- Hi, I'm Kirby Allison, and we love to help the well-dressed acquire and care for their wardrobes. My team and I flew to London for the 2019 World Championship of Shoemaking, where I again served as a judge. This year, the call for entry was for a dark brown wingtip, also known as a full brogue. Over 40 shoemakers from around the world submitted shoes, and the caliber and craftsmanship of the shoes submitted this year was incredibly impressive, pushing the bar even higher than the year prior.
The following day on Saturday, March 23, ShoeGazing Blog and J. FitzPatrick organized the London Super Trunkshow, at Showcase.co located on Regent Street, where various shoemakers came together to showcase their works. It was at this event that the World Championship of Shoemaking, World Championship of Patina, and World Championship of Shoe Shining took place.

A couple of days ago I was in London. I slipped away from my family who were shopping around Regent Street/Oxford Circus and I headed to Savile Row. I briefly enjoyed looking through the windows of the suit and shoe makers (Gaziano Girling). I dare not enter as I'm not a wealthy man! But it was s pleasure to see the craft and sheer quality of the shoes - if even through the window.
Thanks

tonydeltablues You never be afraid to walk in to look and ask questions! Don’t forget St James’s Street and Jermyn Street, either!
@@kirbyallison ...I am thinking now that I should have just gone in to have a look and express my admiration for the shoes...next time....
Thanks, I enjoy your content.
If u cant afford them, enjoy watching closely like a boss.
:-)
I laughed way too hard at the clown shoe wingtips. Perfectly timed deadpan reveal
Wow! Super excited to see this video! Thanks Kirby for highlighting these master shoe artisans.
Loved the video. Thanks. The country of gentlemen. Love the UK.
Pure envy! Good for you Kirby!
Did you all know that many famous clowns had their shoes bespoke made by top shoe makers? I liked the so called clown shoe with the exaggerated toe area...cool they had the courage to try that at a championship!
The shoe with the puffy toe would be an excellent choice if one were to ever drop an anvil on his foot! Brilliant! Cheers mates!!
Vulpe's shoe was the best. The detailing was beautiful. Wegan's was beautiful as well.
J SKI His shoe certainly had a very thoughtful and creative pattern, for sure!
Fantastic Video. More please.
Being able to say you won the World Championship in Shoemaking is probably worth major league bragging rights and more upscale business. When a person pays $5000, $15000 or more for a pair of bespoke shoes, I suppose it's comforting to know that the person who made your shoes 👞👞 won the world shoemaking championship🥇🏆
great video Kirby!
The winning shoe was definitely deserving. Pure art.
Just discovered your channel and I am already in love with your content. It's as if you created a channel specifically for me!
The level of craftsmanship must be extremely difficult to narrow it down to just three winners
This is so cool to watch. I want Daniel to make my next pair of soccer cleats, polished leather, broguing and everything. Then I woft onto the field just dripping swag.
SunsetWingman I like the idea of having some archaic made bespoke, like a pair of golf shoes or hiking boots.
Any type of cleated sport shoe. I'd want a normal leather sole with threaded inserts for screw in cleats so that I could just walk up to the field and never take my shoes off. Just slap in the cleats and go! @@kirbyallison
I’m sure it was a difficult process to select a winner from all the fine submissions. It must be exciting for you to participate in the judging. Thanks for producing this excellent video. Nice job!
Ed F It was pretty difficult - but the top 3-5 were clear breakaways.
Hey Kirby! Love your store and your products and at this point I can say I've bought enough to know ;) The value is there and I hope you keep it so. I do have two questions... Can you do a video on what you do to keep things renewable? Do you reuse your polishing cloths? If so, how do you clean them? What about the shoe shine carpet? Second, why don't they make some sort of home shoe vise like your cobbler or Dornstar use to hold the shoes and take arm stress out of the polishing process? New product for Hanger project?
What are your views on Florsheim shoes ? Or can you recommend a good manufacturer for loafers/brogues suitable for work. Leather soles is a must
Kirby - this is a GREAT idea. A couple of suggestions from a bespoke shoe newbie - with marketing experience - I'd like to see a) more detailed clips of different aspects of top 10 shoes with music and narrative on the shoe b) short interesting bios on top 10 shoemakers .. make it personal so the world can know more about these amazing craftsmen c) more women to present the shoes and women shoemakers. Keep making these great videos!
Nice to see a small country like Sweden get a foothold in an artisan competition like this. Congrats Daniel!
Its interesting to see the unusual design achieved by the brief but perhaps it would add to the judging IF the shoes were all wearable and could be modelled on a catwalk? maybe extra judging criteria could be added on how the shoe behaves under motion etc.
What is that coat in the opening shot?
Kirby, your commentary on the winning shoe with Jim McCormack was an education in the craft of shoemaking. Very insightful!
Don Peterson Thanks, Don!
What is the best type & brand fo 13 EE flat foot for walking specifically, about how much. Thank you.
$350-2000 depending on where ,,,,, Cheaney and Sons,,,,, James Taylor and Son,,,,,Alden Shoes,,,,,Allen Edmonds,,,,,,
Corthay should of won, that design was gorgeous. but I’m not taking away what the others did but to me Corthay would be the one Id personally would wear.
JL No doubt he had a very impressive shoe!
Beauty is subjective.
not really. a huge amount of what we consider beautiful is driven by mathematical and biological principles, such as the golden ratio
Thank's for nice video and explication ,
where I can see the list of participants in the contest?

