16:20 The tradition of drinking alcohol when crossing the equator on a sailboat is part of a maritime initiation ceremony known as the "Crossing the Line" ceremony or the "Neptune Ceremony." The ceremony is rooted in maritime folklore and has been a part of naval and maritime cultures for centuries. It is typically a lighthearted and theatrical event that involves experienced sailors (often dressed up as King Neptune and his court) "initiating" the sailors who are crossing the equator for the first time.

From another Garrett, wish you luck on this journey. Excited to see the future journeys!
Dude, you're awesome. I enjoy your nonchalant reactions to things that go wrong or could've gone better, awesome attitude.
Man I love the adventures on an old salty seadog and have been looking to expand. I definitely found my next channel to follow. My plan is to do this when I retire in 25 years like most people. It's so cool you are doing this at 19 instead of waiting until you're in your upper years!
I would love to do this. I'm thirty seven and would really need to get into sailing soon.
Man that tuna is looking amazing fresh as fresh can be you'll not get fresher than that
Can’t wait 😛 for the next episode 😊! Amazed vlog Garrett and thanks 🙏 for sharing all your thoughts along the journey. Hoping you get steady wind 💨 and make it to French Polynesia 🇵🇫safely.
I loved this video so much! So peacefull and cool too watch!
Great video snd what an adventure you're on! Keep up with your mental state , its crucial when alone on the ocean. Got you in my prayers for a great journey!
Watching this stuff is good for my soul.
Tip, make sure you REALLY keep track of each thing needing fixing or replacing. One dangerous habit is to think you’ll remember it all. You likely won’t. And a small issue now can be a huge issue later.
Very true. Should definately write everything down! Hopefully he does this.
Its not only that . There many factors he couldnt even control with that type of boat lets be honest. If he already has problems cause water comes into the cabin well ... imagine at night a big wave would literally flood the cabin (what can happen pretty fast specially if you only put towels for sealing). Idk i guess I just have huge respect of the sea specially since I lost people I was working with .
I could’ve controlled that. Dumb mistake on my part. People much wiser than I told me to make a dodger and I didn’t

I’m 31 years old this kid is 19 I hope he knows how brave and amazing he is for doing this. And how much this is going to help him with life in general. I can’t imagine being in the sea all alone for days on end
In general, Way easier to do things like this at 19 than 31

loved that you shared this experience, I´ve never seen or heard of a similar experience, and your way of reacting to unexpected situations is pretty much unbothered which is fun, really proud and glad that you were brave enough to experience something like that. safe trip and hope you have a great life 🙂
