    As cool as the extra features are on this device, I think the Carby is the best of the GC HDMI adapters. Half the price, can connect to a Panasonic Q, and has a chrome-plated input that is snug but doesn't make you feel like you're gonna break anything. Very high quality and I really enjoy it.

    I purchased my OSSC last week and I’ve been using it for my Sega Genesis for a week now. The first time when I saw the OSSC’s picture quality, my heart stopped, I cried of joy the first time I saw that beautiful Sega logo looking fresh. I have to admit, that is the most beautiful picture I have ever seen from my Sega Genesis, a huge step up from composite cables if you ask me, so I immediately fell in love with it. I can finally play my childhood Genesis games in high definition, and I highly recommend to keep the picture in 4:3 for the best results. I love my OSSC so much, have zero complaints. However, the only complaint I have with it is at least in my opinion, I wasn’t too happy with the exterior of the OSSC, so I styled it with my emoji sparkling hearts and bow tie stickers and now she looks beautiful and stylish. Here’s a picture of my OSSC, tell me if she looks gorgeous.

    The purpose of the Wii component port is also to run the GCHD through a scaler like the XRGB or OSSC , which should clean up and upscale the image even better, and also solve any 240p/480i compatibility issues with the display.
    The end result is quite nice.

    • @YungVegangsta

      Is that confirmed on 240p? That's the reason I want to buy the MkII. I would like to force 240p with Swiss for the Game Boy Interface and run the wii component cable to my Framemeister for upscaling. That is what I was hoping Adam would touch on in this video. It would be a far cheaper solution than the original GC component cables.

    I need these guys to produce one with a built in line doubler for the Dreamcast! Tap into the RGB SCART line for color when 480p is not supported. This is a great option for GC owners!

  • @The-Fishkeeper

    Another big benefit of supporting Wii component or SCART cables is that you can hook it up to an OSSC and line double the 480p content which I've heard looks amazing.

    Out of curiosity, have you heard of the mod Swiss? You can run it via an action replay disc and an sd card to memory slot adapter. You can use it to force 480p on games that didn’t have an inbuilt option to.

    I bought the Monster brand Nintendo Gamecube _S-video_ cable back when it was only $20 … the component cable back when it was only double digits (*$98 USD* shipped from Japan, but still) … I did get the GCVideo plug'n'play, but it's the same version MetalJesusRocks had that caused his console to short circuit, so I'm too scared to use it … I like this mark-II seeing as it actually uses the analog port instead of using it as a dummy plug

    There is one other feature that you didn't mention. Apparently, the GCHD II restores RGB SCART compatibility to NTSC consoles and S-video compatibility to PAL consoles. If your using a NTSC GameCube, you can plug in a Wii SCART cable and it will convert the digital signal to RGB. Or so I've read. I assume if you are using a PAL console it will just passthrough the native RGB signal.

    What bothers me most about this is that after visiting their site, I've noticed they still haven't reduced the price on the original model... That makes no sense to me, you'd think they'd want to clear out stock and give people a reason not only to buy the original, but give them a difference between the two that's notable. Unless you really wanted to play it with the Q, I can't imagine why someone would pay for the original model when there's 3 options for the MKII.
    Regardless, great video as usual Adam. :D Just kinda bummed Castlemania didn't think about that. Supply and demand, it's how people like @Soulcommander and myself would want to become interested. New tech comes out, the old tech goes down in price, and the cycle continues. XP

    Did you hear about the Wii Dual mod? It is made by the guy who made the GCHD MKII and makes Wii and GameCube games look as good as the GameCube with the GCHD. With modifications, you can make a Wii that plays Wii games, GameCube games, DVDs, ISOs, other emulators, and without the sensor bar if you don’t want to use it.

I paid $200 for my internal GCVideo HDMI mod. $200 for my internal Original 2001 XBOX HDMI mod (it's direct digital video out from the OG XBOX's video encoder. It's not an internal component to HDMI box), and $330 for my Dreamcast HDMI mod (DCHDMI). You get what you pay for and if you penny pinch you're gonna pay later. Ask Pound to make another crappy GameCube HDMI cable with cheap converters if you only want to pay $30 or $40.

It's not about getting by cheap, it's about what it's worth to you. It sounds to me like all you're doing here is boasting about your mods. LOL. 30 or 40 bucks would be a fair price and I know darn well the components used do not cost that much. I have had Chinese marketers contact me on other devices the more you buy the cheaper they are. If you want to blame somebody for the cost blame the Chinese because they are reaping a harvest off of America. Last of all we'll all be laughing at you when your GameCube or Xbox blows a capacitor and is rendered useless. Nothing lasts forever buddy.

    You can also use Swiss to force games into 480p. I have a PAL GC and use Swiss to force games into 480p when using the Carby. It doesn’t work on all games, but has a high success rate. This is probably more applicable to PAL users since PAL software has the 480p code stripped out.