Ok, so I guess I own several funny looking wingtip shoes, they are not Japanese made, but I say they are a bold looking shoe, fine looking, I would buy "So Tsuchiya" wingtips, mine are handmade Asian big toed wingtips.
Where is your blackwing 602?
ดีมาก เคอร์บี้ แอลลิสสัน ผม enjoy คอนเทนท์ ของโชว์ของคุณมากๆ! ขอบคุณมากครับ!
you should've been the one announcing the winners
Are you covering the world championship of shoe shineing
John C Yes! We are still working on the videos! Ton of time involved in the post-production work.
@Lasse Riise yes I brought a tin off ebay it's called bee naturals shoe polish
Kirby,
I'm kinda new to this world of shoes. I have recently purchased shoes from Allen Edmonds, Paul Evans, and Magnanni. What is your opinion on Magnanni?
buzzmeister meister I am not very fun of Magnanni shoes, I feel they are decent shoes but too overpriced for what they are. Also Allen Edmonds is hit or miss nowadays on leather quality, I love my AE boots but the leather on my oxfords is horrible.
@@onepoh4680 I feel the same about AE. All of the AE I have are great, but only because I bought them at reduced prices during either a sale or got factory 2nd.
@@buzzmeistermeister280 Recently I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of Alden's, not sure if all of their shoes are the same but the one I have is great. I hope one day I can afford a pair of "Paolo Scafora" shoes.
In regards to the best qualiry shoes and people in the know, I ask myself if I was a millionaire, would I buy Allen Edmonds or choose these kind if brands?
I feel people buy Allen Edmonds for 2 reasons. 1, becuase they think AE are the best quality in the world or have a low appreciation of "best quality" or 2, they cannot afford anything higher in price.
@@yacovlk7924 For a lot of people Allen Edmonds are the first entry level "good" shoe brand. I dont think anyone "on the know" will consider a ready to wear shoe brand the highest quality, nor are they the cheapest on their quality level.
I know I know it doesn't halft to be wearable but can that guy fit in to it
What is the point in making a shoe that is unwearable for a shoe-making competition? That would be more for a a knick-knack-making competition!
its to show off cobbling expertise
Wearability should be a mandatory criterion. The Wegan shoe was freakish and ugly.
Yeah totally agree. Unfortunately the pretentious judges are too far up their own arses to realise when they've lost touched with the basics.
wearing in a way where a thinner end is longer than the broader end is not the proper way to do it and i see both gentlemen have that which means that the tie is too long for their respective heights
Great entries but I believe that the winner was not a realistic depiction of what a shoe means. I would expect something that would be wearable and not just a study on a shoe.
George Did you see the interview with Jim at the end? I think he did a good job articulating the virtues of this shoe and why it was deserving.
Curious contest, more for the craftsmanship than wearability (do you like my new word?) A combination of both would be better IMHO
It probably costed more to make the shoe then the cash prize.
Wow Russia have 2 position, nice!
I’ll wear my 5k shoes when I take my Bugatti Veyron for a spin around my estate.
What is the purpose if can NOT WARE??? It's not art piece. Rather than fashion.
My Allen Edmonds McCallisters would have def won that competition!
Extremely rude and disrespectful of the cackling idiots in the background loudly guffawing during the winner's interview.
I'm always amazed at how self centered people are these days.
Congrats to Mr. Wegan.
My jhon lobb bespoke museum calf Quarter brouge can win
First!
Excellent shoes but dreadful emcee, and I say this as someone who likes Jesper's website and his writing.
Number one shoe well crafted for sure but hideously ugly otherwise!
