This was so helpful!! I'm looking to start my own cash envelope journey & it can totally be overwhelming watching all these channels that already have a set system and all the cute supplies. You simplified it so nicely (:
Aw! I’m so glad it was helpful, Betsy! 🥰 totally felt the same when I was watching people in the beginning. It’s overwhelming! Good luck on your journey!! 💖✨
Great video! I’ve been budgeting for two years and I still learned some cool tips from ya 😀 I really liked the order of how you pay for things. I, too, list my savings first .. I actually list my emergency fund as a bill. I never understood the other layouts that had savings second to last 🤔 also, I agree about the temptation of getting new cash envelopes 😫 the struggle is real
Thank you for starting at the very beginning! I am almost 60 years old, and I've been slow to start this learning curve! So I was thrilled that you addressed exactly how to get started. Thank you!
Thank you for sharing this video! I love that you are so straight to the point and explain it really well, it's a bit overwhelming with so many videos that pop up about cash budgeting. I'm just starting my budgeting journey and this was so helpful.
Wonderful topics! I’m a new budgeter and looking forward to sharing my videos and saving my money too. In fact, I actually started budgeting in October 2021 to advance earlier with my 2022 budgeting and saving money.
Loved this, definitely learned some new tips! I’m working towards a zero based budget but seeing my bank account with a small buffer at times makes me nervous and gives me anxiety in between pay dates and paying bills! Lol. New subbie ✨
haha I know that feeling! I had to save up to keep a buffer in my account at all times because the anxiety of potentially overdrafting was too much! 😂 Thanks for watching! 💖
New Subscriber here. I just found your channel and am very excited to be following and supporting another fellow budgeter. Great video, you explain it very well.
Thanks for being so clear and this is a great short informative quick on the subject about how to do this. I’m simple and what you stated I needed to hear this and I had just ordered like you said an A6 from Amazon like yours only 1 then start watching other videos and saw I needed more. I said no get that one and go from there feet that one set up 1st. Keep this video up it is the only one the is short that I found. I subscribe too ! Thanks
You just earned a new sub! i probably won’t start a cash budgeting system until I’m older (I’m only in high school) but thank you so so much for explaining this! have a great day and thanks for the awesome video :)
It is definitely a struggle because everyone is doing fun challenges! 😆 I decided to do the 100 Envelope Challenge to save for a house slowly as I pay off debt, but my first priority will definitely always be paying off my debt! 😊
I just got my budget binder from Amazon a couple weeks ago. Im still a noob on the cash envelopes and budgeting but I already started to save a bit for my student loan payments for next year.
Question, with the sinking funds, do you just pull money from the binder when you need it? Or do you put it in the bank? Or you only take out your efunds and put it in the bank?
Great video, I have question and I'm struggling on what to do. I get paid weekly and im just lost and confused, on billing expenses. I have 9 credit cards ( trying to pay it off) . Lets just say there minimum amount is $50 on each card so every week i go to the bank and take cash out and stuff in my credit card envelope. Sometimes i don't have time to go to the bank and this method isn't working so im trying to see what you suggest or something.
Hi Helen! I definitely had an issue with that too in the beginning. My solution was to open a checking account I only use for billing. When I got paid, I just transferred the money in my main checking account to my billing account and have the bill draft out of that account. It does the same thing as a cash envelope (setting aside money for a future date) but it helped me not miss deadlines because I couldn't go to the bank in time! 😊 Hope this helps!
Of course! I split my envelopes into my spending envelopes, bills, and high priority and low priority sinking funds. Cash Envelopes: Spending, Groceries, Entertainment, DoorDash, Eating Out, Miscellaneous, Gas Bills Binder: Monthly bills, Invisalign, Annual Bills, Property Taxes, Car Registration, Car Insurance High Priority Sinking Funds: Emergency Funds, Health, Car Maintenance, Personal, Self Care Low Priority Sinking Funds: Gifts (pretty much just Christmas, Mothers Day, and Fathers Day), Birthday, Clothes, Beauty, Household, Budgeting (if I want cash envelopes or something), New Phone Hopefully this helps! 😊 Good luck!!
Question! So, you cash your whole check and distribute all your funds into the binders? Every time you have to pay a bill you just place that money back in your bank account before the charge goes through? Sorry, I hope that makes sense. I really want to understand because I really want to try this method for budgeting! Thank you!
So, you cash your whole check and distribute all your funds into the binders? No. This is an example: $1000 payday. Need $600 for envelopes. Put the $400 balance in your checking account.
Do you have a specific way you withdrawal money for your envelopes? Like certain amounts of all the bills or do you just withdrawal from the atm and go with what you get?
I always plan out my denominations beforehand! At the end of my budget with mes I fill it out, take note of the denominations I want, and give that breakdown to the teller at the bank. 😊
New subbie here! thanks for explaining it really well :* since we all know that everything is better digital nowadays esp for savings, do you still prefer to do cash envelopes?
Hi there! Sorry for my late reply. Was on a bit of a UA-cam break. I will say that it depends on the person. I've tried cashless saving and cash envelopes and it's made a world of difference to see how much I'm saving because it pushes me to save even more than I was planning to. To make it easier, I do a hybrid approach where all my money for subscriptions stay in my account for autodraft. I also spend with a credit card but having cash in my envelopes reminds me that I can only spend the amount I've allocated for spending, groceries, etc. Cash envelopes definitely helped me have more boundaries with my spending. I know this is a long winded response, but it's such a good question!
I’m so confused. So with this system, the paycheck gets deposited into the bank, gets taken out, then put back so you can pay your bills? Is this what cash stuffing is?
Thanks for this video. I been wanting to try this but I’m still trying to understand what is the point of taking the money out of the bank to put in cash envelopes to then put the money back in the bank. Can you help me understand that part? Maybe I’m missing something.
I’m just starting this way of budgeting as well. I think for most people when they see the money in their checking account, for example $600, they believe that is spending money. They don’t take into consideration of bills, emergencies, or other things. This way of budgeting helps sort the money to save for specific categories. So instead of seeing $600 in your account you now split that up to multiple topics. Say $50 for shopping, $300 for groceries and the rest for utilities.
I'm assuming if your paycheck is direct deposited to your bank that you have to withdraw all the money first to use cash for stuffing. Would think it would be much safer in the bank than accumulating all that cash in the home. Do you lock all your binders away in a secure safe? I sure hope so! Think I'd rather do the budget just on paper and leave all that money in the bank. I understand it's probably more fun to play with real cash, but safety first!
Yes! Safety is also a concern for me. After I save up a large amount of money, I'll deposit that cash and put placeholders in my envelopes to keep track of my total in the bank + the envelopes.
Welcome to the budget fam! 💖 I was super lost when I first started this system. Luckily, there are a lot of resources on UA-cam. Happy to answer questions! Best of luck in your budgeting journey!
haha thank you so much! 😂 I'm definitely not a teacher, but I know how confusing cash budgeting can be, so I tried to make it as accessible as possible!
Hi Alycia! That's a great start! 😊 You can find A6 (the size I have) or A7 (smaller and fits in you hand) on Amazon or Etsy. Just search A6 binder or A7 binder depending on what size you want! Good luck on your journey! 💕✨
Hi Denise! I usually roll it into another goal that I have. So if I have extra left in spending by the time I do my next cash stuffing, I'll take that money out and put it towards debt or a savings challenge. Hope that helps!
Thank you, that was so helpful. I am 60 and are just starting my cash stuffing journey. Better late than never x
