A few other really great ones I can think of: -Sin & Punishment: not exactly hidden with it being referenced in Smash Bros. and playable on the NSO service but it still isn't talked about nearly as much as it should be considering it's Treasure completely in their element with a high-octane, sci-fi rail shooter. -Mystical Ninja & Goemon's Great Adventure: the Goemon series unfortunately never stood a chance outside of Japan with Konami localizing so few of the games, which is a shame considering how fun and unapologetically wacky the series is. Both N64 games are great with a 3D adventure game and a side-scroller more similar to the previous entries. -Rocket Robot on Wheels: a really fun and charming collect-a-thon from a pre-Sly Cooper and Ghost of Tsushima Sucker Punch. Not quite Banjo or Mario 64 levels but definitely still worth a play.
Yeah, Goemon needs more love. I would also list the two Extreme G games, basically Mario Kart but with futuristic bikes and a great electronic soundtrack, and Wave Race 64.
I feel like Goemon's Great Adventure should be on more of these lists. It's one of my favourite games on the system, which is saying something since when the N64 was good, it was _very_ good.
Awesome game and that song and robot intro scene was just insane. I had to look it up again because I thought my memory of it was just a bizarre fever dream I had. Quest 64 was another amazing game I loved.
Another great gem of there's was an early one back on the Sega Mega Drive, McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure. Amazing game, just imagine if we ever got a Treasure Collection... the quality that collection would hold 🔥
Ogre Battle 64 is still one of my all-time favourites. I absolutely loved the story and unique gameplay. Also, as an N64 player, I always love seeing this sort of content on this channel!
The "Ogre Battle" franchise is literally called "Ogre Battle" because the developers were massive fans of Queen who had a song called "Ogre Battle". They also had a game called "Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen" which is actually 2 different Queen songs.
My personal hidden gem for the N64 was Hybrid Heaven. Yeah, it was clunky in places (like the platforming) and had some overly drawn-out boring bits, but at its best there was no experience quite like it on the N64- the fully-voiced opening cutscene with lip-synched dialogue, the vast and menacing alien base hidden under an American city, the chase sequence with the giant monster, the big plot twist that flips the story upside down, and the turn-based limb-targeting martial arts/wrestling combat system that is like absolutely nothing I've ever seen in any other game. Unfortunately I got a bit stuck at the end when I got badly lost trying to escape the alien base during the climax, and since internet guides were hard to come by at the time, I never actually managed to finish it. I should probably hook up the old black box and see if my save is still there on the memory card somewhere.
I was also tempted to mention Hybrid Heaven, but decided to give a shoutout to a different game instead (that being Flying Dragon). Hybrid Heaven was such a unique and interesting game, and was a breath of fresh air for an RPG fan like myself on a console that had practically none.
If you guys ever do Hidden Gems for the Original Xbox, I highly recommend Phantom Dust. You won't find many people who've played it, but the few who have swear by it as one of the best games they've ever played. It's an innovative amalgam of 3rd-person shooting and deck building. The art direction and setting is memorable as well. Dare I say it's THE hidden gem of that console. Best of all, the HD re-release is free on the Microsoft store.
Ogre Battle 64 is one of the best N64 games period, of all genres. Everything about it was perfect! I was playing that and body harvest and jet force gemini over almost every other n64 game. Lol
@Adam Block ive been hoping that for years. Along the same lines, dont change much, updated graphics, mb a few gameplay improvements but thats it. No major changes to anything. It was perfect the way it was!
Oh Mischief Makers. I came across you randomly, and you have yet to leave my mind or heart. I do hope SquareEnix will be gracious enough to give us that game and Ogre Battle 64 for the NSO, but we shall see if they feel like being so generous...
Spacestation Silicone Valley deserves mega kudos for it's soundtrack. I was and am still obsessed with OoT but I still found time for SSV. It was a great time
Thank you for being one of the few to realise that Space Station Silicon Valley exists which has long been one of my favourite games of all-time on any system. It has a great sense of humour as well as one of my favourite soundtracks ever :)
I had Star Soldier, Mischief Makers and Beetle Adventure Racing when I was a kid. I didn't mind Star Soldier but I've always preferred horizontal shooters to the vertical ones. I really loved Gradius 3 on the snes. Mischief Makers is one of my favourite N64 games. It was such a fun game. I remember going back trying to get all the gold gems to unlock the full ending. Some of them were so hard to get. Beetle Adventure racing was also a lot of fun. We played through the whole thing and unlocked everything and we used to play a lot of multiplayer.
