Passion, this is the only way to play, all in! It's a beautiful thing. He's got taste, and at this moment, this is how he had to play. I miss playing like that.
Dave Elitch is hands down one of the best new drummers today. His technique is flawless and he is playing with tons of taste and passion. I've personally learned a ton from him.
All you haters saying he's playing "too hard". Do ya not realize he is feeding off of the crowd goin apeshit and his lead singer throwin his symbol across the stage. It's called goin with the flow during a kick ass concert. His energy is what makes this song. Freakin epic
Dave Elitch is one of the best drummers I've ever seem! Great inspiration! I've been a Metal drummer my whole life, this guy with Carter Beauford changed everything... I watch their videos before lock myself into to my drum room everyday!
This is the most impressive thing I've seen from Dave. I felt the beginning lacked a lot of flare from the recorded version but it seems like he just wanted to get the skeleton of the groove going without all the frilly fills and constant attack but once he got going and laid into the kit, I was shocked and very pleased. Started to look like Jon Theodore for a while which is a good thing except Jon would've been stomping 16th's on the hi-hat the whole time though lol
They probably say that because they are comparing him to Thomas Pridgen, however Dave is absolutely brilliant and deserves his only place in rock history as one of the many greats right along side Thomas 👍
John Theodore > Dave Elitch > Prigden. Prigden is techincally good (they all are) but he didnt have any idea how to make percussion fit into a song like Theodore did and Elitch does.
i have this video in favorites...and can get to see enough of it!!! it is extremely awsome how his man can actually rip the drums and his self on this performance....Gali you are simply the kind of drummer i dream to be!!! tripping, rocking and teaching at he same time!!!
I seriously believe this is in the top ten displays of drumming prowess. He puts so much energy into the performance that he almost has to lie down at the end. That's pure genius and insanity.
How can you not love Cedric.. He may not always deliver a flawless vocal perfomance, but whatever he lacks in vocal skills he more than makes up for it in sheer energy and random crazy behavior. Just like at 4:00 where he smashes dave's crash, and later where he just takes. What a man
the way this was recorded made me so excited!! I think that echo and the screaming you hear at festivals is one of the best sounds you could ever hear!! Soooo nostalgic...
Funny how everyone is talking about how hard this hits, and how he's wasting his kit, and blah, blah, blah..Get over yourselves. This gig called for him to play that way. His employers, Mars Volta WANTED it. And as far as his gear goes, he's endorsed by DW. I'm sure John Goode over at DW can replace any gear he needs replacing. Not to mention DW makes some pretty durable gear. Especially their hardware..
He's playing a stadium. It almost makes more sense to play hard. Really he's making it look really big but he's not breaking anything anyways... Idk...
Yes indeed, it's very very hard to break parts of the drumkit. Cymbals break when they're mounted to tight, skins tear when tensioned unevenly (or too tight as well), or beaten with broken drumsticks repeatedly . Given that this doesn't apply on such a serious gig with proper gear and a skilled drummer, The only thing that will break every now and then is the simple drumstick.
Must be hard being a Mars Volta drummer. No matter how good you are or how much training, there's an army of dedicated 'fans' who'll shit all over you out of contempt.
dude. Dave is my old drum teacher. he is fucking amazing. he sheds with some of the best drummers around. no hating on this man. ps the fro is due to his jewish heritage and no other reason. haha. not to mention it completely fits the look of TMV as everyone knows. have a good day everyone!
I like the entire front row. no energy, no emotion, just jaw drops. such a good band, I've never seen them live at all; but if I did I'd imagine i'd look exactly like everyone in the front row does right now.
cool, i have never seen this dude get any love. personally i think jon theodore was without a doubt the best drummer they ever had, but it's cool to see a video with mars and dave.
People need to get over the fact that JP is not in the band anymore... Jesus christ... Yes he was an amazing drummer but with every new drummer comes a new sound to the band. JP gave us amazing work, TP gave great work and whoever comes next will bring amazing work too. Anyways, this dude is rockin it. I like it. Cedric of course being awesome and climbing onto stuff haha. Gotta love him. Pissed they didn't come to Arizona this year though!
Was there. In the crowd... My teacher who was backstage all day (lucky git) met him, said he was an awesome guy as well. Was a fucking sweet BDO, not bothering anymore.
Ok Dave and Thomas have been good friends for years so trying to pit them against each other is pretty funny. Shows what you know. Dave is an unreal percussionist. Look at his previous work too. It's so diverse and has so much range it's crazy. Lastly he's one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. Even if you talked shit like you know what you're talking about been though you don't. I'm fuck in proud to call Dave my friend.
Looks like the rest of the bands really into this session...especially compared to previous shows with dave. Gotta give Dave some credit for his effort and passion.
I was wondering when this guy would fall of his chair, and when the climax hit I just got excited, nice drummer, really feeling the band, different style, but awesome
