In my head canon, this episode was James's final straw. They asked him to review the beans on toast maker and he quit to avoid subjecting himself to the stupidity. XD
Barry wondering about why Ben needs a manual for a toaster. Well… he probably forgot about that one time when Ben basically burned the toast beyond belief. 🔥🔥🔥
As the son of two aging parents, without question, the electric jar opener is something I am most intrigued about, and will likely end up buying for my parents sooner than later.
My dad had a stroke so we are always hunting for one handed items. Electric pepper grinder was one amazing gift we found him. Rocking knife as well (would work well for those with arthritis in their hands.)
I've had one of these for years. I can't count how many times it's saved me from having to change eating plans. Even jars that are already open are difficult for me, or worse yet - the dreaded sticky rim essentially gluing the lid on. None have been a problem for that opener. I have a different brand but I imagine they're all fairly equal. I cannot recommend these things enough.
I was actually holding my breath along with the guys watching the lid opener working!! And lost it when Mike asked, "Do you find if hard to get thru doors?"
Ben's hopeful face as he lowers himself behind the counter as he goes "COME ON BASILICO" is giving me life LOL. Real talk though, I work with elderly folk and that gadget seems really useful for them, also thinking of amputees and things like general weak joints and arthritis, and isn't marked up too high! Great gadget. As for the pizza oven, there's one my best friend has called pizzarette? That makes slightly larger pizzas and you can put about 4 on at the same time, it's great fun!
Had this talk recently with a friend. There's a lot of objects out there that kind of get laughed at and marketed as "are you too lazy to pull your socks on?" kind of gadgets. But those items are really, really important for people that have physical limitations. Because those people are probably not enough to make manufacturing the product profitable, the companies have to do those kind of "are you too lazy" marketing schemes to sell enough.
I actually really love to see the guys trying use some of these accessibility aid gadgets in the way that they are intended - what I mean by that is, for example with jar opener, see if they could make that same antipasti dish but without the use of their hands. Pre cut bread, mouth for using forks or other tools-- show why these tools are important for people who would need them
I really do like the fact that you guys do throw in gadgets that look at helping people with dexterity ect issues to make Experian even better when cooking, always including as many people as possible
It's always really nice to see someone review a gadget and understand that it's market is more for people with mobility/dexterity issues and not just say "Who needs this? Just open the f***king lid" I get very tired of having mobility problems get completely glazed over by people who don't struggle with them.
"what if you don't have a hob" I would rather spend the, what, $20-30 for a single-burner portable electric stove? Than $28.95 for a toaster with a bean compartment.
@@oxnyxws I live in a college town and my first thought was that would be perfect for kids in the dorms. There's usually a communal microwave on each floor but what if you just want some simple eggs and toast and don't want to put on pants to go to the dining hall?

@@tiacho2893 Honestly.. I mainly want to see the chaos.. But, I get if they dont respond to my comment or even implement it. Its a large undertaking and likely not something they'd like to try their hands at since it could go wrong. But still. I figured I'd try suggesting it ^^
@@rasmusazu I used to cook for a living and remember being handed a 20 kg bag of onions and told how many prep pans of each dice size and slice thickness to do. And how you HAD to manage your time. But the lads have done the food stand thing and opened that pop up in Japan. So don't write off your suggestion just yet. @@tiacho2893 Thats why I recommended it for Pass It On. They wouldnt have any idea whats going on. But, again. I doubt they'll do it. Too big of a chance it goes wrong. The lads dislike food waste.
Not all recipes scale well, too -- have to keep in mind that seasoning won't scale perfectly and you may have to use an oven rather than a pan for bulk meat and veg
That pizza oven is so useless! You have to wait 15 mins to get an appetiser-sized pizza. You'd be faster in a toaster oven and you can do bigger ones than that.
@@SortedFood But it's like the perfect size for him. Small pizzas for small hands, right? Though considering that it is dealing with fire and we know how Baz is with something simple like a hob, maybe better he does give it a miss.
You could use the food saver to make meals ahead, but it also seems it'd be great for prep. Spend Sunday afternoon prepping your ingredients for the meals that you'll be making through the week. When the day comes to make a specific meal, get out your chopped, mixed, etc ingredients and make your meal. Save a TON of time on the evening itself doing prep and cleanup, but you have the freshest pre-prepped ingredients you can have and you have a fresh meal.
That's a good point. I honestly HATE prep and it prevents me from cooking most nights. But if I could just spent extra time prepping one night and have food prepped for the week, I would have a much better time for the bulk of the week.

I just looked it up on their website and the one here seems to be an old model, just so you know. Also, according to an Amazon review/question, the Tupperware currently for sale on their website doesn't work with this model. Just a heads up.
