Reinhold Glière: Aquarelle op. 34 No. 17 from 24 Pièces Caractéristiques pour la Jeunesse for piano

In 1906 Reinhold Gliere wrote his Album for the Young 12 Pièces Enfantines, Op.31. It seems as if he had become fond of the subject, because just two years later he published another album for young people entitled 24 Pièces Caractéristiques pour la Jeunesse, Op.34. Or the idea was to write a sequel for more advanced young piano students. I recorded the children's album in its entirety • The complete Album for... . Aquarell is the first piece I recorded from the youth album op. 34.
The title Aquarell is probably inspired by the corresponding form of painting and expresses the indefinite and fleeting nature of the piece, both in the treatment of the voice and in the constantly changing harmonies. It is a very tender and touching piece. In the first volume, the piece Rêverie op. 31 is reminiscent of the present piece. • Reinhold Glière: Rêver... Here, too, Gliere worked very similarly with the shifted notes in the right and left hand.
