    This is one of the best SNL skits they've ever done. It's hilarious, topical, and surprisingly understanding of other people's views without just taking easy cheap shots. Go to the barber shop and see black and white folk sittin around shootin the breeze. Go to the river, pond or lake and you'll see white and black folk fishin and knockin back a few beers together shit talkin each other seein who's gonna catch the biggest. It's actually a shock for most of us when we venture out of our little neck of the woods and head up north or west for a vacation to places like NYC, Chicago, Cali & etc and all we see is black and white folk at each other's throats. It's not lost on us down here that whenever someone wants to portray a racist they immediately dawn a terrible southern accent but what's funny is all these hate crimes, police shootings and etc seem to be taking place in primarily non-southern areas..... more often than not they're in Democrat/Leftist controlled areas. @@ACoKyo It's laziness in the appreciation of art. I'm serious. Hear me out: When someone on YT likes something, especially when they're late to the party, they say it's underrated, as if it was up to someone else to have made them aware of this nice thing. If it weren't underrated, they would have heard of it by now, right? That makes it someone else's job to make people aware of good art (especially from the past), as if it hadn't been celebrated massively already, perhaps even overrated, only some person hadn't heard of it before, so now it's underrated. People will say a band like Journey or an album like Pink Floyd's The Wall were underrated when really they just hadn't bothered giving them a listen. That's okay too. They're old.
      I'm all for flexibility in word use (language evolves), but this is just self-focused and lazy. People need to discover art in their own way and say wow! when they like it, not put the rest of the population down for not having appreciated it enough to bring it to their attention earlier. If something is underappreciated, that means most of society doesn't get it but I do.

    Besides the fact that this is very intelligently written, Keenan finding the timing and tone to be both the straight guy *and* the ridiculous one is amazing. He makes it look effortless when he perhaps only had a rehearsal or two. The precise look on his face and the way he agrees in surprise absolutely sells it, and he performs it live. I'm actually one of the few that isn't big on Keenan but I'm starting to realize it's because when he does everything he makes it look absolutely natural.

      @swarmofbees 8 років тому +43

      My take away is that people are 90% the same but the rest of the 10% really start defining who we are, in a lot of ways. This is why all the contestants were equally picking off the answers throughout the game show and why, when it came to Final Black Jeopardy, Doug was clearly going to lose and the host and other contestants clearly took issue with it. Black people feel marginalized and the single white guy couldn't see it from this perspective.
      But, I definitely agree with you that this was hilarious and ballsy.

    • @Smok-wu3nq

      David Lor Let me ask you something. Since the installment (or election) of the countless black aldermen/women in the black neighborhoods, how much better have those neighborhoods fared economically, safety, and crime wise? Was there the improvement that was supposed to have been seen? I havent seen it. It just looks to me that the only blacks that had an improvement were those elected and their own inner circles. The rest stayed the same.

    • @JudeMalachi
      @JudeMalachi 8 років тому +32

      David Lor your comment just goes back to Berk's original point that people are actually separated by class and not by race.... If a black person feels marginalized it is largely because of some notion instilled into them from this idea of being part of a "black community" that is separate from the mainstream American culture at large. The political class both fosters and utilizes this exactly so that it can create the conditions where we believe ourselves, as a society, to be separated by race. So in a way we really are separated by race, at least apparently, but this separation is artificial and contrived having been created so that we don't become wise to the fact that it is only class that is separating us, naturally, in truth, in our so-called "classless society". This is why working class people of all races intuitively understand that the game is rigged and they are being conspired against. The real conspiracy is, of course, nothing like they imagine, but what they imagine has been fueled by the unconscious awareness of what is really happening to them.

    • @swarmofbees
      @swarmofbees 8 років тому

      I see the same change in other communities as well. What do you suppose is the culprit to this lack of change? And how can we address it?

      @@QGonline The people who get offended see the kneeling as disrespectful to our flag and our country, which is absurd. It is literally the most passive, peaceful thing you can do to show respect to the people of color who have lost their lives in senseless acts of violence. This is one of the main reasons why people on the left and people on the right are always fighting. People on the left are not afraid to face these harsh realities directly, while people on the right want them to go away because they don't like feeling uncomfortable and having to address their own flaws.

      I guess my "Cecil" is Bill, but he's an old farmer that fixes stray cats on the regular. Catches the males, sticks em in a boot head first, laces it up, whips out a pocket knife, and gives them the snip in about 30 seconds. Untie the boot, and off they run like a bullet.

      It's the fact he played him subtle. I think most actors would make that character over the top but Tom played him so believable that everyone can recognize that uncle/cousin/neighbor (or even themselves) in the character. The goal of the sketch was to see that there was lot more middle ground in the African Americana and poor white experience than people really think of (but ended, still using comedy, with the biggest thing that divides, racism).