Man, I LOVED Bangai-O. I imported it and indeed played it on the N64 (also played it on the Dreamcast). The style of the game alone was awesome to me, but the insane bullet hell-like missles/bullets etc were some of the most fun I had holding an N64 pad to be honest. I'd love to see a remaster or just a straight re-release on current systems (I'm a PC gamer, but a Switch version for example would be amazing to see) but sadly I doubt that'll happen.
When my parents got me a N64 the very first game I've bought for it was Mischief Makers, I so wanted to play it after reading a preview in a gaming magazine. I wasn't disappointed, beautiful game. We N64 folks didn't have Metal Gear Solid, but Konami instead gave us a weird sci-fi brawler adventure called Hybrid Heaven; it had boring repetitive corridors, tons of the same turrets and traps you needed to deactivate with a gun, but the dopest part was entering a battle against a humanoid foe, where you could even learn wrestling moves to build your arsenal of combos as you progress through the story. Very weird, but unique gem, it helped that it was launched back in the Attitude era of WWE.
@@benamisai-kham5892 You’re right, forgot it had compatibility with the Expansion Pak, I honestly deactivated the hi def option because I didn’t like playing at 20fps, lmao.

Novody ever seems to remember Hybrid Heaven. Its combat system is still _UTTERLY_ unique in the entire history of video games- turn-based martial arts/wrestling with limb damage and RPG elements that let you level up your limbs and your vast array of moves independently. How many other games let you put a claw-handed alien in a crucifix armbar? Trick question: NONE.
@@sonicguyver7445 That reminds me of a time my friend's sister was tired of us playing her Perfect Dark game, so the point where out of spite she snapped the brass connectors so the game would no longer work. Funnily enough, my friend and I decided to give it a try anyway, and the game still worked, which just further pissed her off. All she managed to do was cause the save data to delete (or at least make it so the game couldn't read it).

Ogre battle 64 was also more expensive back when there wasn’t a standard cost for games. I wonder if that caused it not being as popular. Great game. I Also loved Quest64
I certainly wasn't buying enough games back then to be aware if there was any standard cost for games or not, but I do remember spending something like $70, or close to it, when I bought Ogre Battle 64 the day it released.
My hidden gem is rat attack, it was silly but I found it so fun and entertaining. I don't see others talk about it fondly often though The Tom and Jerry one reminds me of the N64 power puff girls game!
Thank you for this! I had Buck Bumble, Space station Silicone valley, and Mischief makers as a kid. I also had Bangai-O that my uncle gave to me, but because the cart was in JPN I never knew what the actual title was. Now I can re-search for it!
My biggest hidden gem for n64 is Aidyn Chronicles: The First Mage. Is a huge rpg with a huge overworld, tons of character customization and tons of weapons and magical items to explore for. If you can bear the long battle system, theres a massive amount of content to enjoy in this game. Most people pass it up due to some handful of reviewers who gave the game a few minutes of their time telling them its a "bad" game, but its a super fun game thatll last you 50+ hours
Fascinating. I've never heard anybody give Aidyn Chronicles praise. Myself included, although not because I thought it was a bad game. I actually remember really liking the battle system, which basically took the Quest 64 battle system and made it good. Rather, I just really hated the permanent deaths, and how easy it was for your characters to get killed. That aspect eventually got on my nerves for a couple reasons, so I eventually just got sick of it before getting any further than like 10 hours in.
@@gurvmlk youre the second person recently to tell me your characters died easily in your playthrough Im not doubting your experience or anything, but it's not really a problem Ive ever had with the game, as I find it to be more easy than difficult. Thanks for actually talking about Buck Bumble as a game. Every Time it is mentioned the song is the only thing discussed, but the game is actually really fun and it bums me out no one ever discusses it.
Beetle Adventure Racing was released in Australia, owned it then and still do now. HSV was released a little later I guess to try and push the sales of the game in Australia. -Also you mentioned how BAR is a lot like NFS for N64, well it actually is. According to Cutting Room Floor there are still small amounts of "NFS" left in the game ROM.
Ogre Battle 64 was phenomenal. Having played the original on the SNES, I remember reading about it in a gaming magazine, and being absolutely hyped for months leading up to its release. I even talked a friend into splitting the cost, and therefore ownership of the game, with me just to make sure I'd be able to have the money for it on day one. Bangai-O was also incredible, but as said suggested in this video, I was only familiar with it on the Dreamcast. I never even knew there was an N64 version until seeing it just now. As for obscure N64 games, a favorite of mine that wasn't on this list, but I feel fits the bill because I never hear people talk about it, was Flying Dragon. Not the deepest fighting game out there, but as a kid I loved it almost as much as Smash Bros, and spent hours upon hours grinding in single player to collect, and level up gear to then battle my friends.
