  • We have some neighbors that needed their oats planted, and since we are having such nice weather, why not take advantage of it!
Plus, I have collected some of my chicken eggs to incubate. I'm excited to have baby chicks in about 3 weeks!!
    Thanks for Watching!!

Frost this morning, but the signs of spring are all around. Crocus, daffodils, and ornamental pears are flowering and I'm noticing a green tint to some of the trees. With the time change, are the cows getting milked earlier, and does that affect production? Blessings on your family and farm, stay safe and have a great week.

Yes, the cows got milked 1 hour earlier this morning. Production will be down in the morning, but they adjust quickly.

Done with this early in Western Pennsylvania a few times. It will work if the weather stays reasonably dry if it gets wet and stays wet you may be replanting. Generally that's the way it is in our part of the US. About 20 years ago we got everything in on the last day of March and we had beautiful weather all summer the next year we tried it and about 10th of April we had a snow froze off all the alfalfa we had growing seated in with the Oates. I've learned to wait till about the 9th or 10th of April before I plant oats where I'm sitting down. Where I'm going in direct and planning to follow with weed in the fall I will plan early

100hp if you have one with the front dolly wheels. Drawbar mounted need about 150 hp tractor to have a heavy enough drawbar. Used to have one on a JD 4450. The neighbors 130 hp Case wasn't strong enough .

We have a saying: "Get gold by throwing oats into the mud." You don't treat your grains against fungal diseases.?
In one field I have clay, sand and gravel. I had corn there 2 years ago and on Google Map you can clearly see where the soil is by the color of the corn.
