Mum was very proud of her son. Nice to see.
Proud her son is respected for his skill and that he’s not selling his body on social media like most western millennials.
The men should have left the room, and the judges should not have known who shinned what shoes.
acorn sucks It May not be obvious in the video, but it was abundantly clear who the winner was.
Kirby Allison wasn’t technique a component of the judging and the reason judging wasn’t blind?
Crowning a winner on something that is rather an artform, where results are judged on preferences is something of a catch-22.
I do like to differentiate the toes and heels on my shoes from the rest of the shoe, but I do not like a glassy mirror on my toes.
Yuta did it with style and finesse, no stress what so ever and with a great result. Different level of professionalism.
Why do the interviews while they're performing? Seems distracting.
That's what I was about to say! They clearly didn't want to talk.
Agreed, felt this way about last year too
You don't see people interviewing athletes at the Olympics... Lol
RIGHT?!? Just be quiet and let them work.
I would've given him one word answers and let him take the hint.
It's videos like this that make UA-cam great. Who would have known such a thing occurred?
My wife thinks it’s odd that I watch shoe shining videos. It’s an art and a hell of a lot better than CNN, social media and I learn a skill. Obviously I own a lot of hand made shoes.
Good on you
You mean better than Fox
@@LuckyStrike-ov9cd Better than any of these shitty media outlets that pretend they're delivering facts rather than propaganda. No matter what side of the aisle their dumbass sheep are bleating from.
Master this technique and use it on her . She will beg yiu to watch more videos
Me too
"Drinking"
best response i've heard lol
Great stuff as always! Shining shoes can definitely be an art. Always enjoyable watching guys like these.
On a side note, check us out as well.
Keep up the great work, Kirby!!
Another world shoe shining championship! I enjoy watching these very much. I can only imagine the pressure these men are going through. At the end, they all did a fantastic job 👍
Damm that was some intesne shining. My wife finds it weird that i watch 3 grown men furiously shine shoes for 20 minutes, but it's a true display of art at the finest most intricate level. A true display of dedication and professionalism. I hope one day i can fly out to watch these masters perform their craft live
I wear steel toe cap boots. I've learned to mirror shinw them thanks to Kirby Allison, Real Men Real Style and Army cadet shine videos. Thank you !
It does seem odd that the contestants are being bothered with questions in the heat of the event.
true, it gives you the feeling it's not a serious event or at least the host is not handling it as one.
I disagree I think you've got to be able to multitask.
Some of them said they work at an upscale gentleman's fine clothing store. Their service needs to be top-notch in their field, which includes shining the shoes and attending to the customers and clients.
Being polite and respectful to any concerns or questions the customer may have.
At this level they should be able to do both simultaneously.
Think of a sommelier who has to decant and describe various wine's while he answers questions and politely chats with the restaurant-goers who are dining..
I do see where you guys are coming from though, don't get me wrong.
I think we can all agree this was not a very good host. He distracted them a little too much and asked more questions than I would have. Either give the contestants more time on-the-clock or either only ask two questions per contestant
keep it up Kirby, great video. The host should interview the participants at the end.
15:37 the fact that the Japanese guy is cleaning the table and has folded the cloths is exactly why I love Japan! Haha
I like it a lot too. But I wouldn't fit in, I can be sloppy at times, especially when I am rushing with work.
Slopes were born to shine shoes!
That was so cool!🙌
This is something right out of a Will Farrell movie! 😂😂😂 Up next, crisp crease ironing championship. Good stuff.
Why doesn't kirby host, he seems so much more suitable to public speaking than the guy they have announcing.
I was just thinking that
Agreed! The host needs to uncross his arms. Very unprofessional
Because Jesper probably knows way much about shoes and it was he who introduced this thing in the first place.
I Forgot to comment on my first view of this clip. Thank you Kirby for putting on I really enjoyed this. Very educational as well 🤌🏽💥
Very impressive results in a short amount of time. Great skills all around. Thanks for sharing, Kirby!
