    Lucky man Andy. High five to the follower who passed them onto you. You mentioned your dad. I look forward to the day you can visit again & possibly take his new bike for a local ride. I’ve got my sons Zephyr kind of in storage whilst he’s bunkered down in Norway with his Viking shield maiden. I take it for a spin about once a month & then pretty well give all metal surfaces a spray with the old WD40 before covering it with old sheets. You’ve now given me the idea to pay a little more attention to those pipe studs. Cheers mate, hope all is well. Ups & downs here in Australia, but certainly not as dire as many countries. 👍🏍😷🇦🇺

    That is so cool that guy gave you his not required down pipes that is just fantastic news I am also happy as my sore throat was simply a virus was tested for covid 19 to be told negative stay safe. Always have wd 40 in my garage

    A spot of copper based anti-seize will keep those new to you, pipes in good wear and also help with future removal and helps with stress fractures from happening to the head studs. Just a thought.

    Hi Andy I had a 1st Gen fzs Fazer 1000 for 5yrs, fantastic bike but I needed to repair the down pipes as well . 4 of the studs give up the ghost but i did manage to drill and replace them thank god . Top videos keep them coming 👍👍

    I know the pain of removing exhaust studs from an old bike. Did it to my '99 VFR last year. We had to heat the block & weld testicles onto the studs to get them out. Thank god I have engineers for friends!

    nice bike! i have a gen 1 fz1 and I'm about to try wrapping it, thanks for all the tips. My headers are cracked as well, 1 tube ended up cracking all the way around and it started vibrating and sounding like garbage lol, i bought a used header off ebay for it.

    Mine need doing, and I'm bloody dreading it. Mine are in terrible shape, I allready know I will need a nut splitter, heat,drills, taps dies etc,mole grips. And a whole heap of patients.
    I just cant bring meself to get into it!!

    Garaged bikes are only good if they were kept maintained. Mine wasn't so despite relatively low mileage the owner had to replace the rear shock due to rust and generally the whole bike is just rust lol. It was cheap and ran properly though and that was what I needed at the time

      That sounds like a bit of a nightmare! Were there holes in the roof?! Cheap has it’s benefits too though! My FZS600 was a rotter when i got it! But 500 quid was to good to pass up!

    @ AndyManCam, do you have a picture of the crack on the original headers? also what caused the crack in the first place? I have never headers of OEM headers cracking ever.

    Great job, went really well. Andy, besides the rings, is exhaust paste necessary to create a gas seal when reinstalling the exhaust slop on or ok to just reinstall ? I only did an exhaust reinstall (full system on little Yamaha Sting) once after paint job many years ago and just reinstalled so was just wondering.

    You should re-torque those nuts after putting some miles on it, as it's aluminum the engine needs to be cold.

    My nuts were black and blue, but my stud nuts were rusted so much to the studs that the studs just came out without the nuts budging when I changed the Gaskets.

    Downpipes? Aren't those manifolds, technically speaking?
    Downpipes afaik are the manifolds that carry the exhaust fumes from a turbocharger to the cat. Curious to know if in british english this is different?

      Downpipes are manifolds. Turbo manifold, exhaust manifold, intake manifold, all manifolds! This particular manifold is made up of pipes, that go down. Downpipes. Also known as the collector or header pipes. Call them whatever you like. Many names, one thing.

    You lucky basterd haha, did this on my hornet a few months back and it was 3 days or cutting and drilling and re-tapping, nightmare! Did you put copper slip on the studs before reinstalling? I keep applying some in mine, every few months, for preventative maintenance.

      Ouch. Sorry to hear that! TBH i was expecting the same for this adventure! I’m so happy it didn’t go that way! I didn’t put any copper slip on the studs. I imagine that they get so hot, that anything would just be burnt off pretty quickly. I could be wrong though!

    I snapped 2 manifold studs. In my defence the studs where 22years old and about as solid as a wet paper bag 😂🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

    No way.... it was too easy! My own 06 FZ1 had 85k miles on when i was remowing pipes for a engine swap. Nuts didn't give up so easy. Plus flanges were paper thin from rust and crumbled im my fingers so i had to make new ones myself as they're impossible to buy without paying for whole downpipes assembly.
    Im green from jelousy watching that..
