  • Hey budget fam! I hope you are having a lovely day on this beautiful Saturday! Today we are breaking down cash budgeting and doing a little Cash Envelope System 101, if you will. We are talking about what a cash system is and why we use it, how to organize binders in to bills, variable expenses, sinking funds, and savings challenges, and what you need to start your system. At the very end of the video I talk about exactly what I would do if I were just starting out! I hope you enjoy, and if I missed anything or if anything was unclear, please ask in the comments! This is going to be the video I link to and direct people to in the future. So any questions that you think might be helpful for others to read too, go ahead and ask! I can't wait to chat!
    Happy watching! With Love, Jordan

I would probably modify this method a tad. I'd leave the bills money in the bank since everything is on auto pay and only take out the cash for variable expenses for shopping categories such as groceries.

Remember, she said to wait on that binder until you have a months worth of bills saved, then switch all your bills to come out of bank account on the first of the month. Then you aren’t making a bunch of trips to the bank. Just to withdraw to get the cash, and then a trip to deposit the bills cash before the 1st

You are the first Etsy Shop owner who is so transparent as to tell newbies the cheapest way to start may not be immediately buying from your shop😁😁. I also liked the way you explain the beginning of going cash budget is not as smooth as it looks if you only watch people who have been doing a cash budget for awhile. I'm still working on transitioning. My Kryptonite is grocery shopping and cooking for one vs Spending more on delivery for one freaking meal (and of course using my debit card). You provided the perfect solution - that money can go to sinking funds or challenges.

Love this Jordan! I started very basic. I actually bought The Budget Mom printables and put them in a 3-ring binder. I used plain envelopes and pinched my pennies. I did start using an Erin Condrin with Sara Marie stickers a few months later to reward myself. Then I started making my own printables to save money. I only got my binders recently after budgeting for over a year! Great break down!

I started with SF envelopes like car mnt, emergency, house etc I didn’t do any challenges until I was ok to start taking more money out for some small saving challenges because I can’t do them all so I do the 5 or 10 dollar challenge and it adds up! @@kimmason8373 Im not sure how most people do it, but, I do automatic withdrawals for bills like auto/ renters insurance, cell phone, utilities, car payment. I have two credit cards. One I've paid off, and, the other is close to being paid off. This is all new to me so I'm still trying to figure out what works for me. In a short amount of time, I've made a lot of progress. I've always been an overspender and have never budgeted. Every week, month I was trying to figure out where my money went

I found you today. I love how helpful this is. I'm new-ish to this way of budgeting, and it can get overwhelming sometimes because I'm not sure about what sinking finds and savings challenges to do. Thank you for this!

Starting with 15 categories can be overwhelming. How about starting with just 5 categories?

I love that you were so helpful, honest, and upfront telling beginners to purchase from Amazon because it was the cheapest way to start doing this even though you have a shop and sell the same items! What a breath of fresh air to find someone with such a wonderful spirit! I hope you are blessed because of your amazingly selfless attitude! 👏🏾👏🏾 🤗🤗

Question: How do you know what kind of bills to ask for when you're at the bank? How many $20s $10s $5s $1s. Also, again like I said I love your challenges. I love coloring. It's relaxing and destresses me. I bought a journal on amazon but I do like the separate journal idea too. Thank you so much! I have a bad spending problem. Like you said if I have money I will spend it on online Gambline (I blocked myself) Food delivery, or Amazon. This will help sooo much!

You should assess how much you pay for each category- maybe write, draft for a month- and then you can say if you need for example 50 dollars for food and then 50 for sth else then you know that you need 2 bills of 50 dollars...