15:06 she a winner
Well done the winner suprised me with mainly using his fingers. Excellent shine.
beautifully done gents!
They need to be left alone while shining. Its like interviewing lebron while on the free throw line.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all! I was entertained They are true craftsman in their trade.
never seen anything of this before, watching a video of professional show shining in Tokyo, i got fascinated and shoe shining channel has been on my UA-cam line up to view and i watch them
That’s awesome! WhT an amazing technique
Awesome! 😘👍
They should really find a new host.
It's not the host, it's the format. He's acting according to plan. No matter how polished the host, I don't want to see him interrupting the competitors.
14:22 I don't understand how Alexey and Caleb look so out-of-breath and dabbing off sweat, while Yuta looked as cool as a cucumber and not breaking out in sweat (literally). Maybe Yuta had a lot more energy-efficient movements. @Kirby maybe next time have 3 cheap cams zoomed in on each of the contestants and have a 3-panel video ;-)
Brilliant.
Makes me want to shine my shoes now!
Kirby, it would be interesting if you'd do a video that looks very closely at a championship-winning shine, and points out in detail the aspects that the judges consider. Or, is it as simple as the reflection in the toe?
Beautiful
elegant oxford needs to join in this kind of event.
Winer guy show so much respect to everyone
You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to be a genius. Just find what you have passion for and be good at it.
Glad I'm not the only one who applies with fingers. I do bull by licking a polishing cloth though. As such I do consume a fair bit of shoe polish and as good as the Saphir stuff is, the best-tasting polish is Punch Neutral Shoe Polish (disclaimer: Don't eat shoe polish).
congrats Mr. Sugimura
I do think these events seem like an interesting and positive development. I do struggle with the presenter's style during the competition. Clearly an international audience is present, but the slightly stuttery presenting I feel detracts from the smoothness and general feel of professionalism of the rest of the event. :/ I feel mean saying it but it kind of jarred and distracted from the video for me.
Refreshing to see people are honoured for having a skill. Most millennial celebrities are just modern day street escorts selling their body to invisible people behind screens.
2-3 seconds of seeing the shoe close-up. In an 18 minute video of shoe shining. There wasn't even a comparison shot so that we could judge for ourselves. I think that was an oversight.
the host is so annoying...he is interrupting the contestants
Sure for 1/15 of the entire competion.
yes he is like that for all other competitions too, annoying!
Mr Allison I’d love to go to the next Championship, if possible.
I didn't know there was such a contest. I would have been pretty good at this (maybe not at this level though)... When I was in the Military, I wasn't that good at much...But I had a lot of extra time on my hands because I was under age 21, so when the other guys were out running around to the bars, I would shine my shoes/boots. they looked like mirrors on the tips.
Pretty neat! But we never got a shot of all the shoes next to one another or even a really good shot of any of the shoes...
Ok, youtube recommendation algo, now I know there's a goddam shoe shining world championship for heavens sake! Anyway, these guys are good, my shoes are not even near that state of finish.
Of course Caleb from Dallas would be there.
Superlative result but neglecting the brushes made me suffer a little, and... I’d like to ask Jason Dornstar to give us a replica in his Shine Dungeon... just to give us an original taste. Thx Kirby for the great 2 vids of the shoe & shine world contest.
maurizio ognibene I agree where is Jason
Halfway through the video I could see that yuta's shoe was shining and standing out, of the three.
I first thought this was some kind of comedy sketch like Monty Python
Intense.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
It would have been good to see close-up shots of the shoes.
Aquí en México también se la rifan
I wonder if Preston from "The Elegant Oxford" competed here? Maybe he would have won.
who knew there was a shoe shine championship ? ~ JDS/CT
“Now go get ya fuckin shinebox!”
Middle looked like a waxed car in the sun. I realize video is different from personal presence but it won't skew one thing and not the other. You can see your reflection in my shoes from 15 feet away, and even still I can't believe how glassy that middle shoe was.
all 3 did a great job if you guys like shoe shining check out! Jason Dornstar and Elegant Oxford
Hi Kirby ...would you please confirm which Saphir products they used ?
