There's something about Gran Turismo 3 that makes this so much fun to play even today. The graphics have aged well (for a PS2 game), the driving mechanics are simple, the soundtrack, and tons of events... There may be more to do in later titles, but when you're racing, that's what stands out the most...
you play em on emulators with saves that already have the licenses, in 4k resolution with any controller you wish (even pressure sensitive X buttons on ps3 controllers...like in the ps2 days)
GT5 is too easy man no more license tests that yeah suck and are hard plus if you get XL version like I did I got a car that can't lose a 50K race so easy money I had all the cars in less then a month and got bored. I have 3 A-Spec and 2 just gotta get a memory card for 2 but the arcade was fun.
I think part of the reason that Gran Turismo 3 felt more "fun" was because of the vibe throughout the menus. GT3 had a similar upbeat feel with the menu layout and the music similar to that of GT1 and GT2, whereas GT4 onwards was when the menu music and layout didnt have as much colour to it and was more relaxing and serene.
I still have an original PS2 with my copy of GT3 plugged into my TV. I keep it there so that anytime I feel the need I am one button away from playing this. This is my favorite race game of all time.
+BlockABoots - The thing about that is just like in real life in some cars you're going 80 kmh yet it feels like you're going 200 kmh and in other going 200 kmh feels like you're going 50-60 kmh.
Warrior Man - You never experienced common sense. I played Forza games and couldn't care less for it. In general kiddie games where a hatchback sounds like a mustang etc. No thanks.
I like how Mark calls it a series and not a franchise. Franchise has this Public Relations connotation all over it that is makes it impersonal and sterile.
+thejompi It's how you tell someone really likes something, which is well made, and feels like it has a heart, a soul, or something like it, just something more... I love the Gran Turismo series, the GTA series is IMO the best of all gaming, Mario and Legend of Zelda are classic series... most older games from the Need for Speed FRANCHISE are really good, EA's FRANCHISES tend to have a few nice games. Ubisoft and Konami have been f***ing up their FRANSHISES a lot lately, maybe even ruining the chances of some new FRANCHISES they wanted to start, they don't want to start a SERIES, they want a FRANCHISE.
Even back in 2009, it was very rare to hear someone refer to a game "series" as a franchise like you do today. The concept of the novelty, merchandise and relations to the industry weren't as publicly known or accepted as it is today (which wasn't even that long ago). Really the only thing that was ever really coined a "franchise" back then was the Mario games/stuff. And you gotta remember...2009 was right on the verge of when games started getting a lot of rehashing, excessive sequels, etc. AKA creating "franchises". Where we had just came from the PS2 era, where TONS of new IP's has been released on PC, Xbox, Dreamcast, GameCube and PS2. Not to mention the PSone and N64 era before it. Innovation was key back then, so games were still being viewed as a more separate form of entertainment, rather than a multimedia juggernaut that it is today. (Even if games were huge back then, the mindset was still different).
I was starting to wonder about all the old reviews being uploaded. I'm sorry to hear about the in-game music issue. You are a big channel, and UA-cam should be treating you much better than this.
+Aspiration - YT simply doesn't give a fuck, it's so cheap there are no admins just all bots. One day you upload something the year later it's taken down by YT bot by mistake then you mail them and hope you get your video back.
+DjGodaryD86 Hey, how should UA-cam pay for all those thousands of humans admins this would require (and which still wouldn't suffice, as there are currently ~ 300 hours of video footage uploaded to UA-cam EVERY MINUTE) ? If you don't know, UA-cam has generated losses in all years of it's existence. It was never profitable, not even once. It just still exists, because Google is subsidizing it, in the hope that it might become profitable sometime in the future. So if you want UA-cam to be gone, they should just follow your suggestions of significantly increasing losses.
Frank Schneider I think UA-cam was breaking even in 2014. You are right they are so many videos uploaded an hour. I only wish they were better with their creators.
Frank Schneider Fact is they profit on everything and cut everyone else out, what you say that they are in loss is a fairy tale for kids. Again I do understand if you're using someone's content and try to profit off as a user you will get fucked and that's ok but actually I am talking about mistakes that happen here for years. My own music was mistaken with others, I got a notice, sent them a mail, everything was resolved but profit cut, few months later again a notice, profit cut, sent a mail resolved and it goes in circles and I simply got fed up with it and deleted all those videos. That was few years ago, now it's bit different, to say better but still isn't quite good enough. YT became an idiotic place and many people left.