I remember I picked up Buck Bumble once upon a time from blockbuster, very strange game, back then it was OK, I used some cheat codes I think to see all the levels. That game is very impressive the more I think about it, they managed to pull of an impressive effort in the direction of what games like Toy Commander on Dreamcast and Katamari Damacy would end up doing so well, the latter a well known PS2 game utilizing far more powerful hardware.
Mischief Makers was far ahead of its time. It had that quirkiness and charm that could pull in anyone, along with insane boss fight mechanics and sequences.
God, this is such a good channel. I know this comment doesn't have much depth to it but I just wanted to throw that out there. Good, quality stuff. Look forward to a new video every time. Keep it up yo!👍
I like Top Gear Overdrive on N64. Was a fun arcade racer and the soundtrack was awesome. I still have it but it's buggy in insane ways since my house got hit by lightning while I was playing it and corrupted the game. heh. Just made it more fun in my eyes.
I can't believe you had Buck Bumble on the list... and DIDN'T mention the music (best video game rap ever) and also the Buzzball multiplayer mode, which is basically Rocket League with bees. One hidden gem I think should have been mentioned is World Driver Championship. A realistic racing game with better graphics, physics and computer AI than Gran Turismo with only the lack of a licence for real life cars and tracks letting it down.
My cousin had Beetle Adventure Racing and I played it with him and I was unimpressed. For a hidden N64 racing gem I would pick World Driver Championship as it had solid racing and the story mode and a neat feature where racing teams would try to get you to leave your current team and join them
Right now I am going through the some really dark times and can honestly say this is one of the only things that I actually allows me to forget my troubles even if just for a few minutes. Just wanted to say thank you for everyone's hard work.
I just was feeling I'll probably never be able to play these games ever because I'm under the impression since they're such hidden gems they won't appear on the N64 online on switch. I grew up playing the N64 in the 90s, but I never got to play any of these games. I've heard of the silicon Valley one and I've also definitely heard of that one with that robot with the green hair
They sell a n64 game cartridge with every n64 game on it and it's called super 64 cartridge, look it up people even do videos about it that's how I found out and bought one and they seem for 80 and all the games work great but one or two might be a little bit darker than usual but it might be my old tv I'm using. But yeah check it out and buy one
Man, I used to play Space Station Silicon Valley for hours as a kid. That game was so weird to me with the bug that took control of robot animals. There was no other game liek it though.
It's one of the most polarizing controllers of all time. Everyone seems to either think it's an all-time great or an abomination, with little middle ground.
As far as I know, there are only three possible endings in Ogre Battle 64, and they are tied to the invisible Chaos Frame stat that only appears at the ending. I had to read some guides to understand it.
Im wrong there isnt over 5. Theres only 5 but theres 2 types. Good and bad endings and yes they do depend on your chaos rating at the end (chaotic, neutral, Lawful)
And featuring giant mecha battles with their own control system AND musical numbers on top of all that. I must confess- at times I felt that kooky game almost outshone Zelda, if only because Zelda didn't allow me to do punch-out battles with giant robots OR turn into a mermaid.
The funny thing is that, because I read so many N64 magazines back in the day, I actually did hear about all these games when they were new (except for Bangai-O which I discovered a few years ago). 😆 Unfortunately the only ones I got a chance to play properly were Space Station Silicon Valley (one of my fave N64 games) and Buck Bumble (wasn't really a fan tbh). And the only one I have in any playable form right now is Ogre Battle 64 (because I bought it on the Wii U). Would love the opportunity to check out S.C.A.R.S, Beetle Adventure Racing and Mischief Makers though. Hopefully they get added to Nintendo Switch Online someday. Also, if you want to talk about 'review scores varying wildly' (as you did with Rakuga Kids) I'm pretty sure the Tom & Jerry game had scores ranging from 95% to about 30-40%. 😉
There's so many more under-appreciated N64 games that didn't even make this list. The Goemon games are big up there (Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon & Goemon's Great Adventure). Sin & Punishment deserves more love (It's now on Switch Online). I don't hear a ton of people talk about the N64 Bomberman games (Bomberman 64, Bomberman 64: The Second Attack, & Bomberman Hero), though Bomberman 64 gets some mentions. Chameleon Twist is good. Rocket: Robot On Wheels is very good. And I don't know if it's _that_ good, but I'll shoutout Tonic Trouble anyway. So many hidden gems! I also didn't know that Jet Force Gemini was considered a hidden gem, seeing as how Rare made it (you can even see posters for it in Banjo-Tooie). Mischief Makers is also toeing the line, but I guess it counts enough. Also, I like the box arts for those two games.
