Is it just me, or isn't a game system that sets character development and roleplaying on the foreground as opposed to 'hard mechanics' not the best system for a one-shot? Because that stuff mostly blossoms, in my experience, over the course of at least a few sessions. Don't take that as "Don't do this!" by the way. It's the opposite if anything; give us more!
I believe they chose a 'Pocalypse-like engine cause they wanted to make this a character based session since it's about the organization and all. A mechanically intensive game would probably bog down the pace because people would need to familiarize with it.
That's true. More mechanically oriented games tend to be slow in the start if there are a lot of new players who need to be taught how it all works. With it being just a 1 session thing, having a light, easy to grasp system might be better. Otherwise there might be too much time focused on learning the mechanics as opposed to actual roleplaying.
6:56 Aaaand I see exactly why this game was chosen for this purpose! Man this is gonna be great! Just started a new game of Weaver Dice, and my character is somewhat a "tatsumi special". He didn't serve in the Second World War due to being far to important to the safety of London at the time, but because he is a cape and that isn't common knowledge, he was constantly barraged and attacked for not being man enough to serve, for letting younger men show him up and not living up to his role in society. Thought it was a neat spin on norms :)
If Hemlock had better control of her powers she could have absorbed all of the kinetic and thermal energy of the bullet and been unhurt after Riley saved her and her mother.... you need to learn physics Hemlock, be a better superhero.
xZeryu Adam has said numerous times that he doesn't like playing DW that much because making the game exhausted his interest in it. Probably why he only does one shots of it.
And then the girls should take a lesson in "show, don't tell" in terms of backstory. Especially in a one-shot the first hour just felt like a hugely wasted oppertunity to show us what their characters are all about, instead of reading us an essay about them.
Bartimusable Well, this system kinda demands that everyone knows that stuff, even if it wasn't SUPER relevant this time.I'm sure if they were playing Shadowrun or D&D or another "Aventure based" game it would have been a different story. I'm just stoked to see the players having done their part of the prep. Maybe I'm biased as a GM who really likes when players go above and beyond
***** Oh, i totally agree. I just think there's a nice middle ground. Especially on a show. If it's on a private game, those kind of talks are awesome. On a show i feel like it's cooler to have those talks beforehand and reveal stuff to the audience piece by piece. Then you're excited for every piece of information, instead of it just being an information dump.
Is it really the best idea for a one-shot to talk about the character backstorys for an hour? Kinda feels like that maybe should've been a patreon exclusive or something. Would've prefered a more "Show, don't tell" approach when it comes to the characters and their relationships. It's awesome that they prepared so much in advance. But the less we know initially, the cooler it actually is when we find out. This just felt like a bit of an information dump.
I sadly didn't like this very much, spending an hour out of 4 on character background doesnt leave much to actual play and it feels rushed once you get to the action, also it felt like not all character got the same screen time, and yes i know it's hard to pull of a one shot i'm just leaving my opinion, in short the character background should have been 20-30 minutes tops.
So this is a one shot and in one hour nothing has happened? That doesn't bode well at all. I hope by one shot they mean a couple of sessions with just a small arc rather than just one session.
IIRC: They have called quite a few things a "One Shot" that may end up actually being two or three sessions even. Heck, The West Marches was a "one shot" series for quite a while, and all it meant was a revolving cast. This could become a semi-regular series with multiple superheroes jumping in and out of cast. Maybe like Justice League or something to that effect. If the series gets good enough reception, and they enjoy themselves enough, we may see more of this.
Meh, this isn't as great as most of the other campaigns in rollplay's past. Maybe cause its a game that should be played in multiple sessions. I would not like to see more of this.
Oh my God, I am in love with these characters and want to follow them everywhere and I haven't even watched the second episode. FULL CAMPAIGN NAO.
In which Nightsass becomes a Superhero.
Can we please, please, PLEASE see this as a regular campaign???? :D

It's a one shot, but who knows, maybe it get enough likes to go to a full campaing.
RanwulfMaxwell
I definitely hope so, if only to see more of Nightsass: Superhero Edition.

SinerAthin
Yeah that's a fair point as well.
I have been waiting for a Superhero Rollplay for so long and now it's a thing. Yay.
I like this system much more than Weaver dice. The rules seem 100% more balanced.
Love their backstorys and character, this one shot is going to be awesome!
Masks seems like a good system to have a west marches feel, where it is a basically a series of interconnected one shots.
I have enjoyed both games. Can't wait to see the story continue!
I haven't even seen the actual game yet, but character creation already has me wanting for more than just a one-shot!
Anne looks like she's supposed to be The Crow sans the white portion of the face makeup.
Im in love w ShannonZKiller, her voice is heaven!

