I love this video! Senior citizen trying to install dash cam HaHa. I now understand exactly how it works and the dongle thing is a bonus!!! Also, if you want the operation while parking, you can unplug from dongle and use longer USB cord to plug into the 12V cigarette lighter adapter when you park in questionable areas.

Same as you I looked for the Garmin mini 2 and the Viofo 119 V3 but I decided going for the Garmin mini 2 as it was very small and from a known company, I also ordered the Dongar dongle for my Mazda CX-5. I received the Camera last week, and I tried to test it but the camera doesn't not work whatsoever without an SDcard. I ordered an Sdcard from BestBuy but making sure it was one that was recommended or approved by Garmin. Long story short, the Garmin mini I received was a lemon. it didn't work with or without an SDcard. I requested my refund today and after watching your video I am ordering the Viofo 119 V3. I wish i could get the Viofo 129 but it is way more expensive.

Nice! I am on my second Garmin Mini 2 and use a Dongar Technologies dongle and both Garmin units have failed. Looking at a Viofo unit. Good to know it can be powered with the dongle.
I love you idea on this dongle to hide the wires but I prefer to have parking mode but keep my investment protected I wanna different route I purchased the nextbase 622gw it has a lot of features that other cameras just don’t has and good customer support check it out I Tom I love the content of your channel it right up my Alley since I have the 2021 f150 powerboost big thumbs up your update on the f150
Dongal is a great find. Unfortunately, sold out and not for trucks with Lane Keeping Assist. Looks like there is a version to fix the latter, but not available yet. Will keep an eye on the link. Thanks!
Yeah I saw it was sold out. Probably from chip shortages. I have the lane keeping assist and it works fine. What I don't have is the Blue Cruise prep, that may be different.
@@notallwhowanderarelost2024 Contacted the manufacturer. It seems like the advertisement of with and without Lane Keep Assist is about the mirror type and not the LKA function. My truck has LKA, but uses the 16 pin donegal. They expect to have these in stock again in three weeks.

What model is your truck, my Rove camera hardwire kit doesn’t fit the 2022 Lariat and eliminates the parking modes which is one feature I wanted. When you plug in thru the mirror is the camera always active?
I have a 2021 XLT, the camera is only on when the truck is on or the accessory type items are on.
Does a short usb cable come with an adaptor?
Does the mirror have power even when car is off? If not I'd rather hardwire in the fuse box
Hi John, no it does not. That is the only downside to this method. Since the power is cut when the truck is off the camera's parked mode won't function
How do you like the camera. Do you use a card reader to review footage or straight from the device?
I still like it. I use a card reader and pull the footage off the SD card when I want something off of it. I'd suggest getting two SD cards so you can simply swap them out instead of sitting in your vehicle waiting for files to transfer.
How is the static sticker holding up? I'm trying to decide if I want to use it or not. Searching online, it seems like people are generally 50/50 on using it. Some say it sticks really well and other says no.

@@notallwhowanderarelost2024 Great! I just installed mine with the static stickers. Hopefully it holds strong. I also used the dongar adapter and I'm happy it works. I was afraid it wasn't be enough to power, but it is fine. I just had a slight issue with the USB connection because the dongar adapter had a tight USB opening.
Any updates to this? Would you do it again or go a different route?
Still working great! Though I do wonder if a WiFi based one to pull footage off of would be easier