Not just with this game either, it's like there's something missing nowadays. Games are just missing that... soul, I want that back, it' what made them so enjoyable, so much fun.
I said this in the original video before the meanbots took it down, but the great thing about gt3 was its sense of speed, if you were going at 170, it felt like 170, while gt4 had "fast" cars, it didn't 'feel" fast. The illusion of speed was something missing from the game that would have made it a million times better (not implying that it already isn't great).
This game feels like an arcade racer. Less is more. TBH, you have a feeling like you know all the cars and can predict them. I love how this game has many tracks but fewer cars. It makes it more special when there's less. GT6 and GT PSP are the worst because they are a mess, but you can tell they put a lot of passion into this game.
Screw 2009 Mark, I remember using Real Player to watch original gangster CGR back in what...2000 or 2001? Of course it was two dudes back then, but still...past Mark would be please with future Mark and where he is. You know...with the whole intergalactic take over and all.
It seems to me that when Forza became a serious challenger to the Gran Turismo series, Polyphony kinda lost their way and just tried to imitate. GT3 was fun as hell and they've gone downhill since. Both series do different things well, but no racing game has ever gotten me hooked like GT3, despite the relatively small number of cars.
I may only be 14 years old, but I've played this game ever since the start of my gaming career, which was when I was 6. Do the math, I've kept playing this for 8 years. I know all the race tracks, the cars, the licenses, and other stuff. My question is "how are the graphics so mint?" I will always remember this game. It made my childhood, along with the original star wars battlefronts.
This game really had it all. The one aspect I think you missed was that of the realism achieved when all assists are turned off and you're driving manual. It it so much fun when you really get into the flow. Even GT on the PSP was as great as GT3, despite lacking many of the features. The core physics and challenge was there in the same capacity.
Even if we can't hear Snoop, Mark... I must thank you. It was this same stock music in the Demon's Souls review that made me want the game. This is the best stock music track that you use.
What really killed it for me was NO USED CARS. Instant immersion killer when it lacks the feeling of buying your first car from the used car lot, picturing in your mind the dirty interior complete with potato chip crumbs and candy stuck between the upholstery. GT1 did this perfectly by making it feel like an actual dealership, walking onto the showroom floor, requesting to see the used cars, which the game proudly displayed pixelated interior photos on the buy/sell menu before showing you the lineup. GT4 bought used cars back, but it was grossly disorganized, going by generation instead of manufacturer; you don't go to a dealership and them have every model from every car maker organized by year!
I really miss when you would do "journalistic" reviews of games. That's what got me into your channel. You provided great insight into various facets of each game and added a bit of humor. Currently, well...it's mostly all "attempts" at humor. I find it highly disagreeable but it seems that this current style is what the people like. Thanks for all of the videos.
Oh God this game looks so good. I just rethought gran turismo 4 because that's the one o grew up with and loved and have never played this one. It was cool playing my ps2 again and seeing where I last left off back in 2008. I stopped playing because I bought a ps3 and never went back until now. Even replaying my ps3 and playing gran turismo 5 again is so much fun.
Its weird how a copyright sweep can catch all the video game reviews, but not the uploads of just video game music or hundreds of unofficial uploads of songs.
GT3 was wonderful; GT4 drove me to Forza. Forza 5 almost made me go back but then I remember GT5. GT5 prologue I sent back to Sony and got two games in return. I actually sent it back with a letter about how it was unfair to charge for a demo.