I'll be honest, jar opener is a game changer. I always end up having to pick my lids with a massive knife - which screws them up, and then i can't reuse them. Update: you all had such lovely and useful tips! Thank you! But the amount of hacks to open just one jar make me think that it really shouldn't be as difficult 😅
Alternatively, rubber gloves (for dishwashing) can help grip lids if the oils on your skin make it hard to get the power you need. I've started using them instead of knives.
Similar to to the JarPop idea but more multi-functional, I have loved the Gefu Multi-Function Bottle Opener. It's got five different opening tools in one, and the jar popper works wonders.

Watching super-smart Ben learn how to open jars is so adorable. And now that I think about it, I probably often start trying to open jars with my right hand (going the correct direction) and then switch to my left hand if it doesn't open right away (without ever consciously thinking that way gives you more leverage in that direction, but just feeling like it's easier).

hate easy bake ovens.... takes 72 hours for a 15 watt lightbulb to slightly warm half a tin of beans.... sigh
That's why I want one! 😅🤣😅
In my head canon, this episode was James's final straw. They asked him to review the beans on toast maker and he quit to avoid subjecting himself to the stupidity. XD
Xdddd
Mike was in full troll mode this episode. Full troll.
The utter glee when he saw how annoyed Ben was by his gadgets. Devilish.
Barry wondering about why Ben needs a manual for a toaster. Well… he probably forgot about that one time when Ben basically burned the toast beyond belief. 🔥🔥🔥
😂 oh yeah.
Yup, a chef who can’t make a cup of tea and can’t make toast.
As the son of two aging parents, without question, the electric jar opener is something I am most intrigued about, and will likely end up buying for my parents sooner than later.
gamechanger, honestly
i actually just asked my mother if she wants one exactly because of this video
christmas stuffer ideas all year long from sorted ^_^ i really love their gadget reviews
As a fellow lefty, I feel Ben's pain!
The jar opener is definitely something that is an accessibility aid that they're trying to market generally...
Pre cut bread, mouth for using forks or other tools-- show why these tools are important for people who would need them
@@kenzierabbit4374 Could even just be a "one armed tied behind your back" challenge.
@@GeoFitz4 ooh yeah! And they get a pick of the gadgets to help.
Or, maybe they can make sacrifices for greater food budget?
I agree however I have seen rental agreements that specifically forbid burners/elements but allow for toasters/microwaves.
@@oxnyxws I live in a college town and my first thought was that would be perfect for kids in the dorms. There's usually a communal microwave on each floor but what if you just want some simple eggs and toast and don't want to put on pants to go to the dining hall?
Right? And also you can cook beans in the microwave, so it doesn’t matter if you have no hob!
@@oxnyxws That's common in university dorms and rentals. No cooktops.
16:46 So Ben isn't weak after all... He just didn't know 'righty tighty, lefty loosey' 😆
Honestly, I'd like Sorted to one day do "Bulk serving, pass it on". They have to create enough food for the entire team whilst also doing it in a pass it on format.
Yeah, anyone can chop a couple onions in short time. But doing a kilo of onions is short time is the sign of someone that cooks a lot.
That is the big reason for the chaos in "Pass It On". Only something like toasting pine nuts really need ALL your attention because they burn in seconds and your boss yells at you for wasting expensive ingredients.
But the lads have done the food stand thing and opened that pop up in Japan. So don't write off your suggestion just yet. It would take some planning and they could do it like larger restaurants have a rotating staff meal. I think they probably do that with the short shelf life pantry stuff in each "Pass It On" (after the doing the beauty shots and B roll) but don't film it.
Mike: “I have the perfect way to get you out of bed.”
Not me thinking about a bed that launches someone into the shower. 😂
Been watching Wallace and Gromit lately?
@@tiacho2893 THAT is so Wallace and Gromit!
@@tiacho2893 nope! Haha. But they’re great. And the carnage in Wallace & Gromit does have Sorted Pass It On vibes. 😂
I was thinking more Colin Furze who actually built a catapulting bed.
Hahaha... and then has your breakfast ready with a cup of tea.
I would love to see their appliance/gadget cupboard in the studio, just imagine how many they’ve collected over the years! 😂
"Oh, hey, another pizza oven that I can steal and not tell my friends." - Barry probably
We think he would rather give this one a miss 😂
They're just going to keep reviewing different ones until he runs out of room.
That pizza oven is so useless! You have to wait 15 mins to get an appetiser-sized pizza. You'd be faster in a toaster oven and you can do bigger ones than that.
