I don’t think there has been a month that has gone by since this was uploaded that I haven’t watched this. It’s one of my most watched and listened to videos on UA-cam no doubt. I’m so grateful for it.
I was blessed to see tom when i was 15 at buffalo records in ventura. Ive been following him ever since. Im 35 now and I still listen to his music all the time.
I saw Tom play last night with the Watkins Family Hour in Berkeley and I was ...struck. He is graciously vulnerable and alluring; a truly talented lovely man.
Unfortunately not heard of this guy. I fell across this purely because I run a UK Music Retail business and was listing a batch of his 2009 Posthumous Success LPs up for sale. Not knowing his genre I checked on UA-cam to take a 20 second listen. An hour later and 12 videos on i am still listening and watching. I am not generally a Folk or Folk Rock fan but wow ... what a talent and a nice guy as well ...keeping one of the LPs for myself now and looking for others!
having been in that position several times (conversing with the man...i opened for him on saturday...eeeeek!), I can tell you that he is...just...like...you see in this video...completely unassuming, gentle, generous...he's really something
I dedicate this to all humans who cradle their digital devices in their palms like its the hand of their child. It's past time to stop the obsession/addiction to your devices. When you're out and about, just put it away and pay attention to life around you. You never know what you'll miss with your head buried within a virtual world. The love of your life could have just walked right past you and you missed the opportunity to walk up and introduce yourself. Eternal happiness just erased for a few minutes of what? Reading status updates from people you don't even like....... Please world, come back to reality :)
Organiicis Theway: I agree. I was the one observing them in a very open public place a few months ago and it dawned on me that we've lost the connections we used to share with one another. Of course, that's not all we've lost; over hills and far away once, there was more of human kindness. Peace&Love! Bill
i dont know if youtube has cut down the framerate, but im kinda pissed that i cant see all the guitar pick strokes on this video. might be my computer. sue me.
Before I looked at who was playing, I thought it was John Samson from the Weakerthans. Listening more, there are definite similarities, but voices are a bit different.

watching this and seeing this comment is really making my day
If you haven't, check out his tiny concert in a tiny house - it's lovely. He's such a softspoken guy, we need more like him.

I could listen to this man for hours, I don't care if plays or just talks, I'll listen.

What a lovely man. Thank you NPR for continuing to introduce interesting new musicians to me.
Music so beautiful it almost hurts to listen to, as much now as 7 years ago when I first heard it
Somehow I feel like I've become a better person just because I listened.
Martha Somers that's what story telling does
I could totally see myself having a conversation with Mr. Brosseau. This guy clearly didn't let the fame get to his ego. Clear, resonant voice aside.

I'm always amazed by the sound quality in these videos.
Those are some magnificent guitars.
Tom got me through some truly terrible times. Thankyou.
❤️
That second guitar adds magic to what's already good!
^..^
A voice, a guitar, and an insight. Well, that's all you need.
HIs voice is insanely good
...I was just reading a WIRED article about kids and devices right before clicking on this video. Lovely music.
WGBH Music That's funny, so was I! What a coincidence.

Organicis Theway The new reality is the device.
Not mine
Yes, but overwhelmingly for many others who are not you. P.S. Fuck you very much for replying.
Yep. I'm not like the sheep and proud of it :)

Great, this Man, his playing, his voice, his Songs and his lyrics.
Can't get that first song out of my head. Well played sir.
Wonderful! Grand songs!
How many year later? I come back to this for catharsis. This lovely, heartfelt, beautifully raw and honest music.
He sounds like a Beatle. Love his voice and his song writing!
@Josiah Robinson, which Beatle?
Beautiful
He's everything a man should be.
seems like the nicest friendliest person ever
Well done !
Fantastic! Great emotion.
I love it that Tom is never quite sure he's going to make the high note at 15:30
this is just really good music.
Ramblin' Tom Brosseau
❤️
Holy shit this guy is good. The Fretboard Journal podcast with him is worth a listen.
Dearness. he is a bit of a throwback.
What a talent. Tones of Roy Orbison and Woody Guthrie. Really.
so soothing
Man, that Gibson sounds like perfection.
so beautiful and true
That is a beautiful man, no homo, and it looks like he has an awesome brooding sidekick. Nice music.
Great video!! One of us, Alexandra, just did cinematography for one of his brand new videos!!
show Tom more love ppl he deserves more than 828 likes
Great device song!
Tom's a great dude. Playing in St Paul tonight.
Anyone else cradling their device right now?
Isn't this guy in that band with John C. Reily also?
yes!

interesting tunes. Is your guitar a few hundred years old?
Before I looked at who was playing, I thought it was John Samson from the Weakerthans. Listening more, there are definite similarities, but voices are a bit different.
Well I don't know about the Roy Orbison comparison but his pearly whites are certainly as nice as Woody Guthrie's I'm quite sure.
you are aesome!b
Is it the folk standard now to have a vintage Gibson and Martin when playing in a folk duo? #TheMilkCartonKids
I love hearing these vintage tones. It's a nice change from the typical dreadnought boom.
...Isn't the Gibson a dreadnought??
Technically it's a jumbo, but yes. In all but name ;)
yes, yes it is.
It's called hybrid picking, invented by country players like Clarence White and James Burton.
damn it stop tickling my soul you baby blue eyes devil
His voice reminds me a bit of Gordon Gano.
Sounds like the singer from Neutral Milk Hotel
Cool guy. Looks like the son of Wes Anderson and Owen Wilson.
He looks like a politician, but jams.
If Norman Bates was into music instead of killing women.
Chad VanGaalen vibes.
The story is still going 😂
Just came back to check if he'd finished. He hadn't.
🔥🔥🔥
are you still listening in 2020 march

Mon nom de familles est brosseau
nowhere near a countertenor's range, at any point in this video. but hey great music so whatever
If you're going to compare every musician's vocal range to Jaroussky then you'll find yourself universally disappointed