I see lots of comment with comparasion between Pridgen and Elitch, but i hope you people or you know that the original drummer and the best of the 3 was Jon Theodore, who did the 3 first album of the band, wich are the best. I love Elitch style and for me Pridgen did too much in live video is not in time alot of times but he is a good drummer.
When Jon left TMV the majority weren't a fan of Thomas and said he had to be more like Jon. When Thomas left, now everybody's saying that Thomas is better than Dave, and Dave should be more like Thomas!!!!! Hell, they're all fantastic drummers, in my mind!
All of these people judging this man...sad. Thomas is a hard act to follow, everyone knows the caliber he plays. Dave had the balls to jump right in and by the looks of this video he fucking kills it in his own style. Who cares if he is hitting hard? If I were playing with TMV I'de be hitting the fuck out of my drums too. If he were in any other band and you didn't have Thomas to compare him too you would all be talking about how great he is.
Elitch is a great drummer. I saw him a couple of years ago & I knew then. Incredible. The same with Pridgen. They are both cold drummers. Theodore is great, too. They all brought (bring) something a little different to the table. As long as it sounds good & they're not totally destroying the song I don't see what the problem is. That stuff isn't easy to play. They all must've been doing something right.
I'm 100% positive that if he really wanted to, he could play like either of them with some practice and actually sound like the albums. But who cares? Omar and Cedric have both said that they don't want to sound exactly the same live as the do on the album. The Mars Volta is a band based on experimenting with different things. Isn't kind of sad that some of their fans are so closed-minded?
And I thought I´m playin´ drums hard... LOL! It´s such pleasure to watch him play! It´s pity he didn´t recorded an album with Mars Volta, he´s one of my fav drummers and TMV is one of my fav bands... Dave rules!!!
I love it at the end of all, when he drops the sticks and his body over the snare drum, trying to recover his breath. I bet he was thinking: "okay, man, you just delivered the best fucking drum show of your life. Now keep playing".
i just see a lot of wankers calling him bad while they sit at a computer..and..while he's playing in front of a crowd of thousands. yeah. that's all really.
Tim ferriss brought me here... Not disappointed either!
Passion, this is the only way to play, all in! It's a beautiful thing. He's got taste, and at this moment, this is how he had to play. I miss playing like that.
Yep, brought me here, too...this dude is sick...not a wasted click at all!! #beastmodedrumming
Same here😀
Who is that and Why did he point you here?
This is what rock drumming is supposed to look like, bravo 👏
I thought this was what Painting on Public Access Television was supposed to look like
That was insane. Guy plays with so
much power
Dave Elitch is hands down one of the best new drummers today. His technique is flawless and he is playing with tons of taste and passion. I've personally learned a ton from him.
but what's the Delitch, Dave Elitch?
I wish he would show a little enthusiasm.
Hahahaha
1:23 making me laugh so much
@@bisoff omfkg lmaol
LOL right
too pro
All you haters saying he's playing "too hard". Do ya not realize he is feeding off of the crowd goin apeshit and his lead singer throwin his symbol across the stage. It's called goin with the flow during a kick ass concert. His energy is what makes this song. Freakin epic
These mfers dont know that music isn't about doing everything correctly. So sick of seeing people critizise
Dave Elitch is one of the best drummers I've ever seem! Great inspiration! I've been a Metal drummer my whole life, this guy with Carter Beauford changed everything... I watch their videos before lock myself into to my drum room everyday!
Watch some flo from cryptopsy
Betto!
Just watching Dave drum makes me so happy.
He has the most beautiful drum sound ever.
I don't care what you guys say, this guy is absolutely outstanding! - serious energy and skill in this set. I like his style! He Rocks, Hard!
Their is no word in the English language to describe how insane his drumming is! Mars volta for life!
Lol…what? I mean I Fucking love it but uhhh I mean it’s not THAT insane…they didn’t even hire him full time cause there’s better guys 😂😂😂
@Doyouevenart69 11 years in retrospective now, i agree its mid
This is the most impressive thing I've seen from Dave. I don't get why people think Dave sucks… Like how is that even possible?
They probably say that because they are comparing him to Thomas Pridgen, however Dave is absolutely brilliant and deserves his only place in rock history as one of the many greats right along side Thomas 👍
@@jimmyjames7809 cant help but notice you left out Jon Theodore
@@taylorcate8455 yeah I cant help but notice that either. Jon Theodore was the original and the best drummer for the mars Volta in my opinion.
John Theodore > Dave Elitch > Prigden.
Prigden is techincally good (they all are) but he didnt have any idea how to make percussion fit into a song like Theodore did and Elitch does.
That's Absurd for anyone to think that, the man is a magnificent drummer
Honestly my favorite drummer for this particular song, hands down 👏
far out, this man plays hard. look how much his hihats sway when he hits them. that snare sounds amazing too. it really sings out. so resonant!
The enthusiasm from Dave here is infectious.. that's how i want a drummer to be
By far one of the most POWERFUL drum performances ive ever seen !
Great song!Great drummer!I remember Omar and his friend before they were Mars Volta .Brilliant guys

