This channel presents mostly (as sheet music) rarely played piano compositions or piano arrangements. I played all the works myself. Some compositions and arrangements can be heard here for the first time ever or on UA-cam. I only select pieces that I consider worth hearing anew or again because they are in some way original, particularly well done, well arranged or worth listening to. From time to time I also offer musicological-anecdotal background information. Since my youth I have been particularly fascinated by Eastern music, but also by the music of Spain and Latin America, as well as the Gershwins.
I myself am a qualified musician (conductor, pianist, vocal coach) and Master of Musicology from Germany, living, playing, conducting and teaching in Switzerland. I have so far recorded mainly more sustained pieces. This is because, in keeping with my broader activities as a musician, I perceive the melodies on the piano as conductor and singer and try to lead them accordingly.

Xaver Scharwenka: Tarantelle from Album für die Jugend op. 62 No. 12 for piano solo
Performed by Christian Dillig (piano - Sauter grand piano)
Tarantelle (in French) or Tarantella (in Italian, English or German) - Its the rousing and brilliant final piece from the 12-part Album for the Young (Album für die Jugend op. 62) by the German composer of Polish-Czech origin Xaver Schwarwenka (1850-1924). The tempo marking is Molto vivo (very fast). That is certainly an elastic term. I choose a sporty tempo, also in coordination with other classical tarantella compositions. The tarantelle or tarantella is a dance from southern Italy from the region of Taranto in Apulia. Whether the dance has anything to do with the tarantula spider, which is named after the city of Taranto, remains controversial. The tarantella is said to have been played to heal a spider bite. The bitten person was supposed to dance the poison excessive out of himself until he was exhausted. If the work was composed for school use, a performance at a much slower tempo is also conceivable and appropriate.
During his lifetime, Xaver Schwarwenka was a very well-known composer, a friend of Johannes Brahms - Franz Liszt was the godfather of his daughter, and his works were eagerly performed throughout Europe. Perhaps it is because Scharwenka's works hardly go beyond the tonal language of composers such as Schumann or Mendelssohn, to whom he could certainly lend a hand, and were less progressive than those of his better-known contemporaries today, that he was almost completely forgotten soon after his death, even if there is something of a small Scharwenka renaissance again today. Be that as it may, under the influence of Peter Tchaikovsky's Children's Album and probably familiar from his youth with the mother of all Albums for the young by Robert Schumann, Scharwenka also wrote an Album for the young in 1885, which was published in several editions and played in many countries. I have proven that the highly talented Nikolai Amani, a composition pupil of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov who unfortunately died far too early, refers directly to Scharwenka's youth album several times in his album pour la Jeunesse, which is also in 12 parts and which I have recorded in its entirety.
I also recorded the Barcarolle from this album by Scharwenka

Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) Promises by Daniel Hellbach is the 1st piece from his collection RockBallads Vol. 3. Hellbach is a Swiss piano teacher and composer of mainly piano pedagogical literature. Hellbach's merit with his works is to open a door from classical music to rock and pop music and vice versa. I use Hellbach's works a lot in my lessons and recommend anyone interested to ...

Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) In 1906 Reinhold Gliere wrote his Album for the Young 12 Pièces Enfantines, Op.31. It seems as if he had become fond of the subject, because just two years later he published another album for young people entitled 24 Pièces Caractéristiques pour la Jeunesse, Op.34. Or the idea was to write a sequel for more advanced young piano students. I recorded the chi...

Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) Prayer is the 5th piece of the 8 pieces from the Album for the Young by Genari Korganov (1858-1890), which Korganov composed in the year of his death. In the Album for the Young, only The Nurse's Tale (Erzählung einer Wärterin)...

Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) "Erzählung einer Wärtin" (The Old Nurse's Tale) is from the Album for the Young of Genari Korganoff (1858 - 1890), a Russian-Armenian composer and pianist who unfortunately has been largely forgotten and who was once one of the most celebrated young composers in the Russian Tsarist Empire. Korganoff studied composition for a time in Germany with Carl Reinec...

Reinhold Glière: Mazurka op. 29 No. 1 in B minor (with score)
Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) This Mazurka is the first of 3 Mazurkas for piano op. 29 by Reinhold Glière (1875 - 1956). Mazurkas, originally Polish dances in 3/4 time, have fallen somewhat out of fashion as a genre today. Yet they were once super trendy. Mazurkas were not only written in great abundance as light music. Serious Romantic composers after Frederic Chopin and Mikhail Glinka...

Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) Le Mezzetin amoureux (Sérénade-Valse) by the Russian composer Nikolai Stcherbatcheff (1858 - 1922; or as he is also written: Nikolay Shcherbachyov) is a somewhat idiosyncratic waltz composition with many ornamentations and chains of grace notes. It is the last piece in the 12-part best-of edition of Russian piano music compiled by the German-Russian musicol...

Daniel Hellbach: Nocturne No. 7 in E minor (7/7)
Performed by Christian Dillig (piano) A sonorous and fast nocturne - at least in sections? This is not normally what one thinks of a nocturne from its origins: a nocturnal serenade, rather quiet and with a guitar under the balcony of the beloved. However, the term nocturne has long since ceased to be so restricted. Chopin also had loud and fast passages in his extensive nocturne oeuvre. His mos...

Beautiful interpretation! I sense that Kabalevsky was using Chopin's Op. 48 No. 1 nocturne as a model, is it just me?
Their style are quite different, but maybe he got the idea from Chopin’s norturne, I’m not sure
nice
👏🏻👏🏻💐💐
WOW!
Wonderful arrangement of this gorgeous piece. Played so beautifully!
Nice
Beautiful song, with gracie, sharme, adorable.

J'aime beaucoup
Nice melody. Very well played.
Where can I find the sheet? 🙏
Fantastic music!! ❤❤❤
Wonderful❤❤❤❤
Wow! Beautiful! How can I get the music sheet?
Nice performance but I’m not sure it’s a Piazzolla
i'm love Piazzolach
00:18 is very reminiscent of "Money, Money, Money" by ABBA... Same melody.
Insuperabile 😢
More than a nocturne it resembles the style of a prelude, nice
Thank you for your recordings and relevant comments😊🎶
sounds amazing
Und wunderschön gespielt!Kompliment....❤
🙏🙂
Lovely playing.

❤❤❤
Thank you PLEASE HOW CAN I LEARN THIS QUICKLY AND EASILY?? Thanks for sharing
By practicing slowly. My professor once said to me "The slower you get fast, the faster you get fast."
Shut up and take my money
👍
Danke, Christian ! Interesring choises beautifully played. Votre chaîne est une belle découverte 😊
Wow, this is a treasure. Beautiful and elegant, well played!
PDF score please?
can i have a copy pls?
Thank you for the ballad-like rendition of this "oldie but goodie".
Enjoyed listening to this arrangement. Thanks for sharing with us.
Nice interpretation. I would recommend adding more of his Mazurkas to the list, some are really nice, like No.2 or No.4.
Nice played for me it’s just to fast .. The are so many details you cant see / hear in this speed
I worked at government Glier’s music school in Tashkent and never knew that piece. What a little gem. Thank you.
thanks for the upload
Oh wat een heerlijk stuk. Speels, vrolijk
looks very inspired by chopin, nice
Schön gespielt! Geniale Musik wie so einiges von Rachmaninoff.
🙏🙂
It says andante, not allegro.
I believe they're playing andante, if you consider the time signature and count the beats
So wonderful, thank you. 🌷🌷🌷 (Holland)
This is criminally underrated. It's so beautiful.
Gracias por todo !
