Another great video...this is not an advertisement but since becoming a member of the channel after discovering Marty I have learned more and been playing guitar better (confirmed by comments from friends and family) than I have in my previous 42 years of life! Just watching a video, understanding more, getting inspired....and most importantly just having fun and not being scared to make mistakes. I know I sound like an advertisement, I do not mean to....just mean to compliment you Marty and thank you. Oh....and you cannot stop until you have done EVERY song in the Van Halen catalog!
Amazing man. I love hearing success stories and that players improve by watching my videos. It's a pleasure to share content and interact with you all. Keep jamming man and most of all, have fun! It's a wonderful time to be a guitarist. 😎🤟🏻
I'm 70, just got my first guitar (PRS SE) and you have just inspired me. Nice job!!! Next time add where one can acquire your lessons in written form so I may pause the lesson and study the transcription. Thanks.
It can be tricky. I initially had to start by tapping higher up the next and using smaller intervals. Just to get my fingers to allow the notes to ring out on the tapped note. You'll get it!
Marty were you in my t shirt drawer this morning haha nicely explained all the triad stuff makes sense it's easy to see Ed's approach thanks for a great lesson 🤘👍
Had a floyd rose type guitar once and just couldnt get it to tune like I could my others now you have me wanting to try one again thanks for your channel and the way you explain things
@garybrady9531 I had the same tuning issue at first also. I found that I was making more of it than it really was. Especially now, a Floyd is something that I personally look for in a guitar especially a higher end guitar. For me it's like buying a new Corvette with power windows and air conditioning. 😂 Does it have it? 🧐😎 I use the trem bar/whammy bar so much during my play. Since playing along to Marty's lessons I find myself Van Halenising everything that I play, even Gospel tunes when it fits. 😁 I've now got the tuning thing figured out, no sweat.
I just did a lesson with my guitar teacher today and learned how to play hot for teacher and Jamie’s crying riff today. Had great time learning Eddie’s taping techniques .😎🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dude this is like the best lesson I’ve watched as far as just seeing what I want. I’m not really trying to learn his songs, just incorporate some of his techniques and this was really helpful.
Great lesson Marty! So here’s some terminology I’ve struggled with for years … Don’t know if I’m the only one, but when guitar instructors refer to going up the neck, my head immediately thinks going towards the neck. Likewise going down, my head thinks going toward the bridge … Just seems natural as you hold up the guitar to me; the neck is at the “top”, bridge at the “bottom”. So at 9:29 when you said “… he’ll ascend, meaning go up or descend …”, it blew my mind Lol! 🤯Thanks for your lessons Bro!
Thanks man, glad you liked it. One way to keep the terminology straight is higher notes are higher on a music staff so it's like ascending a staircase. So the higher up the neck that is ascending. 😎🍺
Excellent lesson, thanks for doing this. Glad I finally got to check it out. I'm in Ohio and tornadoes ripped through our area. Had no power for a couple of days. Where there's no electricity, there's no electric guitars. Was my wife's birthday, so we partied like it was 1885. Lol luckily no one was hurt and our house was untouched.
Thanks again man. I'm learning so much from these lessons. By the way, I just found a video on UA-cam of The Monsters of Rock Festival Castle Donington 1984 EVH full concert there taken from the stage. In my opinion that's when they were at their best. My brother was also there that year. It was a brilliant line up.
Very cool man. Glad to hear you're learning from the videos! I saw that concert on UA-cam. Great show! I love the footage and seeing stuff never broadcast before. 🤟🏻😎🤟🏻
@Ranch5150SkinWalker I was just having breakfast this morning when this story popped up. I don't know if you know about this but kramer are working with Eddie's Luther Jim Decola to create Eddie's 80s sound through Kramers eruption humbucker.
MARTY5150, do a TY lesson about the Van Halen sounds that EVH uses a bunch of Dyads 2 note intervals. Instead of using barre chords or open chords, EVH would play separated dyads jumping around.
Amazing marty! Your videos have helped me a lot, you are the only one who teaches van halen in a didactic way and makes it seem possible. I would like to take classes with you, but I'm from Brazil. Is there a way to get your tablatures? thank you very much
Great lesson as usual, but your voice volume has been low for the last few videos though. Intentional? Technical difficulty? Also I'd LOVE a cathedral lesson!
Hey Marty, since your are a fellow EVH fan I thought you could help me out with a gear question. I’m looking for a mid range quality (500-1k) guitar that can really get out the Evh brown sound. I currently play on a fender strat but the single coils just don’t work like humbuckers. I’m also left handed so finding guitars is real tough. Any suggestions? Thanks! Love the content
@tikitaka128 I'm not at all trying to speak for Marty here but I have a possible idea for you. Check out the left handed EVH Striped Series. To get under $1,000 you may need to go used though. I got a brand new Striped Series from a local mom and pop shop with hardshell EVH case,, EVH strap included $1,200 out the door. She wanted the sale, I negotiated. Owner also had a used one there for $899. But I wanted a new one to call my own. The guitar has that sound/tone, but a lot of the sound is also in our fingers too. 😎🎸👍🏻 Good luck

Thanks for this man. I’ve almost got the finger speed down but I’m having trouble making the tapped note ring out. Gotta practice!

Thanks for the lesson Marty. Lots of stretching and finger timing practice to tap like King Edward
Yeh, it's tough in the hands!! But it gets easier as you go. 😄☮️

Thank you again Marty and God bless😎
You're welcome! 😁☮️
I never knew the theory behind this..just started theory about 3yrs ago..best thing I've done for guitar....thanks man..👍

That is awesome!
Yeah I played it on my purple Kramer Baretta special . In the spirit of Eddie 🤘🏻🤘🏻.
Hey Marty. Thanks for teaching me how to tap EVH style! One of my favorite videos of yours. Rock On buddy!!

@@Ranch5150SkinWalker Thank you, everything is good. 😁👍🏻
Cool. Of course i know all of this stuff, and yet i can't help listening to someone like you talking about it. I guess that's how much we love Eddie ❤
I'm the same way 😂😂😂. Have you by chance heard the Dweezil Zappa runnin with the Dweezil podcasts? They're awesome.

@@bmac5085 I saw that! A friend (Skipper) sent an article. Very interesting.
@@Ranch5150SkinWalker how is Skipper?
@@bmac5085 still in a rehab facility. Trying to get well enough to go home and walk around/take care of himself. Slow roll.
Thanxxxx Marty for the EVH vids much appreciated

Thanks! Marty 😊 I seen an old video of a guy tapping from the 60s vox syn ad i believe?? 😊
Hmmm interesting! I may have seen that 🤷
Do a Cathedral lesson!
Ok 😎🎵

Thanks man!! Just the airport 😂😂
Awesome tapping 😊

Hey man! Wolfgang WH standards are great for the money. Also the Kramer 1984 reissues. Or Barreta. They're in the 600-900 range! 😎🤟🏻
😔I'm deeply shocked, just found out 😢🙏🕯️🙏RIP EVH

Nobody can play like Eddie
True. Often imitated never duplicated !
Yeah, I thought Eddies tapping speed was impressive, Until I saw Tina S. .
But I can still appreciate Dimond David Lee Roth.
