I've used this for nearly 7 years - my wrist is smaller about 6.5" - this watch is perfect, it almost becomes part of your body. I will always have a square - and I've owned a vintage prestigious Swiss automatic - the new 5610u is something I'm aiming on acquiring.
It's nothing to do with the size of the lug width, I have a 9-inch wrist and this G-Shock GWN-5610 fits perfect and is the most comfortable watch I ever wore. Looking at your daily beater it a twenty dollar Wal-Mart Casio, I think your returning it because it's above your budget, for everyone who has purchased this fantastic timepiece would never ever consider giving it up!
That's pretty stupid. By your logic if you have a really great pair of shoes that hurt your feet you should keep them. I have and like this watch but there are plenty of other watches I would get if this one didn't fit me or I decided I needed different feature set or style. I would return it in a heartbeat too.
Not the lug width, but the lugs are angled, and the opening distance between the top lug and the bottom lug, not the lug side-to-side distance. Casio actually has a photo on Gshock.com to illustrate the difference between different size Gshocks. A person with a narrow yet thick wrist will fit this watch fine, but if you have a wide and thinner wrist, then it could be uncomfortable. If I do another Casio-related video, I will embed that the size chart photo.
I purchased this 5610u 6 months ago and immediately noticed the same thing about the lug to lug measurements and the watch band angle not being flexible. I have around a 7.5” wrist and the watch just didnt fit well and was very uncomfortable. The band would squeeze the side of my wrist and the actual watch would be basically floating above my wrist. Horrible fit for anyone with a normal or larger size wrist. This watch is absolutely made for people with small wrist. I almost returned mine but I just love the watch so much I decided to just keep it and see what happens. I thought about replacing the straps as there is a adapter to help with the strap angle but ultimately didn’t want to spend the money on that. I just said screw it and wore the thing a little bit loose which helped. Then after a few weeks the watch just seemed to fit better. Maybe it molded to the shape of my wrist a bit. Now it’s my daily wearer and I could never imagine not having this watch. So glad I didn’t send it back.
I wanted to say the exact same thing! I own a GW 5000U. I just replaced that strap with a GA 800 strap, and that gave me the extra length and width that I needed.
I've got an 8.25 inch wrist. I got mine a while ago and the truth is I didn't find it very comfortable initially. However, after about 2-3 weeks of constant wear it had simply reshaped itself to my wrist, basically like wearing I'm a pair of jeans. After about 3 weeks use it's gone from quite uncomfortable to very comfortable. It's honestly a shame you sent it back, I've got an extensive collection and apart from my modded Casioak which I wore when I left it to fully charge one day, it's all I've worn in the last 3-4 weeks.
I have 7.75" wrist, and it never happened for me, I gave up, and got a Combi bracelet (which is an expensive "solution"). Maybe heating it up on 8" circumference tube is "the solution".
You can buy an adapter set to allow you to put on a different watch band, or a NATO band. If you really like the watch so much it's worth the investment. On many of my watches I've changed the band, because I rarely liked the original.
I bought a Jays and Kays adapter so that I can put my GWM5610 on a 22mm Nato strap. Other people sell adapters, but theirs had good reviews, so that's what I went with.
My wrist is 7 3/4 - 8 inch. I didn't have this issue. You can also get a different strap if you want. You will regret returning the watch, when the avg price will be 125
This was exactly the info I was searching for. I have a 7.7" wrist and suspected this might not fit well. Thank you very much. Michael, in your comments below suggested a GBD 200 instead. Thank you Michael for suggesting the GBD 200. I researched it and ordered it. It was just about the same price as the 5610. The GBD200 looks absolutely fantastic, but I plan to not use its Bluetooth smart watch functions, just use it as a watch and maybe step counter. It has an amazingly legible screen, even in bright sun (sun reflects off the numbers actually and makes it brighter). I don't mind changing the batteries myself about once every year or two (simple and lots of UA-cam videos on how to do it) and the batteries only cost about $1. It's worth it to have a vibration alarm and not have to keep charging the thing like you would have to charge a Fitbit or other smart watch.
Hello! I also got the same watch for 78 USD during their black Friday sale! I also went nato via a Jays and Kays adapter and it fits very well! Sad that you have to send it back, mainly because of the price we paid to get it!
I just like the original watch to fit well before I mod it. Also on Gshock.com, Casio actually shows the differrent watch with different lug to lug circumferernces in one of their photos, and GWM is one of the smallest. I wish I knew before I ordered it. It was the best deal I found on this watch, glad it worked out for you.

I did try that, I thought it would help, but the watch just slides off to the front of my wrist. I don't know, maybe my wrist is wider sideways and your wrist is thicker vertically. I think the Gshock 56BB would fit better because the lugs have wider angles. amzn.to/3UFrEln
GW-5610 is shorter than the regular square. My wrist is 7,5 inches and I own DW-5600 and GW-5000u. The 5k is the most comfortable watch that I ever owned.
Yes, it’s 3mm shorter, giving the 5610 a slightly more modern fit. It tapers closer down the wrist than the 5600. Although the case is slightly wider than the 5600 though.

as a guy with a 7.5" wrist, I can confirm. HOWEVER, you can replace the band... but that's not for everyone, and some people like the rubbery band. But generally, yes, these watches have very inflexible mounts, so they're practically designed for particular sized wrist...
Gshock's website actually has a lug to lug width chart, here is the link: www.casio.com/us/watches/gshock/product.DW-5600HR-1/ As you can see, the classic square is the smallest. Other Gshocks got much wider opening. I think your idea of flexible mount is the only way to go for this watch. Another reason I returned it is because the watch looked small like a lady's watch on my wrist, it may not look small in the video, but it doesn't look small in person. I think 56BB King will be a better fit for me.
I appreciate your video, I was thinking of getting one, but I'm sure I would have the same problem as you. I understand you can change the strap, but that's not what you expect to have to do with a new watch! 🤔
Thank you, I would say get one and try it out first. Some people may have narrow but thicker wrist, it may work for them. I have a wide yet average thick wrist, that caused me a lot of discomfort.
Yes, you can buy aftermarket straps to replace the OEM ones. It's super simple, just unscrew the screws, and they come right off, no spring bars to mess with.
