Just purchased a Wood-Mizer mill.. Looked at several different mills and watched a ton of videos with sawing and pros and cons of several mills and ended up back at Wood-Mizer...
The prices are probably higher now as this video is a few years old. They’re hoping to have another open house soon. I’ll definitely film it if they do.
Great video. Thanks for sharing. I have an LT15GO. Was impressed with all of the mills. Looked like they were pushing them to get through the logs super fast. The splitter looked like a lot of work.

Thats the Woodmizer facility in Troutdale Oregon, same place I bought my LT15, was just there 2 weeks ago. LOL. I only live about 40 miles away, so was my closest location. Super friendly people there!
Thanks for the great how to and around the homestead project videos! weird how its fun to sit back and relax by watching someone else run a mill or an excavator for a change! thanks again!
Thanx for recording this real world video. It wasn't WM edited, so we got to see some of the inherent problems with the perfect mills. The LT 70 drag back ending up with the flitch hung up on top of the debarker. And I'll echo the sentiment on the inefficiency of the splitters!
Cool Stuff. There is always the guy with the aluminum hardhat and suspenders, Telling everybody " I've so hard my whole life I helped build the cabin I was born in"
I noticed him too. I don't think he was even a part of the Wood Mizer crew yet wanted to be in every shot. Theres one in every crowd...sometimes two ;)
As a matter fact I’ve never seen anybody where aluminum hardhats except an old movies I’ve only seen the cow barn little plastic ones like we got today like the guy with the orange one on
You stupid fuck. No wonder you haven't seen anyone do it in power plants because they never did. Each group has there on style hard hat, miners, rig hands etc, the aluminum hard hat was big in the logging industry and still is to this day, it's just something they prefer. jesus some people these days..
All the best to the boys in Portland. Bought my first saw there in 91. Packed it up and sent it to New Zealand. Very impressed with Multnoma falls up the road a bit from there. May have spelt that wrong..
Thanks for taking us along, I couldn’t make it from Michigan..we should owe you for meals. 😂 I agree they didn’t plan the Splitters out well, more for production than product.
Great info with some real life issues that can happen. I have been a woodsman for 52 yrs but have never had a sawmill. I am from Alberta , Canada where all my wood is spruce or pine along with some tamarack. What would you recommend for this type of wood? Thks in advance
Thank you, Troy! It really depends on what you plan to do. If you’re just milling for yourself, I’d recommend an LT-35. If you’re looking at production, probably any of the larger mills. There’s such a variety to choose from.
Im about to buy one and trying to decide which one to get. Ive been cutting trees and dealing with wood and hauling trees on a truck for a lot of years, no stranger to trees. But I want me a mill. Im thinking that 28 be a good starter mill. What yall think?
Hello there’s another event I missed I must not bee on the mailer but I can watch it thru your page when you said you can dream what was that machine and how different is it than yours and what does something like that cost??
I think you’re talking about the LT 70 towards the end of the video. That machine is almost double the power of mine and can saw more than double the lumber per hour. I believe it starts at around $70,000.
Needed to see more cutting on the less expensive models. Needed to linger longer on the pricing sheets so one could see the options installed (or not). Sawing the log is less a problem than moving a log onto the saw, rotating the log between cuts, etc.
This was more of an overview of all the models. If you see something you like specifically you can research it further on Wood-Mizer’s website. To go in-depth on every machine would’ve been a 12 hour video.
Who was the manufacturer that made the log shaper to cut double T & G for log home production? Was hoping it was on this video. It was a older add on to a mill.
Fun to watch local channels. BTW our house was built on property previously owned by Oja Lumber. I live on Sawyer St.! So much better that the stupid street names elsewhere in other developments in Sandy.

They didn’t have my LT 35 out this time but they had some smaller mills that weren’t in my first video. I actually went back today to pay for the parts I accidentally stole on Saturday 😬. Everyone is asking where the silver hard hat guy was🤷🏼♂️
Amazing equipment for sure but way way pricey. LT 70 you could pay a good down payment on land or a home. If I were to buy it would be in the neighborhood of 12 -13,000. But at soon to be 73 I do not need that kinda equipment. Got a great channel here buddy stay with it. Enjoy greatly.

Nice saws.. but I will stick with my Hudson 36, to much metal in the west Indian mahogany trees here. I Like pushing the saw manually because of the metal. I can cut 30 inch wide slabs, biggest hassle is getting the trees to my mill, cutting them is fun but hitting nails sux big time..
No doubt hit them too.. but for me it's the metal. I've hit practically every type of nail from 1 inch to 5 inch, one time I hit a piece of rebar, not only did I hit it, I hit it length ways instant blade killer.. if I had automatic chain drive it would have ripped the blade right off. Not to mention concrete cut nails they are the worst nails to hit. totally kills the blades.. the mahogany here in ST Croix us vi is the best in the world, so even with all the nails I hit its still worth it.. The only places that have it in any quantity are Cuba, Santo Domingo, Jamacia, and ST Croix us vi. I should do some vids cutting the wood here.. I built. a whole house full of it.. did all the windows with frames, doors with frames, kitchen, beds , dressers , night stands. 1 ton entertainment center, 400 pound booked matched entry door with 4 inch thick frames. 10 foot dining room table plant stands, planers chairs, Tiki bar with stools. mirrors, bunch of cool stuff.. love wood and stone, best building materials, and they are totally natural.
