I’ve had shadow for over 2 years and can attest that wile they are still a smaller company with growing to do. It’s been a great experience for the price.
@@apollo8347 Shadow just provides you a PC where you can purchase your own PCVR games on. Although, of you have crossbuy games on the Oculus store, then technically those will already be owned/free on your Shadow PC.
Been using shadow vr and this is a very well done review. Running on a cheap pc and using oculus it is a fantastic way to access PCVR, I play blade and sorcery with a 1000mb connection and still experience a decent amount of lag. Frame rates can go up and down depending on size of the game, but it is definitely worth the price of what being paid for. I’m using shadow boost on an annual plan and I recommend it for people who want to experience steam vr. Of course do not come with the highest expectations but rather with the optimistic mindset that u are being given the opportunity to try something out at a stupid cheap price. For people who do not have a pc I would rather recommend having one, needing a good pc again is not required. I bought a random $50 pc off OfferUp which is a HP COMPOQ 4000 PRO SMALL FROM FACTOR and I’m still able to use mods on oculus as well with it. Again highly recommend trying out shadow if available for you. Mine took 3weeks for mine to come in and hopefully it can come quicker for u if u decide to hop on the wave, if y’all have any questions it can be scary to go into shadow vr as not many people are using it. But respond to this or txt my IG if u need any help!
You just sold me on VR. Been using Shadow for 2 years now, love their service. Knowing how well Oculus and Shadow work together has made my decision much easier. PC/VR gaming for life, forget console gaming. BTW I stream shadow to LG smart TV as well and just hook up keyboard and mouse.
I'm so glad you covered this. This has been on my radar and it's nice to have the Virtual Reality Oasis stamp of approval. Do you think we should go ahead and play Half Life Alyx on the Shadow Boost? Or should we wait for access to the higher end cloud plans to be available? Thanks again!

