel controller.
Interesting that you think its dumb to compare the SN30 Xbox edition that only works on android to the standard SN30 controller that works on android, IOS, Nintendo Switch, and PC when both controllers are the same price. Also, difference of opinions is okay, but calling my video dumb is a bit much.
now this is it the one it does look like xbox style nice one 8bitdo in the thumbnail.

Under detected controllers youll see the 8bitdo SN30 name and click on it. Now you can difine layout buttons.
If you hold down both triggers and hit star it changes the analog triggers to to digital mode also you can get it with the usb adapter to use it with pc too
Now it works on anything - so it's the best option to put it in a backpack in 2024.
I am actually plaining on revisiting this controller now that I am doing mobile controller reviews. It still sucks that this controller doesn't support X-input and relies on third party software.
Thanks for pointing that out. I wanted to use this primarily on PC and Steamdeck so this controller is actually quite useless for me.
I heard if you purchase the 8bitdo dongle it works on PC and Switch then.

Good review. :>
Just scored 1 from my pawn shop - $20 😊 but am hoping it'll connect (easy enough anyways) to my nes snes mini & also other systems.

I find it hard to believe it onlt works for gamepass does it work with android emulation roms ? Did you test it
It does work with emulation
Well it works on the ios now so pretty cool if you still got one

All of the xbox edition come with the phone clip
is there any turbo button? please reply ASAP
Have you tried the sn30 xbox clip on the regular sn30 pro, does it work?
Yes and it works
Works for iOS now!

will it work with iOS?
Sadly no, but the original SN30 does
it works with ios 16, purchased yesterday & works on ipad & iphone
I bought this for iPhone and works like a charm
Can u use it on valve steam deck
I just want the clip 😅