@@Arcadia61 This device reminds me so much of the Easy Bake Oven. Interesting as an idea but something no one would ever want to use.
@@SortedFood But it's like the perfect size for him. Small pizzas for small hands, right? Though considering that it is dealing with fire and we know how Baz is with something simple like a hob, maybe better he does give it a miss.
that jar opener was so good I got jealous when I bought my mum with arthritis one and bought a second one for myself just for the ease and fun of it!
Now James has (sadly) gone, I feel like the normals are ganging up on Ebbers more than they did before.
it's just a challenge to get Ben as salty about a gadget as James did.
i worry for him 😞
it’s honestly about the same amount that they did in the old days before james lol
Is James permanently gone? last time I heard about it I had the impression that it was something temporary
@@fduisterwinkel James took a new job somewhere else that will allow him to grow his skills and learn new things (which is something he's wanted to do), but might come back occasionally as a guest.
this has fast become one of my favorite food gadget channels, because you guys dont just dismiss items as lazy. yo guys are really good at acknowledging when a tools for people with mobility issues, not just calling them lazy or useless like most people do. thank you for being aware not every has the abilities you do!
Me hearing about the Food Saver: “I need that!”
Me hearing the price: “Christmas wish list.” 😉
And yes… I think about Christmas in August. 😁
Got to get that list ready 😉
@@SortedFood yep! Especially since it needs to be checked twice! 😉
I just looked it up on their website and the one here seems to be an old model, just so you know. They are all more horizontal versions now with a corded version of the small one for sealing Tupperware.
Also, according to an Amazon review/question, the Tupperware currently for sale on their website doesn't work with this model. Just a heads up.
@@joshp8535 thanks for the heads up!
* Continues to add clear instructions to the wish list. *
For the plastic bags, you can just use a straw to suck out the air as you wait for Christmas.
Just get a JarPop or similar, it's the size of a spoon, $5 and requires no batteries.
You can also hit it on the rim of the jar. It misforms the lid, and lets in air, then it's easy to open, and it can still close.
I've always just put a rubber band around the lid and it always works
I bought one of these bottle openers. My husband has arthritis and I have carpal tunnel. We struggled to open bottles and jars...... not anymore!!!! Well worth getting!! Would 100% recomend to anyone who struggles. Love your demos.xxxxx
I'm disabled, I only have full use of one hand. That jar opener would be a life-saver for me!
‘Effortless, mesmerising, and fun to watch’ I really hope Ben can get out more soon 😂
I want to thank you guys and a very special thanks to the team behind the scenes for making these videos. I've been up since 8:00 am, yesterday. And I decided to make a bbq brisket for my family. So I have been awake babysitting a brisket since midnight and will have to continue babysitting until this evening, the things we do for amazing food. These videos helped me stay awake while looking after the brisket and will hopefully help me stay awake for the next 8ish hours.
Hope the brisket turns out just perfect 👌
Barry realizing the toast n bean is a bain-marie was glorious. xD
Surprised none of them called it a bean-marie tbh
I'm disappointed that, unless I missed it, nobody made a 'bean-marie' joke.
Or a bean-marie... I'll see myself out now
I adore how they always attempt to acknowledge any limitations that the gadget might address, like limited grip strength, but even I thought the not having a hob explanation was a bit of a stretch lol.
i remember some of their early gadget review videos featured gadgets meant for disabled people. i love how sorted actually listens to their audience and adjusts based on our feedback. ever since then, they've always done these videos with an eye towards accessibility.
You know they're invested in the jar opener when they all screamed "Yeeessssssss!!!" after the baby food jar was opened lmao 🤣 love to see that they boys were able to impress 2 of the 3 times~~~
Edit: spoke too soon cuz there are 4 gadgets!
Now I want to watch Ben play with an easy bake oven 😂
We've had a (different brand) version of the jar opener at home for years, and it's brilliant. Both my mother and I have arthritis that affects, among other things, or hands and thus makes opening jars a challenge. Having this gadget in the kitchen drawer makes it simple. Anyone with dexterity issues should absolutely get one.
I love how they always take into account the fact that some gadgets are for people that have trouble doing it on their own.
Love the meal packs, i'd love to see it evolve to a point where i can tell it what i have in the cupboard/fridge and it suggests meal ideas
Ooooh I second this idea; Id just love that
It’d be interesting to see if the vacuum packer could age foods such as meats in a more controlled manner. Possible follow up video on vacuum experimentation beyond preserving?
We have a Food Saver bar vacuum sealer and use it all the time! We buy primal cuts of meat and break it down. Also, the bags are perfect for sous vide.
The delayed look of slack-jawed amazement on Ben's face after the jar pops open in the blooper is PRICELESS.
