My home for three years 1988-1991. Used to work in the ATC when it was all RAF. Did my stint on the Bird Control Unit, and can say with some pride that I never had a bird strike on my watch. Thanks for the video, nice to see the old place again.
My Dad landed his B17 there in 1942 with General Eisenhower on board- at night in a storm. I think it took him 3 times to get down -he talked about it from time to time remembering the ominous 'rock'.
My father was also a commercial pilot and had the chance to take the president of Honduras to México city on a diplomatic visit in 1967 on a dc-7...he recorded part of the ceremony on a super 8 motion camera
My father was there often being aboard Royal Navy warships escorting convoys to Malta . Fortunately although torpedoed off N. Africa they made it back to Gib. 👍🏻🏴
Rode across the runway in a taxi back around 2010, I think it was. There was a cool taxi driver from England driving, and we went on up to visit the monkeys. Thanks for stirring up the memory.
Made a number of Med cruises from 70-74 aboard USS Franklin D. Roosevelt (CVA-42) and I always loved seeing that rock. Sure has changed from when I was there though...that's progress.
You can walk across the runway, I got married there and one night walked into la linea (spain) to get a kebab and walked back I to Gibraltar again 😂, I thought this was flight sim to begin with
@@j777barbasiewicz The new tunnel opened in April .. Personally I dislike it. takes away from Gib. And its shifting completely what area of gib is becoming important. Lots of new building going on the East coast now.
Superb smooth landing, no bumping up and down, crew extremely calm and very British by the sound of them after landing. Can we have more of these posts please, extremely interesting. Would have liked to see shot of plane (after landing) of course❤❤❤
A great sight approaching "the Rock" and seeing what appears to be smoke coming from the top (actually cloud that hangs over the peak) A litle bit of Britain in a foreign land mass. Of such importance in WW2 as well.
Spent many an hour with my nose through the chain link fence watching take offs and landings from the Eastern end, RAF Gibraltar/North Front 1966/69 Great days!
@@angrymonkeyoverlanding7120 I have flown there on a number of occasions in a PC-12. The swirling winds, turbulence and wind-shear as you pass the rock are not particularly pleasant in smaller aircraft.

Lay out of the cockpit I suspect, it’s cramped up there and they Basiclly have limited space and stick things to the sides Plus fairly sure obstructing a forward window with any thing is bad practice
As far as my experience flying private into GIB. No. As we crossed over spanish airspace coming over from the US. I have been told GIB is Visual approach only can not land via instruments.
You should knows whos plane this was, and know why the model is not accurate in the description. Notoriously private owner. On this plane countless times with your husband piloting. Posting tail numbers also a huge no no.
@peterjones6733 ... I think not, as I have always seen planes land here with the rock to the left ... this was to the right here and where was the road crossing?
@@Tidybitz I was stunned that watching videos of MSFS reviews, the sim is now so good it looks real. When this video opens, everything is so crystal, it almost looks like a sim :)
Planes land in both directions ... as the wind changes direction . I would have thought that was obvious. and search for other videos. and road crossing is right in the middle of the video !
Actually a older Global express. Not to many globals in Gib when I posted the video, so the model listed in the description not entirely accurate. And that was done on purpose as the owner who is a former employer hated postings of any thing related to his plane.
With all due respect, it's from the copilots right window. and the Pilot's wife has chatted here, on top of that look at the reflection of the plane in the windows pulling up to the gate. If you knew anything about private planes AFT of the cockpit puts you over the wing, as the plane only seats 11.
No, Cockpit means its shot from the "cockpit" where there are 4 windows 2 forward and 2 to the side. Go look at a photo of an Embraer Global and its kind of obvious that pilots can see 9-3 not a myopic 11-1.

The only thing not accurate is the model of the plane, and that was done at the time to meet the owners rules about posting where his plane was. speak privately and I will give you the tail number as the plane is no longer owned by him and I am not in his employee. Then flightradar will give you every time that plane was in GIB. This was all pre-covid.

Awesome video. Yes birdstrikes are terrible
Absolutely stunning views and a nice visual approach into Gibraltar. Thanks for sharing.
So much more land reclaimed and built upon since I lived there. Great views that really showed the changes.
Thanks for sharing for many who can't afford to visit Gibraltar
Very cheap as a day trip from the Costa Del Sol.

I did that approach several times in a 206 Sqdn. Shackleton, in the 60's...the it was hit the beach and the English-type bars in Gib!
Thank you for sharing. I’ve have two windshear go-around there and a diversion to AGP.
Thank you very much!🙂👍 Indeed a "rocky" Approach!😃
I always am amazed that you can drive across the runway in a bus!! There is an actual public road that crosses the main runway
You can drive across in a bus, taxi, car, you can cycle across or even walk - but you mustn't cross on a red light!
You can no longer drive across the runway. The tunnel is open.

Great video, nice and clear. Like the sound of the gear going down. Have tried to land an A320 here a few times on X-Plane 11. Only managed it once!

Turning onto finals at 300ft. Thats a short final. Is that common for non-commercials at GIB?
Yes. and wind shear is terrible also . And the entire rock is a bird sanctuary.
