My 2007 Expedition had shutters and would not lock up, I replaced the Torque Converter with a new ford unit in my driveway and it’s like a new truck. I changed all the fluid with new Mercon SP and put in a new ford filter, replaced TCC solenoid, replaced the pump bridge seal, and a new oem lockup torque converter and she locks right up and drives like a new truck and shifts amazing now. IMO If this additive doesn’t work drop the trans off the engine and replace the converter....don’t spend thousands on a unneeded overhaul or put any additional snake oil in it....Ford replaces the TC’s when they have the shudders for the most part but I know some years for the HD 250 trans they have an oem approved additive.
I have a 1999 F150, with a 5.4 and a OD transmission. I found my transmission shudders at take off!! So if I am sitting at a stop light and it changes to green, as I start to pull away THAT is when my truck "shudders", and for a while I thought there was a broken spider gear in the rear end (as that is sort of what it felt like), but then I noticed something!!! What I noticed is that it ONLY HAPPENS when the overdrive is on, which in my truck the overdrive feature is automatically turned on when you start my truck!! So if I start my truck, then turn the overdrive off before shifting it into any gear the shudder goes away and doesn't happen!!
Had shutter for years, finally had plugs and plug boots replaced at 195,000 miles and shutter is GONE!!!
Wow! Dodge told me it's a torque convertor issue. Doesn't make sense, because it only happens at steady speed and I haven't had a tune up in over 5 yrs
What kind of shutter are we talking about here? If the torque converter is bad or about to go bad, will that shutter be very noticeable, or just slightly noticeable? I have a bad noise coming from the bellhousing area, 1997 f150, but I don't know if it's a flex plate or a converter. The noise gets quite when in gear and pretty much gone when it's warmed up good. The warmer the truck gets the quiter it is. I do feel a slight vibration under excelleration but nothing really noticeable if I ignore it, it's more like running on a bad plug if anything and I know that's not the problem since I've done a complete tune up on it two months ago.
Good video and very helpful. I have a 1999 Ford V10 motorhome with a 4r100 transmission. Idle is normal but when in 1st gear only after the transmission is warm I get shuttering in 1st gear. Also sometimes I give it some gas and it catches as if the torque converter is slipping. Motorhome has 61k miles on it. Transmission fluid is pink and smells new like it was just changed before purchasing last year (full level). Also slight shift flair when going into overdrive. Any thoughts?
Thanks for sharing, currently trying to differentiate between transmission issue and a misfire. Mrs said tonight it was running better in manual and shuddering less in 5th Vs 6th. Car is 2014 6.2 Roush Stage 2 Raptor. Already had one trip to Dexol for rough shifting and got some beefed up internals then. Could be this issue. One misfire at 1675rpm 13mins into the drive cycle on Cyl 2&4 of a permissible 65500 on the OBD… it is about 7k away from the plug service.

A "Shudder" or " A feel of Driving over a "Washboard". Doesn't feel like a "Miss fire". Try draining your Torque converter add a new filter and fluid. No Additives.
Pretty much William but when a catastrophic event happens after you have the shutter then your front main seal goes out what would you talk about what would happen then what made the front main seal go out from the shudder to torque converter probably would be bad and cause a catastrophic event to eventually make the front main seal pop or could it be that the pump itself stopped pumping in the food heated up to the boiling point and pop the main cell

I have a 2013 ford f150 stx 2wd 5.0 V8 the ford dealerships just cant see to figure out what is causing my truck to vibrate at 55mph, had all fluids changed at 80,000 miles 4th set of tires and the vibration is still there very annoying

I purchased a 2007 f150 lariat n bout 30 miles away I got significant shudder . I took to a transmission specialist in my area n I was surprised when he said he couldn’t flush all the fluid out , just the pan . He said I had a 50/50 chance of new fluid n filter n shudder fix to fix problem. Well I was apprehensive since he’s not changing all the fluid (. 230,000 miles ) well 20 miles home it acted up again , though it was a lot less violent, but still shaking . He said he wasn’t comfortable with just changing torque converter with the mileage on the trans . Does this make since if your trans is working good except for the shudder . I bought this as is couple days ago so I need to figure something out quick ( I know the state has a lemon law ) why wouldn’t someone just do converter and save lots of $ for maybe another 50k miles ?

