This is probably the best business advice I've ever heard or read in any book----EVER !!. I just watched it for the 3rd time in less than 24 hrs. I've been through the Accelerator program and I can honestly say that after 15+ years doing stuff online, Sam is the most legitimate "guru" I've ever come across. Thank you Sam for being legit and honest and for sharing your pricessless knowledge for free.

Hey Sam, super helpful content that you're posting. My response to this as a beginner is that I think it will be important for me not to reinvent the wheel to start, and to add the easy value to my clients' businesses. Then, when I've saturated that value space (and have the time/income freedom) the opportunities for competitive advantage will start to reveal themselves.
The mindset is important to develop now, however. I've definitely been guilty of thinking about how I'll be able to upgrade my lifestyle massively in the short term. Well, I've listened to your videos enough times to start having that mindset wiped out. Thanks for saying the hard stuff.

Can you talk specifically about young people who want to do consulting but don't have the experience like at all. Is it irrational to think I can be successful in this even though I'm young and inexperienced? Pls answer this Sam. I also hope you do a video on this. I tend to see you post videos of people already were consultants or know ads.

I always look forward to listening to your business insights, and a lot of the things you say in this video have been mulling over in my head for a while, especially since I've contemplated using contrarian strategies for my e-commerce business that no one else I see out there talking about. I can relate to you so much in this video Sam. I see so many out there trying to make a quick buck to showoff a lavish lifestyle, selling their courses and throwing up copy-and-paste strategies and products to sell online in e-commerce for short-term benefits, and it's really been something that's bothered me for quite some time. Moving forward, I feel much more confident in using the contrarian strategies and doing what is hard (which my competitors do not and probably will not be willing to do) to get a competitive edge in the long-term. It's certainly not going to make me the quick buck I see so many out there doing, but I know I can win and dominate years down the road. Thank you Sam for the depth and quality of your insights. It's quite refreshing and much needed.

Speaking of oxygen tanks (i.e. being able to survive a lack of profit), Jim Collins wrote a book "Great by Choice" which talks about how successful companies deal with risk, change and turbulence, how they survivr through challenging times
One of the things he mentioned was "taking lots of oxygen canisters" (when climbing mt everest, the successful team had enough canisters to make several summit attempts so they could bail and choose a better time).
The successful companies had plenty of reserves, which allowed them to be patient during challenging times, unlike the failed businesses, exactly like Sam is saying
The other two features (aside from "leading above the death line" desribed above) are:
    - empirical creativity (invest in many small experiments to test concepts before investing in a major project)
    - 40 mile march (keeping a steady pace, during favourable and unfavourable times, regardless of the conditions - don't overextend in good times and push harder in bad times)

Great content. As for the analogy of Walmart VS Amazon, it's important to point out that Walmart created its own moat decades prior to Amazon's birth. The key factor here is that Amazon leveraged a new technology (ie the internet) to pierce through Walmart's moat. When you decide to enter an industry, your best chance to get in is to find a weakness, usually via finding technical obsolescence. Once you successfully enter, it's your turn to create your own moat then don't forget to reinvent yourself by embracing new technologies and trying to compete with yourself ... defeat yourself with new products/services to keep the upper edge from competitors. That's all, cheers!
ps: I'm the founder of a social network for artists with 3M+ users called Green Screen Live. This is a SaaS business, which moat consist of a SaaS and a box. (ie a physical product). Keep up the great work, bye!

Of course Sam Ovens is dead on here, but there is a flip side on this -- you can invest massively into a long-term plan that flops. Then you're millions and years down. But then again... if you don't take a few years off from all the hell of it you can usually find a big opportunity and jump over to a new opportunity because the commitment to the failing project put you close to the heart of the market. But there is this aspect in play... long term investment can fail. Yet Alas! I agree, the long road is the smart road.

This is very true. If you look at Stanley Kubrick for example, you see a director who worked day and night on one movie for several years at a time and got amazing results. Compare him to Ed Wood who rushed out quick, cheap, careless movies and ended up being laughed at. It's the same in all industries. The big winners are long term thinkers and they are very persistent and very committed. Although many people dislike Donald Trump, he is one of the most persistent men I've ever seen. And if you read Think and Grow Rich, the whole book is about persistence and purpose.

Have systems. Master one thing only. Have ONE brand. Your business can’t be ruin by your expensive lifestyle. BUILD A TEAM. Lose short term. Take the risk and maybe take some hits short term. If you outsource ur work to a random contractor, that contractor is also doing work for other people. Thus, your work will be like other ppl. TEACHNOLOGY. Start building ur own technology. Like Amazon building their own shipping system. ASSYMETRIC WARFARE. If u have a competition, don’t play by th3ir rules. If everybody is doing this, you should do THAT. Don’t play by ur competitors rule. Read Made In America, Sam Walton.

Hi Sam, I think your review has strong points.
No one can question the sheer magnitude of what
Amazon has accomplished. However the argument
can be made that they are we weak on the cash flow
side. That may be a moot point now. You might also consider
cash flow. Apple $240B Microsoft $131B, Google 86B, Cisco and Oracle to
name a few. Cashflow is a huge factor addition to all
the many other assets of a company, the technological
Systems, human resources talent and stock price.
I'm not by anymeans some type of analyst. Just some
quick facts that can found on the internet. What are you thoughts on
cashflow vs some of the other factors such as talent, intellectual property, stock price etc.

The one thing that most people cannot do online is to build a business using only organic traffic. Why because it takes years to do it and you have to have long-term thinking to get it done. Most go for short-term thinking and will never attempt what I have stated yet people who do this get all their business for free.
