Classic Game Room reviews ALL-STAR RACING for Sony PlayStation from 2002! 2002!? This sub-par driving game on the PS1 has four kinds of racing, all of which are awful. Drive stock cars, GT cars, supercars and classic cars!
Was quite shocked to see this was a 2002 title.
Should've been on the PS2 at that point.

I'm fairly sure at least one of the stock car textures (#93) was stolen from EA's NASCAR 2000 and then inverted.
This is one of the first times I've heard Mark sound truly annoyed by a game

So I saw this game back in the day in Blockbuster Video for 99cents. And I thought to myself, you know I've beating GT2 and GT3 all the way, and my racing need is never met. So let's just pick it up and try it. So I get home turn the game on, pick a race, and after the first corner I turned it off, and have never touched it again.

I was always curious about this one. I have All Star Racing 2 (yes... they saw a need for a sequel) and it doesn't seem to be any better than this one. Whenever you win a race it still says "GAME OVER" and takes you to the main menu. Also the game was made by a company name "Mud Duck" and their logo is a sitting duck that shit its pants. I'm not making that up.

This is like the generic games they play on TV shows to avoid licensing.

I remember this game when I played it 13+ years ago. Since then as of now I'm asking myself, why did I get this game?
I bet the developer of this game had this stored away since 1995, and finally decided to release it in 2002!

I found this game at Disc Replay for a few bucks. I've played it but was shocked when you said it came out in 2002. I would've guessed that this was one of the first games to that you can play on the PS1. You forgot to say NO progression what so ever. You can drive any car you want the moment you pressed the start button.
What happened to intergalagtic space arcade ? or has Mark turned to a octopus and that´s why there is no more those studio sections ?
When I was young I saw the case cover and wanted it. I guess this is the first game that got me hooked into racing games, even though I sucked at it.

I have the sequel, All Star Racing 2. It's got 4 racing modes, Trucks, Karts, Bikes and GP cars, and it has "a total of 20 geographically modelled tracks from all over the world". It adds memory card support, and it's also garbage.
This game might be the best game on Hyperscan... to bad it's on PS1. lol

All the cars sound the same too! Wow just wow! That's not even low budget bad that shit is just lazy! I mean Mark hit the nail on the head on this one! It's not very far fetched to believe that someone at Zenimax had this game on the shelf since 97 at just plainly forgot about it!
Can you review Hot Wheels: Turbo Racing? I think it's a fairly underrated racing title.

for whats it worth the texturing is pretty impressive for a ps1 game. frame rate looks choppy as hell but that might be because you encode to 24 fps.
Have you ever played a game called 'Racing' for the PlayStation? that has got to be the most generic racing (roll credits) game titles ever!

it actual looks OK for a ps1 game.
graphics seam OK for ps1, controls seam to be okay, he's not getting shunted or blocked by bad ai.
sense of speed seams ok, i don't see real game destroying bad corners or bad track design..
but obviously looking at footage of a game is very different from playing a game.
and there are some obvious issues (no sound to indicate you cleared the finish line..)
maybe it just ticks all the boxes of average and has a few issues that make you just want to keep it in its case
I'm thinking boringly average rather than terrible, there is a pal version on ebay for me to try.
of course 2002 haha, the PSX started getting the most generic low budget games at the end of its run.

The fact that this game is a low budget type is one of the more reasons why it's bad.

This almost looks like GT1/2. The same textures and the car models look rather similar.
I'm not quite sure but it seems that Mark didn't really liked this game, could be just my impression though.

My only issue is that you always compare these to GT. Not every racing game was trying to copy GT. Some were just trying to do their own thing. And the game looks pretty decent. It might even be fun while withdrawing the release year
