I WRITE THIS WITH TEARS IN MY EYES BILL RUSSELL IS THE REASON I'M A CELTIC FAN AND HAVE BEEN SINCE 1966 AND GREEN IS MY FAVORITE COLOR... YESTERDAY THE WORLD LOST THE GREATEST WINNER AND RESPECTED MAN IN ALL OF SPORTS!!! RIP MR. WILLIAM F. RUSSELL... THE ALL TIME {CHAMPION}😔😔😔
From a historical perspective, he is the Ceasar of Basketball, the double crested eagle, the king on the chess board. The most ruthless, calculating, competitive, and mentally astute player there ever was.
I'm a lifelong Laker Fan...with that being said Bill Russell the man and player I am a huge fan of. When Bob Cousey started to cry "we could have done much more to ease his pain" that moment of realization hurts me as a sports fan that Russell moved to Redding Mas and they treated him and his family so poorly. Kids these days need to take note of men like Mr Russell
I'm in tears. The world is diminished in so many ways by Bill Russel's passing. An example to all of mankind of how to not just play basketball but how life should be lived. You are loved and will be missed, Sir.
Bill Russel is the real deal, the greatest to ever do it is not MJ or LBJ. Bill Russel is the Greatest of all time period, MJ and LBJ fans please rest.
I genuinely have so much love for this man Rest In Peace Champion. So great for our game the smartest and best defensive player ever And my personal 2 all time Greatest champion too
Bill Russell is one of greatest centers, team sportsman and activist who ever lived...Even though he passed away, people would always remember his legacy ☘️ #6
RIP Bill Russell. I hope your opinion of heaven has changed. I hope that it is greater than playing for the Boston Celtics! May you be reunited with your friend and coach Red Auerbach, Wilt Chamberlain, and your former late Celtic teammates
I didn't realize he just retired out of nowhere. he would have definitely won more if he just kept playing. 42.7 minutes per game in his last season with no drop off in production. that's disgusting.
His legacy, besides his winning pedigree, should be greatest defensive player ever. Whatever he lacked on offense, he made up for on defense. Imagine Dennis Rodman, on the Bulls, but Rodman was 6' 10 and could jump out of the building Too bad he brought a great winning tradition to a city that, culturally, didn't deserve it
13:04 San Francisco extended that streak to 62 the following year, after Bill retired. STILL the second-longest streak in Division I Basketball (behind the Walton gang at UCLA with 88 and AHEAD of Kareem's team at UCLA with 47).
I refuse to diminish the quality of competition in the NBA during this era because it may have been a different time where players were not as talented as they would later become , but with less teams , the player pool was that much more concentrated . Instead of freak athletes with 5 months of D1 experience you had NBA rosters chock full of all americans with much tougher and more mature / professional mindsets At least 25 thousand men have played major league baseball ; far less than 6k have made it to the NBA . Russell's 11 championships are truly one of those records up there with Wayne Gretzky's point totals , DiMaggio's 56 game streak , etc. , just an unfathomably remarkable teflon record
Listen, Bill Russell was not the first Black American to become a coach. It was John Mclendon , who coached the Cleveland Pipers of the defunct American Basketball Association.
Referring to the four major North American sports leagues (NBA, NHL, NFL, MLB), was actually FRITZ POLLARD who was the first black coach for four NFL teams during the 1920s. Most folks don’t consider Pollard as the first because the NFL was in its infancy then.
Imagínate lo grande que fué Bill Russell que ganó el doble de títulos que Jordan.... y no hizo tanto espamento ni abusó del esfuerzo de sus compañeros para creerse el mejor... el verdadero G.O.A.T.....
How this great man took all the racist treatment is beyond me. THAT'S WHAT MAKES HIM SPECIAL! A SPECIAL MAN SELECTED BY GOD HIMSELF TO DO HIS WORK. I WILL SEE YOU IN THE RESURRECTION MY DEAR BROTHER! GOD WILL WELCOME YOU WITH OPEN ARMS AND HE WILL SAY TO YOU MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT WELL DONE! GOD SELECTED A TRUE WARRIOR WHO DEFEATED HATE AND RACISM. I WILL DO THE SAME!
He won NBA championships in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969. It's 11 titles that Bill Russell has won. He and the Celtics lost to Bob Petit and the St. Louis Hawks in six games. And they loss to Wilt Chamberlain and the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA semifinals in 1967. ANOTHER FACT: Bill Russell has never averaged less than 20 rebounds per game in any of his playoff career. Never!!!🏀

Bill Russell was the greatest to ever play the game. The fact that one cant put anyone above him without first tearing him down is testament to that.

Never judge a man unless you have walked in his shoes.
The guy would get so focused he would vomit, man I wish to one have such focus minus the vomiting.
Bill Russell and wilt chamberlain are the greatest basketball players of their time in the NBA.
Well look how he was treated......I'd be defensive too!
Some players dream to win just one he won 11
Beautiful, so American....
How the hell did he get 11 😮 like will anybody ever break this record? Will we ever see it happen in our lifetime?
The 50's and 60's were a different time in america.
RIP 📿

Russell has 10 championships not 11
I thought he won 11 Championships in 13 season's?...
I think that it is 11 rings.
Your name shows your true character sir! # CHEAT- IM! # A boston fan... not a BLACK MAN FAN!💯
He won 11 and it should've been 12! He got hurt in the finals against St. Louis up 2-0.
He won NBA championships in 1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969. It's 11 titles that Bill Russell has won.