YESSSSSS I so have wanted a good superhero rpg game and it's so fricken awesome to see you guys doing it
It sounds more balanced than the other ones!
Saving the world, one lie at a time.... would make a great tag line
Yes! Was worried I wouldn't see more of Shannon or kaitlyn now that West Marches is done.
And JP said he hired another DM so there will probably be another new ongoing series.
Twitter. I don't think he's announced who it is yet though? It was a few days ago maybe a week?
Fairly sure he said something along those lines in a video about Patreon.
Is it bad that when they introduced the characters I tried to give them worm power classifications?
All copacetic! BTW Wildbow is making a game:
www.reddit.com/r/Weaverdice/
Dodger was supposed to be here instead of Kaitlyn but she couldn't do it :[
No Dodger is Dm ing her own one shot, She was never part of the mask plan
I had a feeling that Dodger would have been in this. Too bad she couldn't do it. I would've enjoyed seeing more of her on a rollplay show.
no
a feeling doesnt mean a anything
+Suilezrof HOLD THE PHONE!
I CANT FUCKING WAIT FOR MORE OF THIS SHIT
If Hemlock had better control of her powers she could have absorbed all of the kinetic and thermal energy of the bullet and been unhurt after Riley saved her and her mother.... you need to learn physics Hemlock, be a better superhero.
I will watch this first session of masks one shot if i am enjoying it
i would like to ask that this will be a full campaign please
Thank You
unless they change their plans it's a oneshot
Glad to see Shannon back again, she's always great on rollplay
"Mayor Koebel: She is your more durable replacement sister" ;D :D :D
It's nice to see 1. more females in roleplay and 2. that they are excited about playing (makes it seem a bit more professional).
If you want to see more females in roleplay, look up misclicks.
How many times can you say "like" in one sentence?
Man we really need a full campagin with Adam DMing his own game (Dungeon World) after this. Really wanna see that now
Now, I don't mean to blow your mind but I think that's a thing
there isnt actually afull campaign of Adam dming dungeon world. i think there're a couple of one shots tho.
xZeryu Adam has said numerous times that he doesn't like playing DW that much because making the game exhausted his interest in it. Probably why he only does one shots of it.
so wonderful !
I need MOAR!
Adam's majestic beard is able to counteract the lack of masculinity on this panel.
What?
+Woodthorn Adam's majestic beard is able to counteract the lack of masculinity on this panel
Marcus Garrison I don't get it.
There aren't a lot of men on the panel, but the beard is so cool and manly it counteracts this fact
Marcus Garrison What do you mean by 'counteracts'?
does this sound a lot like poor me? or is that just me?
can anyone link me to the pdf or where i can buy it?
www.magpiegames.com/masks/
Halcyon was the name of my prescription sedative. Good times
So where can I buy this game?
www.magpiegames.com/masks/
I've come here before and there is no buy button
what system is this?
thepostman257 literally just called masks, it's an apocalypse hack
The guys could take a lesson from the girls in character prep....
Oh my god yeah
And then the girls should take a lesson in "show, don't tell" in terms of backstory. Especially in a one-shot the first hour just felt like a hugely wasted oppertunity to show us what their characters are all about, instead of reading us an essay about them.

Bartimusable Suppose, although I didnt mind just because they were so excited to share about it!
Only Girl Power can save Halcyon City!
I know i havnt seen the rest of this. But i really want this to not be a one shot it seems really cool. Kinda like demigods
... why the FUCK is this only a One-Shot, JP?! D:
wasnt it like a patreon goal or something?
No, there was a goal for a new show, but it was a mystery new show and they decided to go with a different campaign.
Anne's make up makes her look mega angry and/or bored hahaha
Which is essentially what she is during stream when the trolls come in lol
get sparklez in one of these if you can. pls
AHHHHH KAITLYN HAD A GENDER NON BINARY CHARACTER AND THATS AWESOME
Well, she's known to play freaks.
+Brumpo Tungus y'know if I just said I liked someone playing a trans character and you call that freakish do you think I will agree with you?
staticsight I don't give a damn about what you think, I'm just stating facts.
+Brumpo Tungus No, you're spitting hate. Get the fuck out.
Did you just feed a troll and tell them to GTFO from a channel you have no ownership over?
ANNEMUNITION IS MOM
I love nb superhero Lex++.
right?
So far my fave has gotta be Hemlock, that bullet back(hehe pun)story was just gold
AUREY!!!!!

I want to make a comic book about these characters and call it girl powers. Any body else think that would be awesome?
Enough that that's a thing. Look up the webcomic Grrl Power. It's pretty great.
thanks for the suggestion, it seems really good

well they had to describe the characters o-o
Time spent laying the foundations for a good house is always worth the effort when the great winds arrive
*****
Which won't arrive because the house is getting dismantled later that day
still...
better then your house falling apart that day, and being really bland lol
Meh, this isn't as great as most of the other campaigns in rollplay's past. Maybe cause its a game that should be played in multiple sessions. I would not like to see more of this.
But if it's good for multiple sessions, wouldn't you want to see more to know for sure?
***** No, I'd rather watch Court of Swords, BoP, and Dodgers and the other oneshot.
Meh i would have enjoyed this but i cant watch this now since i know its a SJW thing.
VirtualHolocaust ????
dafuq is dis sjw shite
