    I'm one of those guys with $1000.00's of dollars invested in my knives and still use a Spyderco Sharpmaker to maintain them. Now with all the M390, Maxamet, and M4, etc... I need something better. I pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered a Pro 1 kit. I can't wait for it to get here on Saturday! Thanks for an honest and interesting video!!!

    Also one thing to mention is periodically make sure your set screws for the rods are tight! Mine seem to loosen up and my angle moves up or down without noticing for a couple passes.

      Highly recommended. The price point puts a lot of people off but I would have saved a ton of money and many blades, if I had this in my arsenal earlier.

    Forget the sharpener...for a second. I kept admiring your table!!! Such a beautiful table color! Custom made? Is that what they call Beetle wood? And that American flag knife cabinet was 🔥 where can i get one man?

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Joshua, great attention to detail!
      The table is a simple butcher block that I got form Lowe's, stained it blue, coated with wax and affixed it to a plastic folding table. It was a cheaper alternative for something that is practical and still looked pretty good.
      The knife cabinet was made by Metal Art of Wisconsin. They make some great custom cabinets here in the USA. A quick Google search and they will come up.
      I hope that info helps and thanks for noticing!
      Have a great day.

    Thanks for the informative review. I really appreciate you taking the time. As to this vid I really want this sharpener, but am having a hard time justifying the cost of it. If I were to get something that’s second to this one and more affordable,what would you recommend?

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  3 роки тому +2

      Hello Wesley and thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated!
      I totally understand your dilema. These sharpeners are not cheap. But over the years I have accumulated various sharpeners. A few bucks here, a few more there. If I were to add those costs up, I would have spent less getting a WE sharpener in the first place.
      I have yet to find another sharpener that can perform the way this one does. It truly is at another level compared to others.
      I'm always looking for various solutions in the gear that I review. If anything comparable comes to my attention, I will certainly try and review it.
      Thanks again for your support and have a great weekend!

      Imo, an edge pro is a good compromise for the price. It can be a little harder to use, but after some practice, you can get some great results with it

    • @cudgee7144

      I understand the cost aspect, i am in a position being retired on a fixed income of not being able to afford a WE as much as i would love one. Don't want to start the old American vs. China argument but i recently purchased a clone of this system and added a tormek small knife attachment, with some extra diamond stones i also purchased i now have a fantastic little system for about one tenth of what it would cost me for a WE where i live. So there are other options out there, you just have to do your research. 👍

      Hello Matt, I don't have much experience with electric sharpeners. Just like most products, I'm sure there are units that do a great job and others that eat up much more metal than you would want. But I can speak for this Wicked Edge system. It has treated me quite well over the last few years and has already paid for itself while allowing me to maintain all of my blades including friends and family.

    you complain about spending money to send them out to be sharpened but you have about $850 worth of equipment right in front of you. considering most places charge about $5 to sharpen a knife and assuming your gonna spend about $5 to ship it, since it seems most pay for return shipping, your gonna spend about $10 to get a knife sharpened. i also much rather sharpen a knife my self but dont pretend like this about money unless your sharpening knives as a business to make money. you would have to sharpen over 80 knives to break even. since there are countless knife sharpeners all over the place chances are theres one, if not several, that are local to you. that would cut the cost of getting a knife sharpened by half making your break even point twice as high.

    I am in no way having a go at you or your video, but I cant help thinking what a bunch of suckers we all are. Heres why , we go out and buy some great blades and hundreds of pounds or dollars worth of sharpening systems, then we spend hours sharpening and cutting paper and hairs etc, and put our lovely sharp blades in a cabinet and never use them. I have an old leather knife on my bench that I use to cut everything from boxes to rope, now and again I throw it at the dartboard or wall, I use it to scrape rust off things and spread glue on repairs. The blade gets a quick sharpen on my bench grinder and its ok again. Meanwhine my $100 dollar plus knives do nothing but look pretty. I have lived in Canada and I know hunters that use a snap off blade utility knife for skinning etc, Take a look at Greg Ovens ( who is just great) He has a rusty old knife and shotgun and manages just fine, having said all that , for some reason I really want a wicked edge sharpener system , LOL

      Exactly. I have a fine old Gerber that I force myself to use first when gutting and quartering deer, but the disposable blade systems are actually more convenient since you just toss the blade when it gets dull. My Gerber is basically a dinosaur that will probably get tossed by my wife when I'm gone.

    When you demonstrated the dullness of the blade you went with the paper folded, then too demonstrate the sharpened you unfolded the paper. Use the same to demonstrate both. Also as fat as transparency, its better to show how many subscribers you have vs hiding that. Just my .02

    • @CoachHelder
      @CoachHelder  4 роки тому +1

      Hello Bill, as far as the folding and unfolding of the paper, I really gave it no thought. With this review, as well as all my reviews, I am sharing my opinion. The Wicked Edge sharpeners speak for themselves so it's not like I am trying to sell you anything. I'm just sharing my thoughts on that particular product with my members and subscribers.
      As far as transparency... Why would my number of subscribers impact you in any way? The only people that are interested in my subscriber count are those that are thinking of hiring me to help them with a campaign for their product line. And trust me on this... there are hundreds of websites and Apps that will give them all the information that they need to know; with or without my permission.
      I can spend $200 right now and buy 5000 subscribers; literally, with the snap of my fingers. But would that make my review more interesting to you? To me and the UA-cam world, the most important aspect is engagement. The fact that you took the time to post this comment helps me 10x more than if I added 100 new subscribers overnight. So I truly thank you for that. It is more appreciated than you know. You need to have tough-skin, at times, to deal with some of the comments that get posted on here.
      I just received a few more Wicked-Edge components for sharpening thicker knives, like bayonets. I will be sure to pay closer attention to any demo's that I do so that I convey the info more effectively.
      I thank you for your input; that is how we all learn and get better at what we do.
      Be safe and thanks again for taking the time.

    You should have done more to prove that it does work considering its price. I was going through videos to see if it does sharpen knives to hair-splitting sharpness and I was really considering buying one. I am not really an experienced sharpener and I was hoping to see what a novice like me should expect.
    But after watching you sharpen a relatively soft steel, I kind of changed my mind.
    Do another video showing what it can do because in my opinion, you did not do justice to what it can really do.