I have this issue in a 2000 excursion with 300,000 miles on it. It don’t do it everyday but once in a while it sounds like the belt is squealing as it shudders while accelerating around 45 mph. This doesn’t make any sense but I’m pretty sure the shudder and squeal is the transmission? Is that possible?
2008 4.2 stumbling, missing on curves, bucks on bit of incline, accelerates out strong! And also has studder/slip? at take-off . Replaced distributor shaft & pickup. Guess Plugs again, wires were replaced also.. wearing me out

My Econoline E350 rattles pretty bad when I try to go hard on the gas from 45 to 55! Not in lower speeds or over 60!
Usually when things like this happen is it going to be a catastrophic event the torque converter is smothered are breached or just slap wore out transmission filter should have been changed fluid should have been changed but a fluid was not changed on accordingly time then you should just take same fluid save put new transmission filter and if the pump itself is still good replace with new torque converter yet make sure it the fluid going through your radiator and your pump is pumping cuz if the pump stops pumping it will make the fluid heat up and then pop the front main seal and cause a leak from the front of the transmission

Any answer would be awesome!! 2000 f150 v8 4.6 Triton, I get the shake and loss of power uphill, highway, or when I dump it to gain speed, I thought It was plugs, fuel filter, clogged cats, sending unit, fuel pump or coil packs so I spent a rediculous stupid amount of $$ replacing and troubleshooting this cause this truck is solid but it's still doing it. I have to keep this truck so would a flush and a bottle of that shudder fix at least help til I can afford tranny work?? Thanks in advance.

Chevys are having the Shudder problems on their cars and trucks from 2017 up to 2019!!!
They are replacing the Torgue Converters !
What years are usually affected by this? I have a 2000 Ford expedition 2 Wheel Dr. that has a shutter or vibration somewhere between 45 and 65mph, I have changed The U joints and quite a few things up in the front end, Front wheel bearings, upper and lower ball joints, sway bar links, etc., but haven’t been able to find the source of the problem, seems kind of sporadic and hard to pin down. Same here! I have a 2005 Expedition and it happens when I let off the gas going 45+mph. If I “punch the gas”, it goes away but I can’t drive with normal pressure on the gas. Any luck finding the problem? I really could use some help here. I’ve taken it to 3 mechanics and they look at me like I’m crazy.
2005 f150 5.4 with over drive started to have a small kick in transmission between 40 to 50 at light acceleration. happens with OD on or off

Did you figure it out my 2008 Ford F-150 does the same thing when it goes to shift into overdrive it has a hard clunck and shifts up it’s only got 118k miles on it I changed the transmission fluid and the problem is still there

Is it an overdrive transmission? Have you tried switching off the overdrive and still have the issue?

He’s actually right. My 2006 Ford F-150 was making a this weird transmission shudder feel on acceleration between 35-55mph and it turns out it was a misfire. Guess what. The ford dealer could not solve the problem. This video did. So kudos to people like this guy for making a video to help us folks out.

AxZxTxExCxA it’s not so much as shudder but the truck hesitated when pressing on the gas at speeds between of 30 mph and 45 mph. Turns out it was 2 spark plugs that were misfiring. My local dealer in Bloomington illinois charges $480 to change out the plugs on a v8 5.4l but if one breaks he adds $150 to each on that breaks. I did it myself. I broke 4. But used a special tool to remove them. It was a pain in the ass. But I got the job done. Now I have no more hesitation or shudder feel coming from the engine. Which kind of feels like the transmission was going out. So. It’s just the spark plugs.
I got a 2010 Ford F-150 and I hear something like a grinding/rattling sound whenever the rpm's reach 1,000. Any other point in time nothing, only when I accelerate from a stop or slow down to a stop and always at 1,000 rpm I hear it.
We noticed the same thing and got it fixed it is more than likely a loose firewall and is easily fixed by just tightening the screws hope this helped

Help!!!! 2010 F150 shimmers all the time in drive. New rims and tires balanced, ball joints/uca, new lower ball joints, new struts and springs, new shocks, new sway bar links, driveshaft balanced. Pretty much entire new front end. Please guide me in the right direction. Thanks

I have a 91 grand marquis it had a torque converter slip and shutter se times till it finally stopped moving, I installed new torque converter today but it still won't move (I think it may be because linkage is hooked up wrong now) but it was making a whining noise with old converter (almost like a blower supercharger etc) the noise stopped but still won't move any thoughts?

Lots of stuff including fuel and ignition system issues. You’ll likely need to test some stuff to get to the bottom of it.
I have the same problem with the 6r80. Will shudder and sometimes stall if holding on brake in reverse, or in drive at a light. Added more trans fluid and it improved (as in i can idle longer and shudder is less) Still not sure what is causing it

Does it have overdrive? Does the shudder go away when OD is off?

had this issue with 2010 f150XLT 4.6l r680 and spent to much time and fluid filter changes so st 150,000 miles lost 5th gear and need a 5000$ complete transmission change
I have a problem with my 2012 ford f150 fx4. It only happens when I'm driving through the parking lot or a garage. When shifting from first to second my truck shifts very hard it almost feels like I got rear ended. I have to basically stay on 2nd gear so it won't happen. All the shop can tell me is that it's a misfire it has bad coils or the plugs need to be changed. Well that doesn't fix the problem it still comes back. I've looked through so many forums and can't seem to figure it out Please help.

Ive had the same problem for 4 years now. There is a TSB out but need act of congress to get Ford to deal with it.

It's a "shutter" rattling?? That's my problem. Rattling at those speeds only if i go hard on the gas. Once I pass 60 I can go hard on gad and no more rattling under the van.