The russian guy Alexi with that blazer looks like a fashion model.
There is actually a world contest to shine shoes and one for making them as well?
Алексей👍Гордимся!
Upss Dornstar didn't make it I thought so hes got long time to reach these guys
👍🏼👞🌟
Hardcore
King shine.
I know nothing about the world, this year I found out there is Shoe shining championship. I should get out more.
understand the limitations... but 3 cameras would have been excellent.. one on each shoe shinner
For shining shoes at home, is it best to use mirror gloss before the coloured wax, as Yuta did here?
Seems like the gold standard?
It certainly produces a faster shine as the mirror gloss has a lower solvent content compared to the Pate de Luxe.
How can I apply for this competition?
It's bad to disturb in between competation. World chamionship.
good
The fix was in..
World shoeshining champs !!!
Who the fck knew??
How does one go about entering a contest like this? I want to practice up and go for the gold!
you need to search the mountains of rural Japan and find the master Shu-Shijn, who can teach you his ancient secrets of this art.. with years of relentless practice, day in and day out, you may be able to follow in the footsteps of the greats, but beware: many have tried, but most have died in the attempts, and only a chosen few will be able to succeed!
Yuta Sugimura nicknamed spittle
Japanese speed shines seem to be of a different caliber.
Well what do you know the Japanese guy one I think we all know their dedication to their craft is unmatched it's just the way the Japanese culture is
haha, they dont want to be annoyed😂
Mr Allison didn't compete because he is of another level 🙃
Wao hasta competencia de esto increíble cuando hagan una competencia de ensartar agujas yo gno 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
"Drinking!"
My kinda guy! Well done.
fun facts... only 3 people signed up for the competition. grand prize was a 20 dollar olive garden gift card.
The consolation prize was a book about the history of shoe polish, I wish the prize had involved food though...
they should record this like a football game. have pregame interview, and interview world champions and have them explain the logic and tactics being used by each person shining shoes. take all these questions, interviews, analysis and edit it into the event. Why only 3 people shining shoes contest? is there a qualifying process? How many people begin this process? if so show some of the qualifying events. the people who do not make it to the finals, maybe they could do analysis of the polishing process. How much do they win $5000? first place, $2,500 runner up, and $1,000 3rd place. If it could be $10,000 or more that would really give them incentive to compete.
In Russian chempionship you give us 1 pair and 20 mins) nice)
Jomboy needs to dissect this one.
I wish they had better table, it seems very wobbly
Well i think they are taking a cue from the master chef shows where they talk to the participants during the cooking , so nothing wrong in asking questions.
Otherwise it can be a bit dull for people watching at the show. So completely understandable. 11:45 Those guys must have been sweating under their coats ,lol.
Wheres the dornstar?
🍻
damn, u beat me to it :D
Next year, my friends. Next year.
He's got long long time to reach these guys my friend
Yeahhh bring him on
13:51 Hello guys what name of that sick leather jacket pls help me ?!!!!!!!!
Man this guy asking questions mid-competition
when will the Floor Shining Chanpionships will happen?
Interesting video. It's a pity they didn't remain focussed long enough on each person for us to follow one full cycle of the technique. And they should save the chit-chat for later! Poor performers.
Back when the word “Russian” didn’t strike any tone with me whatsoever but deep respect & love for their culture, art, & history…. As I once lent myself greatly.
I feel like the the only one that can go back to their country and be revered is the japanese dude. If you come back to USA and tell people you're the world champion of shoe shining nobody will care, but in Japan that will earn you respect.
Agreed
Leave them alone. Would you interview a boxer while he is in the ring throwing 🥊 punches?
Not quite, I would say it was more like being on a Food Network competition 😅
dammit diego
The obscure things one finds on UA-cam! Beautiful shine though.
How did I get here?
God bless the youtube algorithm
Drinking, in perfect English. A man of little words. Hat off.