Whoa, no mention of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon? Zelda, mario, and banjo may have dominated the landscape, but mystical ninja was a brilliant 3D action adventure that took you all over Kyoto on a dragon and into magical castles in the same vein.
Awww I was really hoping Worms: Armageddon would make this list. You talk about a hidden N64 gem, and that's one that everyone should play if they like turn-based strategy.
I think the reason it wasn't on was because it was also on the PlayStation 1 and it's a worms game most worms games are pretty decently known that you wouldn't really consider them hidden gems
@@ryancraig110 I suppose that's fair. I always thought of Worms as obscure because at the time of Armageddon's release on N64 it felt as if nobody knew about it and it was super hard to find, but I forget that the franchises has always had a pretty decent following overall.
Hoping Ogre Battle: A Persons of Lordly Caliber is on here, Mystical Ninja: Starring Goemon and Snowboard Kids, spent 100s of hours with the first and 2nd is possibly the best snowboard race game ever made. And Goemon was a whole unique experience O.O very Japanese, but awesome Love Star Solider too!! Awesome you put it on here :)
Haha mystical ninja …… such a great game I almost forgot about it. Beat it with my friend. It was weird in that it started kinda mediocre but got amazing the more you played. Great game!
One of the weirdest things about Space Station Silicon Valley is that it (apparently) doesn't run stable on N64 systems with expansion paks installed, which is REALLY annoying actually, because it's really not that easy to swap the expansion pak for the jumper pak (and a lot of people might not have their jumper pak anymore).
@ 14:58 IF Bangai O is in a multi-tier "arena like stages" and you're not always moving, then it's NOT a "unique take on a shooter," it's a unique take on platforming. Having a gun and shooting things doesn't make you a shooter, just ask Samus Aran.

I'm pretty sure you broke several laws by talking about Buck Bumble without mentioning the theme song even once.
My top hidden gems for the N64:
Rocket: Robot on Wheels
Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Snowboard Kids
Chameleon Twist 2
A few other really great ones I can think of:
-Sin & Punishment: not exactly hidden with it being referenced in Smash Bros. and playable on the NSO service but it still isn't talked about nearly as much as it should be considering it's Treasure completely in their element with a high-octane, sci-fi rail shooter.
-Mystical Ninja & Goemon's Great Adventure: the Goemon series unfortunately never stood a chance outside of Japan with Konami localizing so few of the games, which is a shame considering how fun and unapologetically wacky the series is.
How ironic that you mentioned mischief-makers because Marina light-years was just added to the Super Smash Brothers 64 mod smash remix
I feel like JFG was plenty popular. Ogre Battle though was definitely a hidden gem. Loved it.
God, this is such a good channel. I know this comment doesn't have much depth to it but I just wanted to throw that out there. Good, quality stuff. Look forward to a new video every time. Keep it up yo!👍
This is a good list! Usually these lists are super predictable but this one has some good mentions
With Buck Bumble, I was expected "Buck off" or something of the like but you played it clean. Well done
I like Top Gear Overdrive on N64. Was a fun arcade racer and the soundtrack was awesome. I still have it but it's buggy in insane ways since my house got hit by lightning while I was playing it and corrupted the game. heh. Just made it more fun in my eyes.
Ocarener of time? Love you boys across the pond. You guys crack me up both when you try, and when you don’t.
I'm so happy to see BAR at #2. The N64 library is almost half racing games, and it has always been under appreciated.
I actually played a few of those. My brothers and I still love the Buck Bumble theme.
Wow you named 3 games that I’ll never forget. Beetle adventure racing was great with the hidden paths and secrets
Shake shake shake! Mischief Makers is so fun and challenging
For a hidden N64 racing gem I would pick World Driver Championship as it had solid racing and the story mode and a neat feature where racing teams would try to get you to leave your current team and join them
They really need to reboot the Buck Bumble game. Could be a breath of fresh air we need
No love for Pilotwings, F-Zero X or Blast Corps. They deserved honourable mentions at least
Not hidden!
Right now I am going through the some really dark times and can honestly say this is one of the only things that I actually allows me to forget my troubles even if just for a few minutes. Just wanted to say thank you for everyone's hard work.
Jesus dude, you must be a little dark at the moment, N64 wasn't even that great. Hope you stay well my friend. 🤜
Here looking for attention?