That's true, I think they were one of the first services when it comes to cloud gaming, the fact that they're still around and evolving is a statement nowadays
@@hugh_gene i still use it and I'm not ending my subscription anytime soon. Yeah they were some of the first offering such level of freedom in a cloud pc for gaming for such a price. They had to make a name by keeping price low and I think the whole bankruptcy thing was scripted and forecasted to evolve into a new company and then double the price. Nonetheless 30€ X month is 360€ per year which for a good gaming rig, means at least 5 years of subscription worth (to have a comparable pc you need to spend in-between 1200/1500€) and they keep evolving, offering services and stuff. Plus I can run it anywhere, I don't have manteinance costs (no broken hard disks, no broken pc parts) and easy life if windows breaks and doesn't start again (just reset the whole thing and in 30 Mins you have a fully new win 10 machine). I'm so glad this exists
I've been a Shadow user for over 2 years and been an infinite subscriber since it was announced. Knowing I can now do VR with it just makes me love the service more. time to buy a Quest 2. Great review
eat your heart out Ebay scalpers I'm playing Half-Life: Alyx edit: never mind it was all out of stock and I just nabbed a new graphics card and virtual desktop right after.
Holy hell! This is a game-changer for an Apple device household. I'm not a hardcore gamer but there's a lot of PC VR games I would like to try out. THIS changes everything! I don't have to buy any additional hardware that I don't want plus take advantage of my 5G 90mbps internet service. This is perfect!
All I can think seeing him sit in that chair playing squadrons is "good...Good, let the hate flow through you." But I'm thrilled there's a new avenue to make VR more viable to the masses. with services like this someone can have higher end experiences for the price of the Quest 2, and a monthly subscription (though technically also the cost of internet and a router.)
You'd still wanna get a gaming pc as of now I had all three tiers and it's definitely good to see how pcvr is prior to buying one but huge difference in quality experience when having the physical pc
I have already ordered this just waiting to be activated apparently it’s gonna be happening half way through this year but I’m sure it’s worth the wait
I've been waiting since early december and should get mine activated soon, good luck with yours! mine may be activated earlier than originally said so there is hope.
After having a dabble of VR via the cloud with Quest 2 & Shadow......mind blown! But it's not quite there yet. Much like cloud gaming doesn't quite enable you to really play fast paced shooters. It's close, maybe a few short years, but imho (I'm sat here with a 3080, 5800x, 32gb ram) after spending 3 years with shadow, I genuinely feel it's the future. I bought my own PC just to get a good feel for PCVR, and the difference is noticeable. Cloud gaming WILL take over....it's very very close. Edit: thought it worth adding that my latency to Paris server from UK often differs between 17-25ms. Better than the UA-camrs connection. I guess some are just more sensitive to that latency than others. This is not a hate on Shadow...Blade are WELL ahead of other cloud services. Absolutely brilliant service and something I highly recommend trying.
Yeah man! I was originally so surprised how good it works! Even when I’m at my friends and they have 2.4ghz WiFi it still works with sometimes a low of 15ms of latency!
@@kaidanalexander2840 yeah... I ordered on the 26. November 2020... and I’ll get activated at the 24. March 2021... but in some states in USA, there a waiting time of under two weeks...
You can buy your games though steam though. So you own the games, but not the windows computer. Which means, you can just buy another computer later in life, or a different virtual PC, and download your games again through steam using the same steam account.
I use a Shadow in Paris from the UK. I regularly use No Man's Sky, Elite Dangerous, Project Cars 2 and Flight Simulator 2020. I run a Virgin Media Hub3 5g router. Some games need tweaking (fs2020 especially) but I am really amazed how well it runs. I can run it all through my phone!! I am looking forward to the final release of the Shadow app on the Quest.
Our nearest shadow data centre is in Paris and its not an issue No VPN is required, they do have plans to probably build a data centre in the UK at some point but unfortunately the current pandemic has slowed progress down somewhat hence why many are still waiting for access to the service.
I don’t know. For the Netherlands it’s supposed to be available in June. Don’t know how it would turn out for London but I would expect the same though.
Shadow is available in the UK without VPN. However, there is a long waiting list. I ordered my subscription in December and it won't be ready until June.
The issues with latency never goes away. I play wow for years and i know that latency needs to be as low as 20 so you wont feel it. And that latency cant be reach if you want to use internet and wifi together. Specially for VR that all your body moves, having latency even 50 ms sucks i think. but well its good to have options. maybe some people wont have enough money to buy a good pc. If the server is strong enough and the internet can keep like 30 ms, it works nicely for these people i think.
Man, I was preparing to spend $3,000-$4,000 for a high end gaming PC...I just signed up for Shadow. Even the high end $40/month plan is a steal compared to a $4,000 PC. Less electricity usage for me too.
I use the service for about two years now and VR since the Quest 2 release and loving it! However once you have signed up for Shadow. Prepare for a long wait till your Shadow PC is active.
"Is The Future Of VR In The CLOUD?" Probably if Facebook has anything to say about it, because it means it can control every part of the service and experience, and there will come some advantages and a lot of disadvantages with that.
@@rowannonya7203 Yes, 100%. Install Skyrim VR on your Shadow PC, an use Virtual Desktop to stream to your headset. As long as the game supports Oculus, it should work.
Have this service and it’s awesome. In Chicago they have a Shadow Ultra tier with RTX 2080 performance. I use this and it’s a big improvement over the vanilla Shadow Boost that Mike is reviewing here. I use it for MFS 2020 and Squadrons, and launch the service through my phone connected to Xbox controller (neither game supports Oculus controllers). It’s remarkable to launch and play heavy PC games without even having to turn on a PC or laptop. You need a low latency connection for this to work well. I’m at 15ms.
Why use a cloud PC with extra latency and cost when you can just use the Quest 2 normally? It is quite capable. Also, the description says that the game is GTA V.
This was the first thing I imagined when I booted up virtual desktop wirelessly for the first time. Low key when I move I might just beef up my phone, have a subscription of this, bring my mouse and keyboard and use the headset for my monitor until I can afford a solid pc.
I've been playing pcvr this way for months now using paperspace which is similar to shadow but actually cheaper as there monthly subscription is £7.99 but I upgraded the storage to 500gb which makes it £10 mth then its roughly 40p per hour to play and that's for a RTX card plus I run it straight from the oculus browser no PC needed...I've just completed HL Alyx last week and it was a blast last month my bill came to £12.95 and I played it everyday !!

