    In today's video, Kirby Allison shines for the first time his brand new bespoke black pigskin oxfords made by London-based bespoke shoemaker Dominic Casey. These shoes were Kirby's latest commission. For this pair, bespoke shoemaker Dominic Casey teamed up with famous west end maker Jim McCormack to make these pairs. Dominic Casey designed and cut the uppers while Jim McCormack did the making. Jim is widely-regarded as one of the best "west end" bespoke shoemakers, which is the style of making used by London-based bespoke shoemaking firms.
    This is Kirby's fifth pair of bespoke shoes from Dominic Casey. Kirby chose the black pigskin because of the visual texture the materials offer. A great alternative to standard black calfskin, which Kirby already owns, pigskin offers additional visual texture that makes these shoes truly unique.

    Lovely pair of shoes the pigskin was a good choice. Kirby the next time you are in London have you thought of opening a little pop up shop? Some of your stuff is made in England so it would be easy to stock a pop up. I'm sure one of the Savile Row shops would help you out with all the free publicity you have gave them. Even better what about Davidoff i bet he would sell loads of extra cigars anyway its just a thought.

    I'm sure this won't be popular, but... I polish my shoes infrequently, and badly. Wearing them to cycle to and from work, I occasionally get them wet, so I decided to polish them and then spray them with Fabsil aerosol silicone waterproofer. Amazing results! I wasn't expecting it, but not only did this make my shoes shinier, the shine is lasting very well, and best of all, water runs off them. That's my shoeshine procedure from now on!

I find that my mirror shines last only 2-3 wears and once the toe and heels have been scuffed I can't seem to even out the scuffs and achieve a shine again no matter now many layers or pat de luxe and mirror gloss I apply. Would appreciate any help

    A fan of pigskin leather for sure. A side note from a fellow UA-cam channel, The audio (at least when listening on mobile) is letting in a lot of background noise during the timeline parts where you’re not speaking. It may be the audio channel or the audio plug in gate/expander threshold thats letting in that static.

    I just stumbled upon this channel and I was curious about how an expert would go about a proper shine. I learned to shine shoes at the school I attended, Carson Long Military Institute in New Bloomfield, Pennsylvania. Sadly they closed their doors a few years ago. Anyway, I was surprised to see that the same techniques I learned back in the mid 1980s are the ones being taught here. My Military School really stressed the importance of being an officer and a gentleman. Part of that was dressing smartly and taking care of your clothes, military and civilian. It is impossible to find decent shoes anymore unless you go the rare, bespoke route. Everything else seems to be expensive, brand name, chinese junk.

    Kirby - I am in need of advice and who better to turn to than you. For various reasons I am often forced to use galoshes to and from work to protect my shoes. This tends to matt the shine, which is unfortunate. Do you have any advice for touching up a shine at the office or on the go? Are express sponges a viable option?

  • @davidpielykh3996

    I'd insist the renovateur has that extra cleaning features other conditioners just don't offer. F.e. Lexol and Bick4 won't take any color off, VSC would, and Renovateur does it noticeably more than VSC.

    Leonard is an English tailor who used to craft suits on London’s world-famous Savile Row. After a personal tragedy, he’s ended up in Chicago, operating a small tailor shop in a rough part of town where he makes beautiful clothes for the only people around who can afford them: a family of vicious gangsters.

    Hi Kirby, i'm French and i'd like to adress the pronounciation of "renovateur". "teur" is the French for "tor" like in "actor" or "director". i don't know why you say "renovatour" but it's "renovator" for you English speakers. Thanks 😉

    • @talavb9301
      @talavb9301 2 роки тому +2

      He's just pronouncing it the way it's spelled. For example, the English word 'amateur' is pronounced with the same sound at the end. You wouldn't suggest that English speakers switch to saying 'amator', would you? This applies to many many words in English - restauranteur, entrepreneur, chauffeur, connoisseur, etc. etc. ad nauseam.
      Also, since it's a name, it should borrow some of the pronunciation from its language of origin. Consider Louis Pasteur, which again has the same 'eur' at the end. You wouldn't suggest that English speakers should say 'Louis Pastor', would you?

    • @tristanholland6445
      @tristanholland6445 2 роки тому

      It’s just regional dialect of French words in English.

    • @jiboo6850
      @jiboo6850 2 роки тому +2

      @@talavb9301 nope it's not the way it's spelled sorry. you're wrong. and yes it's the same for amateur or Pasteur. you just took a bad habit for it. we say "amator" with an accentuation on the "r" at the end like in "Sir" or "maker". no matter what you think or say. it's a French word. you say "root" for "route" which is correct. i don't say Kirby "Keerby" in French because it's an English name. we also say Kirby like you. therefore you're wrong and i'm correct. nothing wrong with being in the wrong. i'm there to correct it. and on top of that, Saphyr is a French brand so... pronounce it the French way. when we use English words in French we respect the original pronounciation. just do the same.
      the way he says it is good for "Tour de France" and it's not the same word at all. and by the way the word renovator actually exists for you in English. which is funny. why are you tempted to say it otherwise? it's beyond me. if the brand did actually translate it on the cream pot it would say "renovator". don't you feel kinda stupid now?

    • @talavb9301
      @talavb9301 2 роки тому +1

      Well, despite all your sarcasm, I actually did manage to learn one little thing from you, which is pretty amazing. I consider this a piece of good luck.
      That notwithstanding, you're perfectly within your rights to take issue with anyone's pronunciation. I know that French people, out of all the peoples of Europe, are famously chauvinist with their language, so I understand.
      All I'm saying is, the name on the package is spelled with an 'eur'. So, being an English speaker, it's natural to pronounce 'eur' the same way as 'eur' is always pronounced in English. If it was instead spelled 'Renovator' on the package, then it would be natural to pronounce it differently. A different spelling means a different pronunciation, why would I feel stupid?

    • @jiboo6850
      @jiboo6850 2 роки тому +1

      @@talavb9301 OMG leave it there you're hopeless. when you have no argument you start to attack the French people. just quit. talking about sarcasm when there's none. nice try but not with me. i defend the right pronounciation. "teur" doesn't sound like "tour". end of story. no matter what you have to say.
      but i figured out that it's purely and marely a US thing to say those words like you say. i talked about that with an English from London and he said i'm actually right. in London they say "amator" and not "amatour". "connoisseur" they say "conwasir" like us in French. so funny...

  • @gregjohnson6329
    @gregjohnson6329 2 роки тому

    Was it IN London? Not every shoe should get a high shine. Why have the textured pig skin if you’re just going to shine that characteristic away? You make the toe look like a calf skin thus making the pig skin irrelevant. Leave it alone and let the texture be the star. Otherwise every shoe looks the same and your 5k specials are no different than a Primark loafers. And Primark is IN London. Also add some music like death metal it’ll get the shine on.
