- To this day, Pokemon Stadium is the most technically impressive Pokemon game I've played. Yes, time is a factor, but there's no denying how ahead of the pack it was where modern games are still attempting to catch up to its attention to detail, bombastic nature, and animation quality.

Part of the joy that comes from these two games is the announcer. His classic lines and jolly voice make the experience so much better.
As a kid, even though I was the "right" age, I missed gen 1. Gen 2 was my intro to the series (I think Stadium 2 was there first Pokemon videogame I saw), and MAN OH MAN. I genuinely feel like in terms of direction and ambition, Gen 2 was the pinnacle of the franchise to this day. The rest is great, but Gen 2 and Crystal version will always be my favorite.

I would've missed Gen 1 too if my dumbass cousin didn't trade my copy of pokemon gold for pokemon red when I let him borrow my Gameboy Color smh I even missed out the remakes of Gen 2 since I sold my DS before HeartGold and SoulSilver came out

@@onejamaican1551 ture but i ran a test today on pokemon staduim 2. yeah kadabra pyshic is stronger then alkazams psybeam only by 30%. i did a test on doing 1vs1. i had kadarba fight machamp and had kadarbra use psyshic on machamp and machamp had only 10%hp left. then when i had alakazam use pysbeam on machamp he only had 30% health left. so yeah kadabra pyshic is only slighty stronger then alakazam pysbeam. so useingg alakazam is better because he has more speed and take more hits then kadarba. yeah idk why pokemon staduim 1 and 2 give 1st and 2nd evlovtion better moves and 3rd evoltions trash moves. like if they give alakazam psyhic then yeah he would be a good pokemon. only way we can have alakazam have psychic if we use our own pokemon but switch version don.t support GB pokemon yet.

@@iamkakashi20his speed and defense is sooooo negligibly better kadabra is much better to use. 20% extra damage is so much more I’m not sure you realize being able to OHKO a Pokémon so much more valuable then a tiny amount more speed.
His defense is paper thin no matter what. Everything will 1-2 HKO either.

I remember absolutely owning my cousins in the Chansey mini game. Such and insanely memorable game, I’m glad to see it back!
The Chansey minigame is the best. I forget if I ever got all 100 on the hardest difficulty, definitely got close though. So much fun.
I may finally grab the Expansion just for this. Effing LOVED Stadium 2 so much. My inner child is crying so hard with joy.

I love this game. I have so many memories attached to it.
The Stadium allowed trades by yourself, super easy for the breeding in gen2, play game boy on a Tv without worrying about lighting or batteries. And then the challenges on round 1 vs R2. And Rival was so challenging. Amazing memories from this.
I wish they'd make Stadium 3 man, I'll take up to gen 3 even, just give me this energy with modern graphics.
There is three stadium games actually, the first one only released in Japan. The Stadium 1 in the West is stadium 2 in Japan. also there's Pokemon colosseum, which is kind of like what your asking for.

The difference is that Stadium 1 has quite some useful and even "op" mons like Jynx.
But I read that Stadium 2 rentals are overall worse

I would wish for people to see how great the Pokémon Stadium games and Battle Revolution are and hopefully bring this back for modern fans of the franchise.
Imagine if Nintendo made a game revolving around mini games like Mario Party I bet it would be a gold mine

I have played Pokémon Stadium 2 a lot this year. I got it for my Nintendo 64 for a few months ago and I have played both Pokémon Red, Blue, Gold, Silver and Crystal on it right now and it is fantastic fun.
There's a lot of points you brought up I never thought of and the fact that animations and other aspects actually hold up and even laughably rival what the mainline games are half-assing these days 20 years later is actually hilarious.
Really enjoyed this vid and your flow of commentary and presenting is really good. Love your room setup especially the CRT TV + TMNT Turtles in Time cabinet, definitely subbed now!

The delibird mini game was always the best
i remember playing this game as a kid and loving it, i remember with the gym leader aspect you can beat the pokemon league and unlock special pokemon, i got a special psyduck which i never used, but i like that it was there

Stadium 2 on the Switch would be the game that sells the Switch Online Expansion service if Game Freak didn't shoot themselves in the foot by not allowing you to use your own Pokemon from RBYGSC.
Pokemon Stadium 2's R-2 Mode pulls no punches. Playing with only Rentals in that mode is not my idea of fun, especially when the movesets of fully evolved Pokemon are gimped in order to get you to use your own Pokemon.
Been playing Pokemon Yellow recently to get back into this series (and gaming in general, been in a rut) and I’ve used my copy of Stadium 2 to play on my TV with the awesome special border 😁. After I beat Yellow I’m gonna do the Gym Challenge of Stadium 1 and the same with 2 after I beat Silver