Honest question. I have a shadow server myself to hook up the quest two. Which is amazing! The only issue is that the mic is not getting picked up through shadow. So you know how to fix this? I've tried going into mic settings through both the server pc and the headset with no luck
Shadow is my daily driver PC. I'm currently on Boost but will be upgrading to ultra or infinite as soon as I can. Combine Shadow with Gamepass Ultimate and you have the best bang for your buck IMO. Latency will always be an issue but Shadow manages it extremely well.
Since Yesterday it has become a lot easier to play PCVR wirelessly on your Quest/Quest 2 using your Shadow or local PC. With Virtual Desktop 1.20.0 all you need to do is install Virtual Desktop on your Quest and its streamer on the PC. And your good to go! No developer mode, no ADB drivers, no Sidequest required, no patching. Just click on the Games section in Virtual Desktop, launch the game and enjoy!
@@jaydoo3014 You will not need a PC per say, but an instance of Shadow PC has to be running for VD to connect to it. I personally use my Phone to start up Shadow and the VD streamer and then I use VD on my Quest to start the game and play.
You need a laptop or desktop, there’s no way around it. Also, I assume you’re using this with shadow and have a shadow subscription since otherwise you wouldn’t be able to use virtual desktop. You’d have to borrow someone’s laptop or desktop and connect your oculus quest 2 to it using the USB-C cable and do all of that, and you also may need a usb a to usb c adapter if the laptop or desktop you borrow does not have a usb-c port already. Sorry man, it’s impossible to install the virtual desktop patch without a laptop or desktop.

I've been beating the cloud gaming drum since I got into Google's original streaming test and played AC: Odyssey. I've been fortunate to be on gigabit Internet plans for the majority of the past few years, so stuff like that and xCloud have been pretty great for me.

The mysticle did an awesome vid on this as well!
Does all levels of pc run vrchat?
I'm so glad you covered this. This has been on my radar and it's nice to have the Virtual Reality Oasis stamp of approval. Do you think we should go ahead and play Half Life Alyx on the Shadow Boost? Or should we wait for access to the higher end cloud plans to be available? Thanks again!
Even shadow boost is not available. If you order a shadow now you'll get it in july. A lot of people in waiting lines...
Sign up for Boost and get on the waiting list for the Ultra plan would be what I would do []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis indeed that is what you have to do. If I remember well you cannot even get the extra stuff from their website, you need to have boost first and then sign up for an extra plan from inside boost. But that is for boost that if you order it now you'll get it in july.
@@VirtualRealityOasis in fact I just checked. If you order boost now you'll get it end of august now.

I own a Shadow and I higly recommend it to everyone. Many water has passed under the bridges of Shadow company and it's still up and running great
That's true, I think they were one of the first services when it comes to cloud gaming, the fact that they're still around and evolving is a statement nowadays
I'm so glad this exists

eat your heart out Ebay scalpers I'm playing Half-Life: Alyx
edit: never mind it was all out of stock and I just nabbed a new graphics card and virtual desktop right after.
There's a bunch of quests out there. they're making them too fast and VR is too much of a niche market for them to be scalped.
Did you try Best Buy in store?
@@Dtr146 That's not even remotely true. Quest is still sold out in every store.

