- Jack played the role of King Herod in a special one time performance of Jesus Christ Superstar during the 2006 Benefit concert for YouTHeatre-America and The Ricardo Montalban Foundation. Other cast members included Superstar veterans Ted Neeley as Jesus Christ, Ben Vereen as Judas Iscariot, Yvonne Elliman as Mary Magdalene and Barry Dennen as Pontius Pilate.
This audio clip is the only thing that has surfaced so far besides some small footage found on UA-cam. The quality is quite bad as it was most likely recorded on a cellphone but again it's the only thing we have right now and thus I felt it was still worth sharing.
I NEED a better recording of this!! Also... I just need Jack Black as King Herod in general.

Sadly I think this is prob the only record of his performance other than the bit of this number that’s in the prom video. Back in the day ppl didn’t have their phones on them to always make bootlegs
If rumors are true, the whole performance was professionally recorded but it has remained unreleased.

Man I know Black normally plays comedic roles but he'd be a great/heartbreaking Judas.
I have to think that his 'Get OOOOOOOOOOOUTTTT!" is a reference to Ted Neeley himself.
Jack black is amazing, and could probably pull off any role in this show! I wish there was a better quality version out there.

Wow...I just said to my dad reflecting on the last NBC production that I felt they could have gotten some more star power to bring in more of an audience like maybe Jack Black as King Herod. I had no idea he had ever ACTUALLY done this!

It's not like Alice Cooper would be a nobody. Au contraire, that guy's a living legend. I love both, Alice and Jack to pieces, and it blows my mind that both have been king Herod.

The real tragic thing is that Alice Cooper played King Herod in the 1996 Cast recording and was great, but in the 2018 concert he was just stiff and generally did a worst job than last time he played the role. Instead of getting something new, we got the same thing but worse.
Alice was perfect... Jack should've played Jesus . John Legend couldn't quite cut it.

Ben Vareen. Cool. A very famous actor and dancer. He must have been great in it. I saw him on stage in the mid 1970s in a show that was a big hit, the title of which I can't bring to mind.
I was lucky enough to see him twice in the Broadway production many moons ago -- he stole the show, of course.

Man I wish the quality of this was better. When I just saw the new Jesus Christ SuperStar I was annoyed how horrible Alice Cooper did and was wondering why it wasn't obvious that Jack Black should have played Herod. Didn't realize he actually did it once!

Americans constantly scream and cheer during songs in shows instead of just at the end. Special effect? Funny expression? Costume change? Expect screaming
Those whooping cretins needed to be turned into pillars of salt. A basic rehash of the original films' take is hardly whoop worthy just for being, although whoopers have little to no knowledge of things outside the moments of their existing.