I have to agree, GT3 is still a very good game. I’ve only just recently started playing it again and I feel exactly the same way you do! This is where my passion for Gran Turismo began back in 2003 when I first started plying it. It was lots of fun, a couple of things that could have been improved I my view. One would have been to add in a B-Spec mode like in future GT games, since I like watching the racing more than actually driving. Second would be to feature all the hidden cars, including the Lamborghini Diablo GT1 (JGTC) and all the different types of F1 car in all of the gaming versions other than the North America and Japanese ones. Next a couple of minor things about two of the event races, one would be to include the other two German Touring Cars, the Astra and the Mercedes CLK in the Amateur GT all stars championship, instead of the rally cars. Second would be to have a better car line up and a shorter race distance for the Like the Wind race. The reason why I say this is that sometimes on the 20th and last lap the replay save cuts off, which is quite annoying since I really love high speed racing! In my view it should be 15 laps long like all the other TC races in the Pros League. Second take out the Lotus and the Zonda, which are just too slow and add faster ones. For me they should have Toyota GT-ONE Race Car, the Panoz Esparente GTR-1, the Mazda 787B Race Car, the Suzuki ESCUDO Pikes Peak, the Viper GTS-R Team Oreca, the Toyota Castrol Tom’s Supra and the ARTA NSX. And for the road cars they should keep the Viper GTS, the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34, the TVR Speed 12, the Supra RZ and include the Mines Skyline GT-R N1 V-Spec form the Tourbo challenge race. That would make an awesome line up of cars for Like the Wind. None the less everything else I couldn’t agree more. GT3 was a lot of fun, likewise was GT5. For me that one too had just about everything you could ask for with a close to perfect B- Spec mode, great quality line-ups and some nicely detailed premium cars! That's more that can be said for GT6 on the other hand, they seriously messed it up! For example in some races you had a Nissan Group C car in a race with a BMW Touring Car, how can you expect that to compete against a car that has about 500 more house power over. Not only that, the AI is seriously fucked up, the races in IA are too short, and the loss of endurance races like 24 hours of Le man for me at least was a major disappointment! So instead of taking your time getting through the races, which I prefer to do, instead it forces you to push your car above the limits and beyond leading to stupid uncalled for mistakes! Completely wasted my money on that one! Anyways that was a great review, and some nice work on the commentary!
I got a PS2 for my birthday on march 10 2002 with Gran Turismo 3 A Spec as my first game i remember not having a memory card at first so i could not play career mode at the time but after i got the memory card i played the shit out of gt 3
ruaan11 I got Gran Turismo 3 with a Platinum PS2 for my birthday in November the 9th 2002. I remember staying up with my brother trying to beat the endurance races like it was yesterday.
SOMEONE, ANYONE. WHAT SONG IS PLAYING DURING THE FIRST PART OF THIS REVIEW, NOT THE INTRO TO THE EPISODE THE MUSIC DURING THE REPLAY BEFORE PAST MARK SHOWS UP I must know what this song is.
I couldn't agree more. GT3 was the last fun one and in GT4 started the serious business to the better or the worse. And come on PD and Sony, where's the Gran Turismo on PS4? Xone already has three Forza games. Driveclub just doesn't cut it and that should have been the open world competitor of Forza Horizon 2 in the first place.
I kinda feel like the gt7 at least tries to emulate the feeling of the older gt's, personally, I like it more than gt 5 and 6 which I don't even want to try to learn how to play them again when gt7 feels like a modern version of gt4
i remember not having a memory card for some month and me and my dad had to leave the ps2 on for some months because we had gotten so far in the game... good times , great game
+Julian Guerra There are quite a few ways that you can win it I think, these are the ones that I can think of. 1. Win "Like The Wind". 2. Win the Mazda endurance race at Apricot Hill, the 787B is one of the possible prizes. 3. Complete 75% of the game.
im almost done with gt2 via eboot on psp, better late then never right? anyways once that is done, which will be soon, i will be moving onto checking gt3 out on ps2. btw your review sold me on the game
+Frank Schneider Alright, there is something called dailymotion and CGR has a channel there. Thank you. Now why don't you answer questions with standard sentences instead of questions?
Does anyone have the original video? Please upload it somewhere. This is really unfair, the Snoop Dogg song at the beggining was the best part of the review.
Watching this review makes me wonder if my Thrustmaster T300 or Logitech DFGT wheels work with the PS2. I played this for hundreds of hours when it was new, so much fun. Sony needs to hurry up and get us a Gran Turismo game on the PS4!!! Or at least the Sega 32x CD...
Gt3 is the best game in the series, imo. Followed by gt4 and 5... 6 was just 5 for me... It wasnt that different so i got bored in five seconds. To me, 6 was so that PD and the PS3 could make a few last bucks before the PS4 came out...
