This man, reminds me of my uncle, a Mexican American, marine Corp. Veteran who served in both Korea and Vietnam. A few years ago this man was told he'd only live another 3 days est. Due to an undiagnosed and untreated medical condition. He was offered hospital stay but said "I'd rather die in my own home than a hospital bed." He was found 3 days later, dead in his living room with a cigar put out in the adjacent ash tray to the recliner he sat and died in, with an empty whiskey glass, and a half bottle in his freezer. His fingers crossed together with his hands rested calmly on his chest. He was a stern man with a gold heart. And faced death with as much dignity and pride as he faced life. God Bless these hard men who helped keep this country alive.
I'm anglo and I grew up in a ranching community in South Texas. And, I'll tell you what... if I was heading into battle I'd want to be surrounded by a team of rural Mex-Americans. I have never had tougher or more loyal friends.
Thank you for the good words sir! Not all white folks know about them tough as rugged rancheros that know how to fight and hunt like native American warriors =) the ghetto Hispanics make the great ones like Benavidez look bad until you hear their story. But many hispanics from the Edgewood independent school district in San Antonio, TX were sent to fight n die in Vietnam, while those from Alamo Heights had people in high places helping em dodge the draft. I rode a plane with fellow Texan Master Sargent Benavidez back in the 80's. Best trip I ever took. He signed his book to me as we departed. He showed me the medal he carried in a briefcase. He wore during his speeches and special events only. I carry his memory with me today.
I had the honor meeting this man in 1983.. My Bn CDR and him where on the same team in Vietnam...he was there at our commander's farewell dinner.... true American hero
Cuero Texas! The WItch I married first was from Cuero! I watched 10,000 turkeys herded through the downtown part of Cuero in 1967! What a sight to see!
What an honor to just listen his speech. A truly tough, smart, and humble man. I joined the army in 1984 and was fortunate to have NCOs and leaders from his era. RIP MSG.
Myself being a British Army Veteran after 12 years service I have heard and read alot of heroic Citations, but this one from Master Sargeant Roy P Benavidez MOH is one of the Best and this Gentleman deserves this award many times over for his Heroic events he went through to fight for his beloved country with his Brothers in Arms is truely Amazing. I salute you Sir and Thank you for your service too.
To a man that has survived such an incredible time, he is a person that definitely has earned The Medal Of Honor. I believe that it’s awarded to servicemen that makes it seem impossible to have survived such injuries saving others. Although you were awarded this in 1981, and it is 2020, I hope that you are still with us so that you can read our appreciation for what you did. You are a true hero. A truly brave man. Thank you for all that you did back then, and I’m sure throughout your life. You are to always be honored.
I believe he passed away in the 90s. His daughter follows these posts so it doesn't go unnoticed. I'm sure he appreciates your post. He is an angel among us. Thank you for your service as well bud.
You do this man a disservice and don't understand why the medal is awarded. He didn't get the medal because he survived. He got it for his heroic actions.
USMC/US ARMY. 0331/11B/19D....service is not something you weigh, or take time to make a decision on.....you simply serve, when it is your lot to serve. His decisions kept others alive.
He is 100% the embodiment of what makes America great. An inspiration to all no matter education level, social standing, color of skin or religious background.
Met him briefly in 83 or 84 while in, or just after the Q Course, I don't remember where...super nice guy, humble, a hero to us mere mortals, a man to be emulated by all.
We need more people like Roy in today's day and age. A bonafide gentleman who put others first and loved our Country. Very witty man and I only wish I had a chance to meet him in person. I am truly grateful to hear him speak, especially going into Christmas. God bless Roy, will never forget you. RIP
What a great spirit & sense of humor this man had. He talks about impact his seniors had on him. Imagine how his young troopers & junior nco’s must have looked up to him.
A more fierce and brave warrior we may never be graced with again as a nation- he will continue to inspire us for the rest of our days- my father was a demo and explosives expert as a combat engineer and served as a tunnel rat in Vietnam his nights were never restful- I know Roy’s daughter is eternally proud of her father- our nation was lucky to have him as one of our own
Semper Fi to your father. A very dear individual that is close to me was also a combat engineer and I will miss him until we meet again beyond this great Earth.
This man is the epitome of what makes a man a man. God Bless you brother. Anyone who's served this great nation you truly are American heros. Thomas Nikkila ABH3 US Navy. Thanks to all of us.
I LOVE THIS HERO!!!!! One of OUR 82ND AIRBORNE “ FAYETTNAM” HEROES!!! Now THIS is a REAL MAN!!!! Knows how to reflect, move forward and RISE ABOVE ALL OTHERS!!!! Wow what a great man I would like to thank u for your bravery and commitment to our great country so very grateful for all who have died for this freedom we have
Respect, Sir. God bless Texas. and the US Army. You are the glue that holds this country together. We love Americans like you. Thank you for your sacrifices... such a stud. This from a lowly former HM2/ USN.
YES LORD WE NEED MEN LIKE HIM. THESE NOW MEN ARE NOT LIKE WE HAD THEN. THESE ROY AND OTHERS CAN NOT BE BOUGHT !!! LIKE THE PEOPLE NOW THEY HAVE TO BE PAID MONEY. WE PRAY FOR MORE. ROY.
This man was holding his intestines in his hand getting on a helicopter full of his dead and dying buddies, says he was over paid. Now that is a patriot.

There should be, for certain...

I completely agree with you! Dedicated, strong, willing, and loyal are the words I would use to describe my Hispanic friends.

If you were being honest you would know they aren’t called Mexicans in south texas. We call them tejanos

WHY HAS A MOVIE NOT BEEN MADE OF THIS GREAT MAN? WHY? WHY? WHY?
Too busy remaking Disney classics with woke twist. Disgusting. This would be Oscar winner if done right.
Every high school kid in America needs to see the great man. Roy is one cool dude.
Sadly, none of these liberal activist know his name. They would call him a racist for wearing that uniform.
We need a few million more like him. One of the greatest heros ever.
A few million more like him and we couldn't possibly lose any war.
@@user-ym2kb1cp5e a few more million like him and we might not have it
@@mikeferguson1833 Possibly or it would be approached from a different angle.