We should definitely point out that Jamie's definition of "snacking pizza" may vary wildly to everyone elses, in terms of size.
yep that pizza thing interests me because I live on my own and i'd have one of them with salad for a meal and take one to work next day for lunch!
@@squidge125 I'm just wondering, are you a mouse? Although honestly speaking, I think those "mini-pizzas" to a mouse would be family size 😂
All pizza is snacking pizza.

Would live to see you guys tackle more traditional mexican dishes. Like mole and posole
Maybe get an actual mexican cook in there to guide them. Otherwise, they'll probably make the gringo versions of the dishes haha
Would love to see you guys do a tournament of the kitchen gadgets! It could be like the Olympics pitting each gadget by category? I'm sure Ben would love to use the Su-V gun as the Olympic torch 😂
ooo or like a tier rank. You know those tier rank videos these days.
March Madness in the USA
I love when an episode is 80% screwing with each other and 20% food stuff
My parents have the Toast/egg cooker toaster. They love it… Laughed so hard at the level of disdain extruding from Ben for the machine. 🤣🤣🤣
My son had one and the eggs were so badly cooked, he gave it away
My parents have one too. My dad makes poached eggs in it regularly. They turn out, so I'm sure he's figured it out from trial and error and is not following the directions.
@@cassieoz1702 sometimes these gadgets take a little practice and experience
@@PeachysMom if you have to hover over it to get your eggs cooked properly, you might as well do it in a pan with less expensive and more versatile equipment. Good grief, it doesn't even heat beans in accordance with its own instructions
I remember my grandparents having such issues with jars as they get older. I'll definitely keep an eye on that for my parents or MIL. Couldn't find that exact brand US Amazon but found a similar model and I've saved it.
The pizza is so disappointing.
This is one of my favourite series you guys do, so thank you so much for brightening up my day with some gadgets 🥰
The way the guys were so enthralled and impressed by a jar opener has made my morning 😂
There’s a dish in Vietnam called “bún chả Hà Nội” that would be a good test of cooking the same kind of meat (pork) 4 different ways: egg roll (chả giò), pork patty (chả/nem heo), pork belly, and grilled pork. 4 different ways, 4 different cook times. That’s not including the vermicelli noodles or the special fish sauce that goes with it

The pizza oven has me thinking about all sorts of little things you could cook in it, and i'm especially intrigued by some of the potential dessert ideas. Seeing as you have it now, i'd love to see you guys explore the kinds of recipes that work in a tiny little oven like that.
Oh it'd be fun for smores at the table.
Watching super-smart Ben learn how to open jars is so adorable. And now that I think about it, I probably often start trying to open jars with my right hand (going the correct direction) and then switch to my left hand if it doesn't open right away (without ever consciously thinking that way gives you more leverage in that direction, but just feeling like it's easier).
great content, the jar opener would have helped my mum & dad when they were alive, perhaps you could have an episode for easy recipes for senior citizens with less than perfect dexterity ?
Oh... My god... Ben.
You've been twisting lids to the *right* all these years??
Please tell me this is like, a chef thing.
Claire Saffitz can't understand the "lefty loosey, right tighty" thing, either.
The jar opener would be wonderfully helpful for someone with any grip difficulties. So many gadgets are created for people who need physical assistance, and by releasing the product to the wider general public, the cost of manufacturing can be offset.
"overcooked the egg"
what....thats like....perfect, what do you mean overcooked, do you eat your eggs raw?
if #1 was a smart device I could understand it more, like a bit before your alarm goes off it gets your breakfast ready! but as it stands its a bit silly.
Well, we figured out why Ben has never successfully opened a jar....now we need to look into Barry's issue LOL!
I bought this exact jar opener - just branded differently - for my arthritis ridden mom several years ago and she is constantly using it.
"Fresh frozen out of a can" xD
One great genius on Kitchen Nightmares once said this.
The "Do you want it or not?" rhymes are absolutely genius as well.
I got my food saver on big sale for about $50 US. It's one that can either use the bag rolls and heat seal them or the little port like this one. I'm very happy with it having owned it for a few years. I even got an attachment that lets me seal mason jars and I use those instead of the Tupperware style containers because one attachment can seal all the widemouth jars I own
I probably have the same sealer model you do, and I've never considered the jar sealer because I've seen a lot of complaints about them losing seal easily.
The sheer excitement they had while watching the jars open was delightful
I like the jar opener thing; my sister and I have a running joke with our mum and stepmum, neither of whom can manage jars very well, and we get them things that are meant to make it easier as stocking stuffers. It's a tempting one to get
That's this years stocking filler sorted!