@@jarlwhiterun7478 people go through shit bud. Leave the fella alone. Dudes just thanking Triple Jump legends for lightening the load in his life.
@@jarlwhiterun7478 Clearly you've never gone through anything or you would think before you reply. Good luck on your adventure, keyboard warrior.
I loved everything about the Nintendo 64
Fantastic video! Deep research and interesting trivias! Btw, Ogre Battle 64 ftw
Rocket Robot on wheels is probably one of my favorite N64 games. should absolutely be on this list.
Totally thought I'd see Rocket Robot on Wheels which was Sucker Punch's first game before SLy Cooper and InFamous.
Y’all should do a list for GameCube so you can talk about “Gotcha force “. The greatest game you never heard of !
Man, I used to play Space Station Silicon Valley for hours as a kid. That game was so weird to me with the bug that took control of robot animals. There was no other game liek it though.
Mischief maker was my game. Still got it.
Most of these games I've heard great things about, but still have to play myself. My #1 choice of underrated N64 gem is Tetrisphere.
Controversial opinion: the N64 controller Is one of my favourites
It's one of the most polarizing controllers of all time. Everyone seems to either think it's an all-time great or an abomination, with little middle ground.
I had the Space Station game and played the hell out of it.
Ive finished ogre battle over 10 times. Amazing game with MULTIPLE endings. Over 5 i believe and ive only ever seen 3!
My man! Give it here!
Mystical Ninja starring Goemon: A Legend of Zelda game with an Edo Japan coat of paint. INCREDIBLE
And featuring giant mecha battles with their own control system AND musical numbers on top of all that. I must confess- at times I felt that kooky game almost outshone Zelda, if only because Zelda didn't allow me to do punch-out battles with giant robots OR turn into a mermaid.
Yeah, it's like a LoZ combined with Mario, and perhaps a little DK 64 with the character swapping.
The funny thing is that, because I read so many N64 magazines back in the day, I actually did hear about all these games when they were new (except for Bangai-O which I discovered a few years ago). 😆
Unfortunately the only ones I got a chance to play properly were Space Station Silicon Valley (one of my fave N64 games) and Buck Bumble (wasn't really a fan tbh).
surprised that Sin & Punishment wasnt mentioned
I'm also baffled to hear Jet Force Gemini referred to as a hidden gem. That game seemed so mainstream to me, it's hard to imagine it as being obscure.
Buck Bumble needs a well deserved reboot.
Is Glover considered a hidden treasure or was it relatively well known?
BUCK BUMBLE!!!! Awww man I use to love renting that one!
Whoa, no mention of Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon? Zelda, mario, and banjo may have dominated the landscape, but mystical ninja was a brilliant 3D action adventure that took you all over Kyoto on a dragon and into magical castles in the same vein.
Ogre Battle 64 was awesome, and the story gets fairly dark
Drawn to Death was a now defunct Indy game with style similar to that kids fighting game right before ogre battle 64
Chameleon twist, bomberman hero, snowboard kids 2, tonic trouble, gex, Kirby crystal shards.
Music artist "Mouse on Mars" used footage of Space Station Silicone Valley in one music video.
If you did a top 10 best title screen music video Buck Bumble would be number 1.
Beetle Adventure Racing was fantastic.
Mischief makers and jet force geminie are my 2 fav n64 titles
"Shake shake".
Buck to the beat, buck to the bass, buck to the bumble.
Beetle Adventure Racing was one of my favorites. Loved playing that with friends and siblings.
You always choose the same car?
To be fair, there was a point in time where the cartel were smuggling avocados
Buck bumbles theme tune is incredible
And Goemon was a whole unique experience O.O very Japanese, but awesome
Love Star Solider too!!
Mischief makers was my favourite game on the n64. this game was so damn good
@ 14:58 IF Bangai O is in a multi-tier "arena like stages" and you're not always moving, then it's NOT a "unique take on a shooter," it's a unique take on platforming. Having a gun and shooting things doesn't make you a shooter, just ask Samus Aran.
Mischief Makers had one of the best OSTs of its time!!!
Omg star soldier was amazing, I remember playing it as a kid
I only know about Jet Force Gemini because 14-Year Old Brian Zane is a fan.
If it didn't get that Nightdive remaster, gurantee Doom 64 would've made the list; a lot of people overooked it when it first dropped
I still HAVE mischief makers on original hardware. Such a good game.
Mischief Makers was ducking amazing.
Man I loved buck bumble. Give it up now cause it's time to rock with the bickety buck bumble
Mario odyssey always reminded me of Kirby and space station Silicon Valley
BUCK BUMBLE! Core memory unlocked!