He is a monster! Ive never seen someone put that much into one song! .... He looked dead at the end. He will be one of the greats in my opinion.
Everyone has the same hair xD
I seriously believe this is in the top ten displays of drumming prowess. He puts so much energy into the performance that he almost has to lie down at the end. That's pure genius and insanity.

Still get chills seeing this after 2 years.
dude is sick, dont hate because he is playing to the music instead of over it like some people did.
the way this was recorded made me so excited!!
I think that echo and the screaming you hear at festivals is one of the best sounds you could ever hear!! Soooo nostalgic...
This guy has come a long way. I really enjoyed watching this!
I love that the moment it's done he just collapses knackered, I have a tonne of respect for Elitch that was an awesome watch
That pocket is just amazing! It just pleases the ears!

well put.
i just broke my hand watching how high and hard he comes down on that snare. not even kidding. im at the hospital right now. that hard.
Dave "hey can I get my cymbal back?" Elitch
despite dave and his drumming, this video shows why cedric is One of the best front men/dancers of all time
what a drummer!!!! what a band!!!!mars volta!!!....

The power behind those snare hits

Such a joy to watch
This dude and Eloy make me want to slug for my dear life. Then 8 bars later I have to quit because I’m not built for that life.
MINDBLOWING
well, he allows us to hear the rest of the band, thumbs up for that, farewell pridgen
cool, i have never seen this dude get any love. personally i think jon theodore was without a doubt the best drummer they ever had, but it's cool to see a video with mars and dave.
This guys got fantastic chops! Look at those ghost notes with his left hand!!
not really into nthe band but the drummer is mad mental and his skills and enthusiasm sold it for me. cool.

He feels the rhythm, that's part of being in a band..
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! So much power and sweet touch. I love this.
Completely killed it! Love the energy!
It's totally awesome to see Cedric and Omar getting into it with Dave from around 3:45 to the six minute mark. That's what it's all about.
love it, he brings a groove that is nonexistent when thomas plays in my opinion
@YouthDrummer Yes! Finally someone else who says this!
He fits just like a glove.
This makes me happy.
For Mars, this IS THE BEST DRUMMER IN THE WORLD.
Jimi lit his guitar on fire. The instrument is a tool for the artist. This guy is Jackson Pollock, throwing paint around with a visceral intensity.
Snare sounds EPIC
just close ur eyes... excellent timing and dynamic still!! hes amazing!!

Another great drummer for TMV...can't wait to hear what he does on a new album.
Methinks the band and its new drummer have finally become one :)
hi from 2022. after 6 minutes into the video I realized I'm sitting with a stank face all this time :D this guy was and IS great

And the best thing with this man and Theodor in my opinon, is that both are using ONE pedal. Thomas have Double pedal.
And also, this guy is amazing. Quit making it seem like Thomas was a god. Obviously, TMV knew what they were doing when they hired this guy.
he has such good technique.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you the Bob Ross of drumming...not only is he an artist at what he does...he has the afro too!
Love this song! Anyone else watching cause of Bill Burr's podcast?
which episode was it?

I miss Thomas!!! Dave is pretty good, I think I was just spoiled by Pridgen. I'd really love to see Jon reunite with them
This is back in 09 (I think) - Thomas left (or was made to leave) the band a few years ago. The current drummer is called Deantoni Parks
And I thought I´m playin´ drums hard... LOL!
It´s such pleasure to watch him play! It´s pity he didn´t recorded an album with Mars Volta, he´s one of my fav drummers and TMV is one of my fav bands...
Dave rules!!!
yeah chk out Tim Ferriss podcast with Dave Elitch Drummer - Artist very cool guy ...found out he is actually a very chilled dude
HOLY SHIT THAT DUDE IS AMAZING!
he kicking that bass for real :)
Awesome!!!
I love it at the end of all, when he drops the sticks and his body over the snare drum, trying to recover his breath. I bet he was thinking: "okay, man, you just delivered the best fucking drum show of your life. Now keep playing".

Holy shit! This guys kicks ass. He is beating the shit out of that kit. Love it.
