It was released for the Nintendo 64 and Microsoft Windows in 1999, and Dreamcast and PlayStation in 2000. I absolutely love rayman 2 music. I recently replayed it and ended up humming the main themes for a couple of weeks. I cannot believe one could find anything to criticize it for! It was a perfect mixture of electronic and tribal sounds, energetic, funny (all the "scary" tracks!) and memorable

    • @beb9987
      @beb9987 5 років тому +5

      The music is amazing,it's geniuenly my favourite video game soundtracks of all time. But the N64 has a different score than the other versions. The rhytm sections are kind of identical but it has a lot less depth and bite to it. I can see the appeal but i haven't met anybody who prefers it to the original,it's just dull in my opinion.

    With me being 17, I never had an N64 as a kid, we had PS1 and then a PS2 and eventually my brother got a PS3 and I split off and got an Xbox 360, and I recently bought an N64 solely to check out No Mercy but I was also hoping to get Banjo Kazooie since I'd never played it and it's cheaper than Super Mario 64 and Donkey Kong 64 but I lost out on the auction on Ebay and I couldn't find another decent copy of it and while I wait for another decent copy to spring up, I'm gonna get Rayman 2 after watching this review, should wet my appetite, thanks Glenn! Also its a shame Conkers Bad Fur Day is £100+ nowadays, insane price for what looks like an average game

      if you like games of this sort check out rocket robot on wheels also released by Ubi soft and made by sucker punch who you might know from the sly cooper and infamous series it came out around the same time as rayman 2 but sadly it didn't catch on and is pretty much forgotten these days but it's excellent one of my faves on the system and extremely underrated

      Which port do u think's the best? I'd have to go with Dreamcast.

    • @Animated__Freak
      @Animated__Freak 8 років тому +1

      AnnoyingReply Yes the Dreamcast is the best console port, from what I know it's pretty much like the PC version but on a console. I don't like the voice acting of the PS2 and I prefer the original graphics over the remake so Dreamcast version is the best one imo. The 3DS one is really buggy so I would avoid that one.

    • @deckofcards87
      @deckofcards87 8 років тому +1

      +Animated Freak Kew. Agreed about the American voice acting, ugh. The mumbling's so much more unique/charming.
      And i'll never pick up a DS so no worries there.

    • @deckofcards87
      @deckofcards87 8 років тому +1

      +AnnoyingReply It surprised me that the ps1 port's easily the worst. Nintendo did a splendid job with what they could utilize.

    • @Animated__Freak
      @Animated__Freak 8 років тому

      AnnoyingReply Yes I agree about the voice acting, the mumbling just adds to the already rich world of the game. Well there is the DS version and then the 3DS version. The DS version is kinda impressive considering the hardware. But the 3DS version is just a disappointment.

    One of my absolute favorites. Rented this all the time. One of the most memorable scenes in gaming for me was assembling the totem pole, and having that completely unsettling scene. The art design in Rayman games has always been astounding, but I think Rayman 2 is really just one of the definitive surrealist visions I've ever seen.
    The thing that I love about this game is how much it embraces the exploratory part of action platforming. Being able to explore levels in a way that exceeded Mario 64 in some ways, and always feeling the drive forward. It's not a very "tight" platformer per say, but that really gives it a lot of character. I love just moving around and navigating through levels. A real treat.
    One thing which I dislike is the sheer amount of rail sections though. It can be especially frustrating when you're trying to get all the Lums, and the controls aren't nearly as tight there. There's so many of those sections, and I feel it does more to hinder than help the game.
    I really want to pick this game up again, and I heard Rayman Forever was a great remake. The memories for this one are so vivid and was really a defining game which shaped my interest in "darker" kid themes. Everything about it was simply alluring, and even when there was a snag, I always wanted to see it through. It's a game which compels you to see more, has it's own unique style, and doesn't sacrifice providing a clear experience.
    Great review, Glenn!

      @n64glennplant  9 років тому

      AguyinaRPG ah thank you so much, you know i kinda have the same feelings towards this game, but yeah the rails sections are quite extensive but fun enough until you get to the trickier ones where you need tons of attempts to do them!

    This is by far one of my favorite 64 titles. My older brother didn't like it that much, but it was a sensation with me and the kids I was gaming with at the time. Everything about this title was strong, with the exception of the pretty generic "collect the magic McGuffin to defeat the big baddy, restore balance, and save the world." I think the sound and music is what stuck in my head the most.