Sounds like a bandaid fix for worn clutch plates to me. If it drives like duck it’s a dead duck. Save your pennies. Your going to need a trans.
mine has a vibration when taking off from dead stop but only when im making a left or right turn.

I have a 2005 f150 116k 5.4... beautiful truck been in my family since 2011 .but holy F#@k I spend more money on this truck then I do on my 2004 WRX and 2002 Spec V and 96 mustang..... I drive the 7k a year ... And i still seem to find myself putting 800$ or 900$ almost every other year

Ford is not telling me my shudder at takeoff and my vibration at 45 and 70 is my after market wheels (Moto Metal) which I HIGHLY doubt but they want to find me some takeoff stock wheels to see...whatever....shudder fix did NOT stop my issues...I believe it is a converter or driveshaft.. I am about to just dump this truck and get a dodge...SO frustrating.
Don't overlook a possible misfire problem. Look at mode6 data and se if any cylinders are dropping out. Hope you get it nailed down
Found I had a bad coil that was causing spitting and sputtering but did not fix the shudder.
i have 04 expedition n i having issues with it...the issue is when i driving all of sudden the truck shutdown and i have to wait couple mins so it can start again

hey i got a question for you! i have a 2015 ford escape 2.0 EcoBoost with 122k. recently when i first start my car and i usually let it idle for about 3 minutes and i put it in drive and the car jolts a little bit! if i put it in reverse or neutral its all smooth! once the car warms up everything is smooth like coming out of a store start the car put it in drive and its smooth only when i first start my car, my transmission was rebuilt at 53k and now has 122k on it, last week i did do a transmission drain and fill on it and the transmission fluid was dirty and black! but it did have a little red color to it! and the transmission fluid didnt smell burnt. it seemed to fix the problem start the car in the morning put it in drive all smooth! i think the problem is coming back when i put the car in drive its very slight jerk, do you think i should do another drain and fill on the transmission to get more of the dirty fluid out? any advice? oh yeah no check engine light on.
Dude you solve it? I feel.something like bump.or shake when push the pedal hard or.costant speed and rpm climbing hills..do a drain and fill but not 100 solved...last year do 3 drain and fill.
@@pablomachucachavez1014 yes I did 4 drain and fills on the transmission, but not all at once like every weekend for a month and every time I did it the fluid was dirty and black, now the transmission has 153k on it and stopped doing it

@The Car Doctor Hey Car Doctor 😊, I have a 2017 f250 reg fuel, and it's shuddering or hesitating on those highway speeds...mostly between 5th and 6tg gear...but sometimes even as low as 4th.
Recently had a "heavy idle and acceleration issue" codes registered for fuel injector, and a misfire...changed thefuel injector , 2 spark plugs and a cylinder....was fine for about 40 miles...then this new shudder began... Took it to Ford they said no codes came up🤔🤔🤔
what if the shuddering is still present when the overdrive is off??
Then its probably an ignition misfire. Check codes and misfire monitors for more info. Take care
I’ll try. My 2012 explorer seems to fail downshifting from 6 to 5 and shutters when coming up to speed at 57-60 mph. When have it in manual shifting there is no shudder at those speeds at 5th gear, but present in 6th.

Is there any way this could ruin my tranny? I've had my O/D light flashing off and on for years now. I ran the codes and its a "TC slip lower than 1:1" so i bought this stuff hoping it can clear that up.
Well I don't know what you have to loose. Sounds like your transmission if fried already. If it helps then you saved a ton of cash. Probably no helping yours buddy. Sorry about that

when i drive my ford escape all wheel drive it goes through all the gears smoothly and drives great but when it kicks into over drive at 45 on outer roads or 65 down the highway as soon as it hits about 1800 rpm i get this shake like the car is having a seizure what do you thnk?

That's possible. May be a transmission issue. You can try the additive. Won't hurt.

Torque converter, or you can try replacing fluids n filter n add Shudder Fix also . The latter works a lot of times but will run you bout $ 150

Are you sure you don't have a misfire? That's the most common cause of your symptom.
If I do have a misfire or misfires it's not making the DTC come on which is possible. By what troubleshooting technique did you use to determine that that is the most common cause of this symptom. Did the PCM know that there was a lack of power coming from the engine therefore it would up shift to the next gear? Just trying to understand it a little bit more.
Get a scan tool that can look at mode 6 data and see what the misfire monitors look like. Or replace the plugs and COP boots with motorcraft parts and see if that clears it up. Look for any coolant leakage at the intake gasket around the thermostat area running into the #5 COIL AREA OR THE #4 CYLINDER FROM A LEAKING HEATER HOSE.

I have a 02 Excursion with a 6.8, I tried turning the OD off, same symptoms, shakes between 45 and 65, no misfires detected on scan, what’s the fix for this?
same here shudder fix first if that doesnt do it converter replacement it looks like I'm not too sure what else to do
This did not help at all, I have a OD shutter after, I rebuilt the transmission in my 06 Expedition, I kind of think it's the over drive valve or the #7 check ball in the valve body, I just wanted to see what people have done to fix it, I did not see this guy fix anything.
