  • as one of the oldest EDU channels on UA-cam, apparently with more than 50 million views now, this old UA-camr is trying to navigate the brave New World of TikTok/Instagram/UA-cam reels and shorter videos. So now I get to just sit on my couch and talk? #teacher #teaching

Absolutely do it. Don’t self censor Mr. Hughes. Ultimately most political disagreements right now are due to different media bubbles (the truth is tribal). I think we need to re-educate the public how the media works and break the bubbles.

The paradox is you have to sit outside the bubble to be able to see inside the bubble. Right now most are in the bubble so other than climbing in the bubble, which makes no sense and then providing a narrative. Am I supposed to throw rocks at the bubble or pebbles, or maybe little rubber duckies as a lecture from outside the bubble? there is no education and learning unless you have someone’s authentic attention, that’s the secret rub. I’m excellent being able to get that attention as a social studies teacher but as a head, you’re only gonna get the attention of those who agree with you now my head hurts. See? 😂 I wish it was easier 🤷‍♂️

Hi Keith, thanks for the thoughtful comments. I’m a teacher in Britain who made plentiful use of your lectures in my American politics lessons for years prior to 2019 when for school timetable reasons I got switched to Economics. I came back to US politics this year and was struck by how unwilling students were to debate. There appears to be one accepted point of view which none of them want to challenge. It might be one year but it does feel like something has changed. So it’s not just you and please do keep putting your balanced content out there - it is invaluable. Thanks for your work.

I really really wish you would make a ton more videos. I learned so much from you and fixed directions on where to find more information as well as exercise critical thought. thought without application is waste

I would be interested in hearing your perspective. If yours is similar or different from mine it doesn't matter. I enjoy learning.

You're correct people aren't listening unless you are telling them what they want to hear. It's written plain as day but there's just too much legacy and heritage at stake for some people to listen in order to learn. Follow your first instinct.
However can you cover the ERA ( Equal Rights Amendment)? There was a recent ruling in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court in regards to healthcare.

Maybe I'm too broad a mind when I say, I think there are things about the people in this Republic that we have in common beyond the things all humans do (and some non-human mammals). We breathe air, drink water (but not exclusively that). We seek stability in routine (unless that gets "boring", then we seek to go outside of that, perhaps cautiously, perhaps not). We seek stability in labor and in the financial system. We vote. We try to make sense of "the news" (which isn't all political, but the politics stuff is important, if often beyond individual control...and there is the rub). Those of us that view the news more, tend to vote more regularly (and if you don't, you really just vote down party line, unless you think an individual candidate is incompetent to hold office, or untrustworthy, or unstable as an individual), along our party lines. Maybe it started with environmentalism or gay rights for you, but one usually embraces the broader party platform (even for me, it takes time to deal with complex cultural issues like abortion, or complex cultural and historical issues like the black power or "brown power movement"...a lot of people call that the Latino Civil Rights movement.

Do it!! And while you're at it, how about explaining how the Isreal/Palestine started. There's a lot that people leave out of the discussion. Please and thank you.