There's something about Gran Turismo 3 that makes this so much fun to play even today. GT4 is the best!
GT3 is, hands down, the best Gran Turismo. I have played GT1 all the way to GT6, but GT3 have this kind of fun that other GTs lack.
Farhan Mahalludin also other gts lack the ridiculous speed of the Great Escudo
Gt4 is better
"Gran Turismo 3 is the most "fun" on thr Gran Turismos."

GT3 was my fav GT game, put more time in to that game than any other racing game.
+OwtDaftUK What about GT4?
Gamez Geek I didn't like 4 as much. it didn't seem to handle the same. The graphics are insanely good though for the PS2.

So No Lambo's or Ferrari?? Do the other ones have those? do they have any high end sports cars in this? I'm sure they do but what ones?
Damn, anyway we can see the original review? I can see in your website it was indeed removed.
SOMEONE, ANYONE.
WHAT SONG IS PLAYING DURING THE FIRST PART OF THIS REVIEW, NOT THE INTRO TO THE EPISODE THE MUSIC DURING THE REPLAY BEFORE PAST MARK SHOWS UP
I must know what this song is.
I couldn't agree more. GT3 was the last fun one and in GT4 started the serious business to the better or the worse. And come on PD and Sony, where's the Gran Turismo on PS4? Xone already has three Forza games. Driveclub just doesn't cut it and that should have been the open world competitor of Forza Horizon 2 in the first place.
a spec was one on the best racing games ive ever played to date
I wish Mark would use that 2009 intro again! :(
Alright seriously what is the music at the beginning of every video?
I kinda feel like the gt7 at least tries to emulate the feeling of the older gt's, personally, I like it more than gt 5 and 6 which I don't even want to try to learn how to play them again when gt7 feels like a modern version of gt4
Didn't he already make a review of GT3? Why had this been reuploaded? Maybe copyright issues.
i remember not having a memory card for some month and me and my dad had to leave the ps2 on for some months because we had gotten so far in the game... good times , great game
THIS GAME IS MY CHILDHOOD AND WANT TO PLAY ON MY PS4
what's the name of the song at the end?
Ah, GT3. One of my first games I've played, and THE FIRST game I have for the PS2.
This game is good.
what's the song at the beginning?
I remember playing this game all day ... like it was so good ..... i wish they just change the graphics
One of the most reputable game reviewers on UA-cam
Name of the song in the beginning?
can you tell me how you unlocked the 787B race car?
+Julian Guerra There are quite a few ways that you can win it I think, these are the ones that I can think of.
1. Win "Like The Wind".
2. Win the Mazda endurance race at Apricot Hill, the 787B is one of the possible prizes.
3. Complete 75% of the game.
im almost done with gt2 via eboot on psp, better late then never right? anyways once that is done, which will be soon, i will be moving onto checking gt3 out on ps2.
btw your review sold me on the game
Can you do GT 4 if you haven't?
Could you post a link to the original review that did not get past UA-cam's censors?
+Craparella Smørrebrød
why don't you look it up on the CGR channel on dailymotion ?
+Frank Schneider Alright, there is something called dailymotion and CGR has a channel there. Thank you. Now why don't you answer questions with standard sentences instead of questions?
Craparella Smørrebrød
Why should I ?
+Frank Schneider Do you still beat your wife?
Craparella Smørrebrød
Why should I try to copy you ?
The 787b is such a beautiful car
Does anyone have the original video? Please upload it somewhere. This is really unfair, the Snoop Dogg song at the beggining was the best part of the review.
I just realized this is an old Classic Game Room production
I was so excited when granturismo 2 was coming out
I always wanted to know if there were cheat codes for GT3, because I never had enough money to have a competitive car even in the bottom leagues.
I wish they bring back the f1 cars and the Mitsubishi rally car prototype and some good from past gt games that because I love those cars
thank you sir for this.
This game with these "old graphics" and not many options like today's GT brings more joy watching than today's GT6.
Oh the Nostalgia.
Actually GT3 did have a Lamborghini it was called the Nomad hiroto Diablo race car
These rampant copyright claims have been getting ridiculous. Seriously UA-cam, either you fix it or gamers will move on to a better site.