Holy hell! This is a game-changer for an Apple device household. I'm not a hardcore gamer but there's a lot of PC VR games I would like to try out. THIS changes everything! I don't have to buy any additional hardware that I don't want plus take advantage of my 5G 90mbps internet service. This is perfect!
I’ve had an eye on Shadow a long time but you have to wait months to get it so i don’t want to wait
Yeah Shadow also needs to buy GPU's and CPU's which are not available. So that why you need to wait untill summer.
I mean you might as well buy it now and get in line, especially you should have bought it before Christmas cause that really upped the wait times.
All I can think seeing him sit in that chair playing squadrons is "good...Good, let the hate flow through you."
But I'm thrilled there's a new avenue to make VR more viable to the masses. with services like this someone can have higher end experiences for the price of the Quest 2, and a monthly subscription (though technically also the cost of internet and a router.)
great video! wish i knew about it before i bought my gaming pc a month ago 😂
You'd still wanna get a gaming pc as of now I had all three tiers and it's definitely good to see how pcvr is prior to buying one but huge difference in quality experience when having the physical pc
Road to 400k!!!! Keep up great work 👍
I have already ordered this just waiting to be activated apparently it’s gonna be happening half way through this year but I’m sure it’s worth the wait
had mine since august. 100% worth the wait

I saw another vr youtuber who made a video about Shadow, and I immediately pre-ordered it. It’ll be activated my the 24. March...

I waiting for shadow to be available in London. How did you managed to used here? Did you use a VPN?
Our nearest shadow data centre is in Paris and its not an issue No VPN is required, they do have plans to probably build a data centre in the UK at some point but unfortunately the current pandemic has slowed progress down somewhat hence why many are still waiting for access to the service.
I don’t know. For the Netherlands it’s supposed to be available in June. Don’t know how it would turn out for London but I would expect the same though.
Shadow is available in the UK without VPN. However, there is a long waiting list. I ordered my subscription in December and it won't be ready until June.
Jesus for the past couple of months I have been searching for people who tested shadow, finally a good use for it thanks

Probably if Facebook has anything to say about it, because it means it can control every part of the service and experience, and there will come some advantages and a lot of disadvantages with that.
Basically you’ll pay to use the device and they can take ownership whenever and you have to agree to it
The Shadow Boost specs are pretty much my current PC, which is now at the low end of VR requirements for many new games coming out.

Would this be viable for any game, like Skyrim VR ??
@@rowannonya7203 Yes, 100%. Install Skyrim VR on your Shadow PC, an use Virtual Desktop to stream to your headset. As long as the game supports Oculus, it should work.
Alot of the games i play on shadow pc make the controllers not work in the game do you know how to fix it
Have this service and it’s awesome.

This was the first thing I imagined when I booted up virtual desktop wirelessly for the first time. Low key when I move I might just beef up my phone, have a subscription of this, bring my mouse and keyboard and use the headset for my monitor until I can afford a solid pc.
I have shadow ultra and recommend getting it but if you do have like at least 5ghz WiFi or if you have 2.5 ghz be right next to or close to the router

Shadow is my daily driver PC. I'm currently on Boost but will be upgrading to ultra or infinite as soon as I can. Combine Shadow with Gamepass Ultimate and you have the best bang for your buck IMO. Latency will always be an issue but Shadow manages it extremely well.

Why not use the shadow app on the quest itself? Seems way better than having your pc stuck in the middle, adding latency.
With the way gpu prices are juiced this is the best way around it for at least a year or even more

I've been beating the cloud gaming drum since I got into Google's original streaming test and played AC: Odyssey. I've been fortunate to be on gigabit Internet plans for the majority of the past few years, so stuff like that and xCloud have been pretty great for me.
As far as I'm concerned, it's only a matter of time. There's a lot of work to be done with our wireless infrastructure to make cloud gaming viable for a greater number of people, but I see it as a matter of when, not if.
what if you already have a gaming pc? can you use your gaming pc as a cloud pc so you can play your pcvr games remotely?
