What's funny is that when I first saw that style of whisk wiper advertised on Facebook, I thought "oh, that's pretty smart." Seeing it actually in use compared to the alternative of just handwashing it, you suddenly realize whisks aren't that hard to clean.

I agree and I liked when Mike mentioned it. However, Barry getting to the price guessing, it kinda hit me that there's better individual gadgets and this is just a normal electric can-opener (Jamie mentioning lefties for one), a grippy thing, and a opener multi-tool. You'd probably just get those individually so you could get a more helpful/assisting/accommodating can-opener.
I also kinda expect a playful joke at Barry, cause the whole "pick for thing," but idk. :d
(Still better than the whisk wipe though... I was expecting more like whipped cream or something, but that's more a shoddy uni-tasker idea.)

    • @Sturmlied

This is so true that's why I would put the opener as my favorite. Even though I would prefer the taco press, but that is not really a gadget as my Mexican gf once told me. It is a kitchen essential. The other two are both rubbish with the churro maker taking the end of the stick by faaarrr.

I like that those tools exist and that some poeple are talking about them.
Nobody in my Family is disabled in any way, so those tools are usually utterly useless and we'd NEVER get them. Like this can opener - takes a lot of space, while my Can opener fits comfortably in some drawer.
But again, we are not disabled. That machine for example would be great if you had only one arm, or if you can't hold stuff steady or whatever. Having tools that are usuable for disabled people is really fantastic.

Spaniard here! Fun-fact: the big round "churro" is called "porra". They are thicker and fluffier than churros which are shorter, thinner and crispier. The churros are cut as the dough falls into the oil. The porras are cut after they are cooked (The two of them are always fried. Never baked). Also, we don't dip them in chocolate sauce. It actually is the normal drinking hot chocolate in Spain. We just dip the churros and porras in it. Our hot choc is just so thick and rich that you can actually just eat it with a spoon :P

With easy 1 person meals, no fancy equipment/ingredients that students aren't likely to have, meals that can be kept in the fridge and reheated easily the next couple of days, meals that don't need you to take over the entire shared kitchen to prepare, etc.?

      @QuestorWI 2 роки тому

The pack app looks and sounds great but I must agree that would be nice to have some settings added for just cooking for one and also some settings for people like myself who have type 2 diabetes and I have controlled it successfully for over 20 years with a diet of 65 grams of carbohydrates per meal and also for people like myself who are on blood thinners and we really have to watch our vitamin K intake ie green leafy vegetables, cabbage, broccoli etc. or eat it on a consistent basis like every main meal of the day everyday. And to start doing something like that would mean in my case several trips every month to my doctor to have my INR checked. And unfortunately in the United States we don't have a National Health Service and so our insurance companies dictate how many times a month we can have certain things done test wise. I'm semi-ambidextrous (right handed for simple rough control that needs a bit of power, left for stamina and agile control) so depending on what it is I can use wither hand. I found this channel a while back and subscribed. And like with all channels, once they get repetitive I unsub... but not with this one. I could watch every single video on loop mode and never get tired. The quality of the production is outstanding, the content is on par but the best thing about the channel is their friendship. There's no weak link here, all 5 of them bring their own flavour to the table and you miss anyone of them when they are not in the video. It's an absolute joy to see them. I fear that maybe one day a TV channel might persuade them to go to their platform and leave youtube. I wish them the very best and hope that they never stop doing these videos because I would really miss them. Thank you very much for the good times!

Fun hack if you dont have a tortilla press, or if you dont want to store it. Cut a big freezer ziploc on two sides so you can easily open it and put the tortilla ball inside. Reusable for ages. Then use the largest pot or pan you have and evenly apply pressure. Works pretty well for me. And I end up with a brand from the bottom of the pan in the center of my tortillas, so they are super unique.

OMG I dont know if I am embarrassed or have the best hack for the tortilla press. Living in a country where they are hard to get hold of or very expensive if you do find one this is what I do:
    -chopping board on floor
-piece of baking paper on chopping board
-place dough on paper and press lightly
-next piece of baking paper on top
-solid chopping board on that, gently pressed down
-Then use my foot to further press the the chopping board down and hey presto a nice thin tortilla

It's so weird for me to see you use a "tortilla presser" as a strange gadget and for everyone else here in Mexico is like a must have. For corn tortillas is necessary, flour ones you can do it by hand but yeah, nice to see how different is for you

the starfrit top lifting can openers are good for lefties. I got into a literal fight with my roommates at one time because one left off camping took my can opener and then said "what's the big deal?- there is still one in the drawers" and I had to explain it was not left handed and he argued there was no such thing as a right or left handed can opener. When he got back I made him do it left handed with both can openers only for him to end with an 'oh' (in retrospect I understand his logic in taking mine because the type I had doesn't leave sharp edges so for camping and needing to carry back your can's to dispose of them properly its safer)

For reference I spent a month in Manchester, UK and you can't get cilantro, black beans, jalapenos, salsa, or tortillas, they don't have any other hot pepper seasonings, just plain red chili, making anything resembling a decent burrito or any other real Mexican food is impossible. I didn't even see Avocados... Longest month of my life and I begged to stop at Chipotle on my way home from the airport...
Manchester has excellent Indian takeaway food at night, terrible pizza that doesn't deliver, and not enough ingredients to make anything in Mexican or Native American food...
Can't get pinto beans, found one packet of two ounces of hard dried black beans for an exorbitant price.. Didn't buy them, had literally nothing else to go with them... And we'd have needed ten or twelve packets of those to make a decent meal for four in burritos.
Oh and when lost and asking for directions in the UK, when someone yells slang in a thick accent you don't understand followed by the word luv, say... I'm sorry I speak American and the only word I caught was luv... And they'll slow down and tell you in common English words. 😊❤

Just have to comment and THANK YOU, for mentioning that things could be useful for various disabilities. It means SO MUCH to hear disabilities referenced in such a normal way. So often, disabilities are talked about or mentioned--if at all--in such weird and painfully ableist ways. You've always managed to avoid the offensive tropes. Not sure if you have any friends/loved ones with disabilities, but your genuine kindness and that you think of these things and have awareness, does NOT go unnoticed or unappreciated! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Here's my take.
Whisk wiper - Totally pointless. As Ben excellently demonstrated a quick dip in the sink does a better job. In all circumstances.
Can opener multi tool - For the physically impaired, perhaps useful. But for everyone else? It's just too big. Get a can opener (which usually has a bottle opener on it anyway) and then just use a damp cloth to get purchase on jars if you're really struggling.
The churro maker - For me a single use electronic gadget has to be used every day for it to be worth the room it takes up.
Tortilla maker - Easily the best item here, but similar to the churro maker, if it only has one use and isn't going to be used regularly, then it's not worth the space it takes up.
    Just my opinion however. =)