I remember as a kid going to my grandparent's house, they had an n64 (it was my uncle's) and my uncle would take me and my little brother to a rental store to rent n64 games for the weekend.. I remember spending nights playing pokemon stadium 1 and 2, Mario Party.. those were the days... I miss that 😢
For some reason PKMN stadium 2 goes great with a romhack of Pokemon Crystal Clear.
Also goes well with Pokemon Golden Goose version

I forgot how boring the stadium games were. That being not able to transferring Pokémon over from the GBC games.
I love a challenge trying to beat the gyms with rented Pokémon; fully evolved Pokémon with weak moves.
There is still hopes for the future we will get the GBC games on the switch.
Nintendo 64 came out the year I was born and I've been enjoying stadium 1 and 2 since I was a kid. Having said that I've never beat either of them, and it's time for me to fix that at 27 when the kids are asleep 😢😂
i would argue that the fun of a pokemon game is directly related to the amount of pokemon that inhabit the world. gen 8 and gen 9 removed several hundred pokemon so gen 7 with roughly 800 catchable pokemon is the best pokemon experience that was ever created, also its completely in 3D. you should check out ultra sun and moon if you didnt play it yet.

I loved the normal types like Tauros, Snorlax, Pideot
I played it as a kid and didn’t get far before my father sold it. Never had all of the parts to use my own Pokémon to play so I had to play through Stadium 1 & 2 with all rentals and that makes it so much more difficult. I bought a copy of Stadium 2 in college and it worked right up until the return window ended and it just stopped working. I can’t get the cartridge to boot so it’s likely a bad trace in it somewhere.
I got both Stadium and Stadium 2 on the N64 back in the day.
The stadium games were the reason why I got Pokemon GameBoy and Pokemon GameBoy Color games, just so I could train my own Pokemon up to using them in these games.

Pokemon Stadium and Stadium 2 rentals could have been better if you could also customize their moves.
I know that Nintendo wanted to force gamers into getting the GameBoy games, but with Switch Online forcing you to only choosing Rental Pokemon, you need to have the ability to choose the moves for each Pokemon.
I had an orthodontist that had n64's in the waiting room and the only game they had was Pokemon Stadium 2.

I strongly agree with you about the minigames. I really wish Nintendo would launch a 'Pokemon Party' game with gameplay centered around minigames (and not board-centric like Mario Party), featuring awesome Pokemon minigames.
Hope a new Pokémon stadium will be released with all the gimmicks from past games implemented.
This game is good. I lost my save data on Pokémon gold when the battery went. I had it replaced and I am replaying it on Stadium 2. It's a great experience, because there are plenty of things to do. Lots of distractions when I get tired of playing the heart of gold. Also it works well as a 1 player game. I think you do need the expansion pack on your N64 to get the best of it. Stadium 1 doesn't. And unlike the Colosseum you don't use the internet. The latter is what makes these old games the best. They stand alone.
These old pokemon games still hold up to this day i know the switch is in its own lane with the new gen games but they don't match up to the classic shit if i got to spend a couple of hundreds to get these old games back i will👌

I was just on the cusp of being old enough to still enjoy silver during study hall but I super missed the GBA era, and honestly most of the DS era, until I went back on a nostalgia kick but still never played the gba. but its funny how you can almost gauge peoples ages based on the GEN of Pokemon they missed.

It feels illegal to be able to experience this game with the gameboy games via expansion pak on n64 yet unable to on the switch 🤦♂️just Why?!
Both this and Pokemon stadium are on the switch virtual console. Which is great for me (because i missed out on both games seeing as that I didn't own an N64 until 2012 and even then i missed out on these games) but I am not going to play both games using the joy-cons. If I am going to play both Pokemon stadium 1&2 I'm going to figure out how to transfer my Pokemon onto the game and use the N64 controller to play the games the way they're supposed to be played.
It would be no problem technicaly to have that much animations in the main games. But that would make battles way too slow, we would need to wait until every Pokémon finishes its animation like here Those animations are not suited for the main games. Only for stadium where the focus is on battle visuals instead of overall rpg gameplay speed.

I always thought the same thing about slow down on PS1. Xenogears deathblows had horrible slowdown and I always that it was just for dramatic effect.

Own both stadium and stadium 2 for the og 64 and I love them. I beat red for the first time last year just so I could use them on stadium 1 and I’m almost done with gold so I can transfer them to stadium 2

The fun if this game is thr difficulty of the game. I wouldn't want to store my pokemon on a cartilage or use save states. Each time around really has you thinking.

Even with strategies it's hard. I love that. This is my replacement competitive for competitive pkmn for 1000 plus and IVs and ability changes.