    Watched Adam's videos for a long time. Original hardware, pickups and ad on's are cool to look at. As far as gamecube goes for me the ultimate way is dolphin on PC. Esp if you are lucky enough to have a good rig. Playing Twin Snakes at 4K 60 is really incredible and you can still use the OG GC controller. I cant wait for the day OG xbox gets proper emulation, same for PS3 and the 360. Console collecting really is a lifestyle and for me it is beyond what i would be willing to invest, by the time you buy the console, implement the mods, buy the right upscalers/hd output converts etc you could have bought several high end PC's that baring one or two games perform so much better. Hell BOTW emulation on PC is something special and, with that point i'd love to see Adam do something along these lines esp as he has a huge game collection so emulation comparisons alongside the OG hardware because eventually one day will come when OG hardware is so scare, or so expensive that the only way to play will be emulation.
    peace x

  • @SheepHairOG
    @SheepHairOG 5 років тому

    So he kind of touched on this in the video, but I want to give a more detailed explanation of one of the possible uses the GCHD Mk-II has over the original. This device is marked very heavily towards competitive Super Smash Bros. Melee players. EON Gaming even partnered with the best Melee player in the world to advertise it. The reason this device is so good for competitive Melee, is because Melee players are very picky. When it comes to input lag, CRTs have the lowest of any display ever, and most Melee players refuse to use anything but CRTs because of this. Using an HDMI cable with the GCHD allows you to connect a GameCube to a high quality gaming monitor, which actually only introduces about 2ms more delay than a CRT. Yes, 2ms is practically unnoticeable, but the fact that the GCHD is very expensive prevents most players from caring enough to use it over a CRT. So the added features now kind of re-purpose the GCHD in the competitive Melee scene. Instead of using the HDMI port to send the signal to a monitor, it's plugged into a capture card to record the highest quality of gameplay possible when live streaming, while the Wii component port allows for higher video quality for the competitors while still letting them play on a CRT for the least amount of input lag possible. And yes people still play Melee competitively despite Nintendo having released 3 more games in the franchise, but that's a whole different discussion.

    Dude, 480i and 480p are both the same resolution. There's not that much of a difference. Just like both 1080i and 1080p being the same resolution. So why does interlace and progressive scan matter?

    • @AdamKoralik
      @AdamKoralik  5 років тому +2

      That's objectively wrong. Interlaced images have half the image at a time and constantly swap, producing a jaggy line effect. Progressive scan is a full image at all times, hence cleaner image.

    I'm surprised that a company like Nintendo just gave up on their older retro consoles by not offering HD support for their own retro consoles in this newer age of TV technology. Nintendo just gave up on an entire division of their business that they could have added to their own business model in which Nintendo should be reaping the rewards and they are just letting these 3rd party corporations enhance their own retro consoles by coming out with their own product lines. I see that as being bad for Nintendo because all they want to concentrate on is their current mainstream console, (The Switch) and it's games only. I believe that is a horrible business decision and Nintendo is being lazy. However Nintendo is not alone. Sega, Sony, and even Xbox are all in the same boat as Nintendo when it comes to enhancing their older retro consoles to play on newer HD TV's. Why let a 3rd party company come in to do their work and clean up their mess when they can add to their bottom line? Who is at the helm of these companies? Nintendo needed retro support for their older consoles a long time ago, we can see that they did not have a successful plan compared to what could have been. It's not like all these older Nintendo consoles and games are hitting the dumpsters en masse, quite the contrary.
    Noting that Nintendo could have supported the NES, SNES, N64, and Gamecube consoles sooner with HDMI cables and name brand wireless controllers with respect to the Wavebird, they easily passed up on $350,000,000 or more on potential worldwide sales to improve on what they already had established in the market. They already have established contracts with major retailers, what's a little bit more shelve space when they have the kiosks at the big box stores.
    A 3rd party company should try to make a HD cable for the Gamecube consoles that only have the "Analog AV Out" port on the back of those consoles. Nintendo is not going to do it.

      Then the Carby HDMI adapter by Insurrection Industries is the one for you. Costs half as much at $75 and delivers equally good image quality (it uses the same firmware), but only connects to the digital AV port and doesn't have any of the fancy bells and whistles of the GCHD Mk-II. The Carby does come with its own remote control though.

      I think this comment comes from the Digital Foundry video where the tests suggested the MCable resulted in less lag compared to a standard HDMI cable, but that didn’t seem to make sense to Tom (I think it was) in the video. The standard HDMI cable he compared it to may have been of poor quality; I too wouldn’t expect the MCable to actually be faster (considering it has to process the image then upscale it), but most accounts I’ve read suggest it’s very good at what it does (for a price).

    I gotta be honest Adam with the GCHD II adapter the progressive scan compatible games look and sound really good. Comparable to the component cables and optical output I normally have for the Cube (I managed somehow to pick up the component cables randomly at a Target in Bourbonnais IL back in the day - not online) but the non progressive scan games look like shit. I just booted up a whole bunch of games with the adapter and Killer 7 is awful. Would much rather have the component cables for that. Cheaper plastic, ENIG contacts, board design is improper, digital port connector is some crappy mushy nylon, they botched the multiout connector, and many more things. Nero Raul Downside is the mCable stretches the image to 16:9 but most TVs can correct this. I mentioned to them about this issue and they said they’re in the tinkering stage (mClassic) so it still may be possible to maintain 4:3 so those who capture gameplay can have the correct aspect ratio. We’ll have to wait and see if they add the functionality or not. I’ve been using the mCable on an original Xbox with the Pound Link adapter and the difference is night and day. I couldn’t believe how much better it is.
