That LT70 sure would look nice in my shed. Would be a nice replacement of our LT40 manual. Operator needs to take the cover off that de-barker though before he toasts the motor!
I recently watched a portable, home fabricated mill sourced from of a couple Laidlaw 60 inch throat band saws. It was run by a large, electrically driven 3 phase hydraulic power unit, obtained at a government auction. A very clever Mennonite fellow and his neighbor, an engineer with Shopvac of all places made it last Winter. It has a stationary head-saw with a tailing table and double action edgers. The Headsaw has what I have heard called a "shotgun feed" (I think it's called that because it cuts in each direction of travel.) It's accurate, fast and safe. Everything most home made mills are not. They built the whole shebang for under 15 grand.
I traded my four post head mill for a woodmizer two years ago, and will never go back to the four post head. You have to babysit the four post mill to make sure it stays level the entire length of the mill, if not it will cut inaccurate lumber every time. The cantilever design does not depend on the deck being perfectly level or being level at all. The head movement of a cantilever is never an issue while cutting. My woodmizer is the far better than my old Timberking. Not even close.
Serious question : What model TK did you trade for what model WM ? In all honesty, you are the first person that I have ever heard of, that actually traded a welded 4 post system for a cantilever system. But, there again, to each his own.
Watching this video I couldn't help but wonder how accurate the lumber was coming off the woodmizer because the head is wobbling and bouncing. The other mill appears to be much more stable, I think it's a Baker Mill.
the BAKER CREW were apparently still green. They threw the race. Baker mill should be cutting alot faster. But 6 months down it will need repairs. Wood-Mizer is a superior machine in my view. Baker design still needs alot of work.
I was at this show. Yes the baker should be cutting faster. The Sawyer didn't run it as fast as he does his own. But at the 2015 and 2017 the baker team won with the same Sawyer. The Baker sawmill needs nothing to improve on. It weighs 10,000lbs, doesn't bounce or even move when loading or turning a log.
All I know is Timber king is never at any of these shows. Sales reps say they don't want to waste the money, but the professional sawyers I know say they can't compete. I can't stand the way the Timber King videos focus on knocking their competition. Seems like they are afraid of their competition,,,, so afraid they won't put their mills side by side with others.
What was the cost per setup , one woodmiser had an edger , the other pop up take away chains . Total cost for each unit to make a finished 4 sided product , my guess is the perterson or lucus would cost about 1/10th the cost of either woodmiser units , when you include the edger to edge the slabs you don't have an apple to apple comparison . Top of the line woodmiser against a bargin priced perterson . Bet woodmiser paid for this video
Nope, I as an individual made the video myself. Clearly though, Woodmizer bandmills are much more efficient and not as wasteful as the Peterson and Lucas mill.
Did you have a Mobile Dimension sawmill in your contest?
I have a LT28 and its cut great. I have cut oak, white ash, hard maple and locust. I have had no problems and its very accurate.
Why doesn't cook's have one of their units in this competition?
The rest are probably scared.

I'd really like to see a mobile dimension mill in one of these shows
Is this a advertisement for woodmizer
No sir! I'm just a Woodmizer customer which means I'm a big Woodmizer fan! I didn't get a single penny from anyone for my videos.

I set up my mill with a four post head four years ago and have not had to relevel it. Just have to make sure the jacks are on a good foudation.

That was a let down...why didn't they post the results at the end? That was a waste of time!
The LT70 produced 1,360 board ft per hr. The LT40 produced just over 1,000 per hr.
It is sponsored by sawmill and Woodlot magazine. They have a write up on each mill if you look up the article.
I hope don't charge admin .....?

You have that backward, the WM will breaking down a LOT more than a Baker.

Hey Richard, is it true that you own a Baker mill now rather than WM junk
Is it nice to saw all day rather than fixing your WM
and the price goes to, ops i mean the prize goes too
The Baker is clearly the better saw the wood mizer could not cut a square cant if Jesus was running it