It was a game I had barely seen screenshots off in magazines etc, but didnt know anyone who had this, was interested in it or ever talked about it. Rayman (the first) for PS1 seemed to have been having a lot more general popularity in my circles. At one point, I have given Rayman 2 a try on a friend's N64. I only really played it for a short time, so I wasn't able to let the game sink in before I was able to feel any appreciation for the game or if I wasn't really interested in it despite not finding anything really wrong with it. Now and then, I had urges to take a much closer look into the game.
    When GoG sold a Rayman bundle earlier this year, this game being among them, I did buy it, so at least I can say that I have some sort of access to the PC version of the game if I ever get around to playing it.

    I'm in the minority here: I think Rayman 2 is really fun about 80% of the time, but there are some sections/levels that I find just plain irritating. I also find that once I get through a level, I don't have much desire to replay the level to collect everything.

    • @n64glennplant

      That’s very true...doesn’t have the same replay ability that many of the classics have IMO

    I think the main reason I didn't pick this up was Tonic Trouble. I bought it one day and played it a bunch, but never got very far. I kept getting stuck at hard parts that shouldn't have been hard. I definitely see what you mean buy Tonic being the test subject. I have played a little Rayman 2, but I need to play more. Great review!

    Wow I had no clue this was a 64 game. I think I had a demo of it on PS and then later bought a pack with rayman 2, 3 and the multiplayer M and looooved it. Really amazing platform and hoodlum havoc had so much content for me as a kid my mind was blown!

    Wish I'd found this as a kid! This is a hidden gem for sure. It kept surprising me with how varied it was and works just as well as Mario 64. Music loops can be buggy and boss battles a bit tedious but would definitely recommend

    I first discovered Rayman 2 (Revolution) for the PS2 on UA-cam about 4 years ago when scrolling through game soundtracks and was instantly hooked. I got the game short after that and then realized there was many other versions like N64, PSX and Dreamcast. R2R is a really good remaster and is frustratingly difficult sometimes, havent even beaten it yet. It has a special place in my heart tho, cuz I love the artstyle and music.
    Speaking about music, I would like to hear some of the games music in your reviews when you are talking about the sound/music parts. That would make your reviews even more enjoyable ;)
    Like when you did the (holyshitIloveturok2'smusic) Turok 2 review it would be nice to hear some samples in 100% volume, when you talk about the music, instead of playing the track in the background hearing you talking over it, if you know what I mean. Sorry for my rubbish english, but I hope you got my message. I love your reviews anyway,, but they could be even better if you introduced that little thing. Peace.

    I didn't pick it up because , although i enjoyed the first one on the Saturn. I was a little bit more grown up and saw it as being too kiddy for me. Games were expensive and £50 was alot of money for a 11 year old. I bought Shadowman on the N64 instead. Don't regret my purchase. Picked up Rayman 2 on the Dreamcast later however and really enjoyed it.

    I picked this one up for the Dreamcast back in the day. Beautiful game. I never had a problem with the music since it did it's job well and kept to the flow of the game. Love the art design and gorgeous colors. Often it feels like you're playing through a Saturday morning cartoon. I'm pleased that Rayman has been getting proper games of late. Words cannot express my disappointment the first time I played Raving Rabbids (blind buy) on the Wii. Definitely didn't expect a mini games collection.

    The N64 version of Rayman 2 used a 256 Megabit cartridge. Hard to believe Ubisoft was able to fit this entire game on the that cartridge format huh? Also, the N64 version of Rayman 2 outsold the PS1, Dreamcast, and Windows versions combined as well!

    I guess that back in the day, I only watched platformers developed by Nintendo or Rare as worthy of any attention. However, I did played this game on the Dreamcast and had one hell of a good time with it, at the time it was one of the best platformers I had played. Then I played the port on DS and I didn't liked it. Some things about it were off, and the lack of joystick really hurted it. Guess I should try the N64 version in the future.

    This is my favorite version of Rayman 2. I've played the PS and DC versions and I just can't help but like the N64 version better. I don't know what it is, but there is just something about it that makes me like it more, despite all versions being almost identical (except the PS2 version I believe).

    I've recently shaved my N64 collection down considerably and decided to only focus on the games I'm actually going to play through. Your review has inspired me to seek this one out as a keeper as I absolutely adore the newer 2D Rayman games and this seems have some of that charm. It's odd, however, that I've never latched onto the original. It just turns me off for some reason. It's probably the only series where I feel that the first game is the worst.

    This was another popular rental for me and the boys back in the day. It was great and since we didn't have memory card, we would try and fail to finish it in one siting. I picked it up again a few years back and was surprised to find it was superior to the PSX game and still holds up really well. I also have a memory card now so I no longer have to try to finish it one siting.
