  • We were able to see 94% of the total eclipse!
The guys are working on improving drainage to a field that has a lot of surface water . They put in a catchment system that I didn't fully understand the purpose of. The guys help me understand. :)
    Thanks for watching!

I concur with you! Number one, don’t understand why it’s called “tile” when it looks like large pvc. Lots more numbers I could add as I still don’t understand but I was educated a smidge more with this video! Thanks for the education!!!

The big holes in that barrel will let the dirt into the tile line and risk plugging it. Washed stone or clear gravel around a drain pipe helps. Where I live we put a T connector in the line and use either a larger diameter piece of tile or a pvc pipe with holes cut in it placed vertically out of the T for the drain pipe and then stone around it.

We have dry land farming in Saskatchewan and Alberta. I am not familiar with "tile". However, we had a garage built in our backyard a few years ago. The contractor installed drainage tile at the base of foundation that drains out to the back lane. He also put about 6 inches of course gravel over the drainage tile before covering it up with topsoil.

I used to do field tiling in the 1980's with cement tiles before every one went to all plastic tile it was hard work. Brought back memories bad ones because it was hard work no not really bad ones just memories.

When I was in my early teens we had a man come to the farm with a wheel ditcher every spring! My siblings and I wore our selves out carrying clay tile to the ditcher and my dad walked the ditch and fed the ditcher! Since the day of plastic rolls it is much better! I am amused that it is still call tiling!

Eclipse at 96% here (according to the news) and while it didn't seem noticeably darker, shadows definitely appeared faded. Watched most of the eclipse and was impressed that that small sliver of visible sun disk could supply enough light to seem almost normal. I did have to put on a sweat shirt, thought, since it was much colder and windy at the point of totality. Also of note was that all birds and animals acted normally except neighbors in the area who all seemed to be outside staring at the sun. . .

You had an almost total solar eclipse. A few years ago it was maybe 70%. We also had a lunar eclipse.
You should cover this well with straw at the location of the drain holes to prevent soil from getting into it and clogging the drains.

What Kevin is getting at is the tile underground only takes subsurface water or water in the ground. The amount of water that comes in from across the road is more than the soil can absorb therefore it never makes it in the ground before it runs out into the field. The catch barrel will collect SURFACE water and give it a direct path to the tile underground and increase the speed at which the water runs through the field tile and out to the drain. I got what he was saying but he was trying to get it done and didn’t really explain it too well. Been there lol

I am on the east side of Michigan and we had an Eclipse here too! I could not look at it directly because I did not have a pair of those special glasses. So I simulated it and watched it that way. On the back of my house there is a floodlight (the simulated sun) that came on when it got dark. I stood about 10 feet back and slowly moved my fist (the simulated moon) between my eyes and the floodlight while looking at the floodlight. It lasted about 10 seconds and I was in The Path of Totality. Sorry I did not take any pictures. I will have to wait until 2045 to see it again and get a picture then. If I remember, I still live in the same house and the floodlight still works.

You likely saw more of the eclipse than we did in Calgary, Alberta. You were smart using the welding glass to look at the sun. The next eclipse will likely see me in Heaven. I was not outside so I do not know if the birds started chirping when it started getting dark. Some UA-cam channels showed that. Thank you for your video(s).

The confusing part is calling a plastic drainpipe a tile. I have tile in the bathroom, and it isn't a plastic drain pipe. We got 94% eclipse at 3:29pm, but it was a crescent on the lower left not the upper right. Probably because we are in the north east.
