  • While engine parts are away, a 'job' breaks out for a friend, we 'spray paint' the block and attempt to repair a broken out casting stud from the clutch housing.

Enjoyed the table distraction. Glad it’s away and I guess I no longer have to trip over the tripod reminding me of another project waiting in the wings. I had plans on strapping a vintage leg vice to it for use outside.

Gday Mat, the table will look nice with the glass on top, having a half decent spay gun will make a big difference and nice job welding the crack up, thanks for sharing mate, cheers

If the chap is able, I hop eto post a photo of the finished table painted and glass fixed in situ. One things for sure its not going to be very portable ! be ideal outside as a small hurricane / tornado shelter :-) All the best Mat

Brilliant update. The table looks spectacular. Engine looking good, spraying looks good to me! Nice job with the welding too. Thank you very much indeed for the channel shout out, much appreciated. Ollie and I had a brilliant time at No 4, would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. Thank you again for being so generous with your time showing me your workshop and projects.
    All the best,
    Carl.

@@lookcreations My pleasure. Nice to see the Adcock and Shipley Mill in action too. Gives me the impetus to finish my Harrison! 😁

Nice occasional table, occasionally moved!, nice bit of age to the tripod parts, ref possibly hand forged threads?
Nice clean engine 👌 👍. Matt. Having a rest next week 😴
    Thanks for sharing.
    Best regards John.

I hadnt thought about the threads being forged - possible for sure. The cast iron wheels under the legs were well worn (flat one side), hadly surprising as none would point in the same direction no matter how you moved it. An odd design with the heavy tennon at the top and also odd shape tothe lower portion. At least it should last a few years yet ! All the best Mat

Mat, have you had a look at Make it Kustom, young couple out of British Columbia and he does excellent work. Loves to show how to form and fit panels and patches with basic tools. Good videos to pick up some body work pointers. I just finished binge watching your lathe and shaper rebuilds. Lovely piece of work there. I learned lots off you on scraping and fitting. Thanks for the great videos.
    Cheers

Hi Chris, thanks for watching and commenting. I have just recently started watching make it Kustom, he has an easy style which suits me.

You need one of those offset bolts for those offset holes. 😎

🤣 Missed an opportunity there didn’t I. Still can’t get my head around how I got it wrong. All the best Brian. Mat

Matt, you did fine work with that 2 knob spray kit. If I were doing it, I'd be the third knob. As long as there's no big lot of scale in the engine, I don't think I'd worry about a bit of rust. Worst case, once back together with the holes all connected or plugged, fill her up with white vinegar to flush out any light scale and rust. Wish I could get over to that side of the pond for a holiday as I'd come rent a place from ya for a couple days. Thanks for the video!

I was indeed the 3rd nob ! much like the 5th element only not so good in orange lycra ! I concluded the same - get it back together andd flush it for an hour or so. I cant hear anything falling around inside when I rotate the block on the stand.

    Turn the wheel over.
That internal gear in middle looks cool.
Plus it looks like you wouldn't need the hole cut in the glass.

Hi Steve, sad to say the height means the wheel has to go boss up gear down so the glass will be donut shaped. I didnt want to have to modify the wheel from original. cheers Mat

Bolt hole likely was crooked from the factory, so the crack was from somebody using the BFH to make it fit in place. After all a BFH is what you need to fix a landie, if the fence wire does not work.

    • @lookcreations
      @lookcreations  2 роки тому

BFH .... yep that sounds about right. It slides on easy enough now - I had to 'tickle up the inner flange' on the bell housing as it was more than tight ! Thanks for watching. mat

@@lookcreations My BFH is called "Gentle Persuasion", because there is no limit as to how gentle I can use it, but if it comes out it is either going to be used as an anvil, or something is really stuck. Had to replace the handle because it broke, so took the time to clean it up and make it pretty, and used epoxy to fit the new handle in the head.

Where I served my apprenticeship, they had "Big Bertha" it was about 3 to 4 feet long, 4" diameter heavy steel tube with a 4 or 5" solid copper bar jammed in the end. Needless to say, it was used with the assistance of an overhead crane.

    Hello Mat,
The table and engine both looked good... I have been using the Paragon paint and is seems to work well. I have had best results when I leave it several days before removing masking tape, etc... See you on the next one.
    Cheers.

Hi Paul, definitely let things cure well before unmasking. It’s sitting in my shed at about 28 degrees today and with the forecast much the same through to Saturday, it can stay there.
      All the best

    Electrolysis?

It’s not an easy one, I’ve opted to flush it again when it’s plugged up so I can circulate a fluid. I poked around inside and there’s very little sediment, it just looks rough.

    spray gun
    2 knobs ..
    Top one volume of paint
    Bottom one fan size.
You did say you know nothing.

The one on the left of the gun is supposed to restrict flow of paint into the valve - it doesnt really. I think I should have thinned it more and increased air pressure (45psi was just attomising it), as for 'fan spread' yeh..... after buggering about for an hour I got a sort of vertical sausage .... with a bulge on one side :-) Nozzel size was 1.5 so could have gone bigger had I got one. When I stripped the needle and nozzel - it wasnt very well machined inside so I suspect that didnt help. Still better than painting witha brush or in my case my fingers! Cheers Steve. Mat
