This is punctual? Only if you clicked on this because you wondered about somebody's thoughts leading up to getting the device this upload is supposed to show how to pair with alexa. Way too much blabbing.
Thanks -- really appreciated the info about changing the name of the bulbs to something more obscure and keeping common names for the rooms / zones. Much appreciated!
So the Philips bulbs if you're only setting one up with Alexa you only need Bluetooth I don't need any other device to set one bulb up.? This is all new to me
Yes that's pretty much correct. You can add Hue lights in Bluetooth mode via Alexa, and it will work for basic control - but you will have some limitations (long story, but the general features will work fine). It's the nice thing with the Bluetooth support - you can test out the Hue bulbs and if you like them, you can always upgrade to the full Hue Bridge later (as shown in this video). And you then get the full set of features. Good luck with your smart lighting journey 🙂
Hello Tristan, Hope you are fine. I have read your article about multiple hue hub bridges issues that I am now facing as I think I am about to reach the max lights/accessories on my hub. I have alexas all over the house as well as home assistant OS (to which my hub is connected) without cloud subscription. Could you please tell me what would be the best solution now for me, in order to be able to add hue lights. I know hue Can now have multiple hubs, and that home assistant Can centralise it also, but what about Alexa ? Can Alexa now handle lights from multiple Hue Hubs ? If not, is there a solution to bypass this limitation ? Will matter make things easier, and should I just wait for matter ? Thank you
Very helpful and I recommend. May I suggest you keep pace same throughout the presentation, that is, started as though talking to a beginner and evolved to talking to a pro. Hard to keep up with, especially when moving back and forth between Hue and Alexa. As in, say what?
Haha, thanks for the helpful comment and you're right that it's tricky to sometimes balance between the beginner and techy side of things. I appreciate the feedback though, it's a fair point 🙂👍
That's annoying. There's some useful tips here: www.amazonforum.com/s/question/0D54P00006zSumj/something-happened-and-im-unable-to-link-alexa-with-hue Basically the online alexa.amazon.com webpage might be useful (check out the skills and see whether the Hue Skill is there). Equally you can try unlinking and relinking your Hue Bridge via the labs.meethue.com/ website
Do you mean adding a new scene? If so, I agree that it's not the easiest to use (especially if you scan a photo and it then only chooses limited colors from that..) - that could be a good one to make a video on, thanks for the suggestion.
When I try to enable the Hue skill on Alexa app, I receive an error message "try again later". I tried to uninstall and install everything again, turned off and on the hub, reinstalled alexa app. Nothing, same issue! Do you know what could be?
Hmm that's an odd error. I haven't experienced that myself, but maybe this Reddit thread will help? www.reddit.com/r/Hue/comments/jro9k0/how_to_fix_linking_the_amazon_alexa_app_with_hue/?
@@SmartHomePoint thanks! At the end I solved this way (after trying 100 different combinations): 1. Uninstall Hue app 2. Install Hue skill on Alexa 3. Reinstall Hue app
Subscribed 😊 It seems I have almost the same setup as you have, but with Apple HomeKit instead of Alexa. I somehow luckily and unknowingly avoided your mistake and named my rooms differently than my lights (rooms: Bedroom, Living room, etc; lights: Big Lamp, Window Lamp, Office Lamp, etc). Since I almost always have either my Apple Watch or iPhone on me or near me, I can just say “Siri, turn Big Lamp on”, “Siri, lights in Office on” or “Siri, Lights off”, etc. I use my AppleTV as my HomeKit hub alongside the Hue hub. While I can do almost the entire automation within the HomeKit, I let Hue hub control some of the automation on its own or together with HomeKit. I find one complementing the other one quite well. Do you use spread your automation across both, Alexa and Hue hub or do you use just “one hub to rule them all”?
Many thanks 🙂 Yes it does sound a similar setup to mine apart from Alexa Vs HomeKit. I find using both Alexa and the Hue Hub works well, especially since you have some more advanced lighting options with the Hue app - such as the Hue Labs and 'Wake Up With Hue'. I generally create all my automation routines within Alexa though, even ones that purely manage my lights. This is so that they're all in one place if I need to edit them.
Very well done! Clear punctual explanation of how to set up the start of a smart home with Philips Hue and Amazon Alexa. Great Job!
Thanks very much, glad you found the video useful!

You're welcome, glad you found it helpful. Yes the naming thing is annoying but I can understand it from Alexa's perspective.

Every time I try to sign in, it says it’s unable to link with Alexa” so I can’t get passed this stage

Have you tried the “Scene” configuration ?. I just don’t get how it works hope you can make a video on that. Thank you

Lights are good lights, but are they worth it is always a question worth asking, lmao
You seem like a funny person
