- This is a 1966 Alfa Romeo GT vintage race car, fresh off a full restoration. It features a 1.6L four-cylinder engine with individual Weber carbs, and has been modified for track days and cruising in the style of a period trans-am racer.

Why is The Punisher a car mechanic who maintains old race cars?
atascatorDAOC lmao it's Frank castle
I haven't watched the Punisher yet cuz everytime I look at the guy reminds me of Shane from the walking dead.
Evil snicker included :D
OMG I was thinking the same thing!! LOL
Why not? :D
Matt, you need to drive Alfaholics GTA-R 240. Carbon bonnet, doors, boot lid, titanium suspension components, 240bhp 2 litre N/A 4 pot running motec engine management etc and a kerb weight of 830kg. Chris Harris loves it, Dickie Meaden wants to have it's children, and i'm obsessed with it.
Own lord yes he does!
Beautiful! I wish car companies these days would build more small rwd cars like the giulia or escort or even the 510.
After this drive he probably will do a engine rebuild
Well Alpha is building the Giulia again, although it's not small.
But we do have the Toyobaru twins, Miata, and a bunch of fun/quick "hot" hatchbacks to drive.
Alpine has just launched the A110. It seems to hit your brief pretty well.
@@Dolby109 new hatchbacks these days are ridiculously quick. personally not my taste but they are good fun in a lot of ways
BMW 128i sport is the modern version IMNSHO
I’m really going to miss these one takes, can’t help but get sad each one I watch now 😔
Sarah -n- Tuned hey what are you doing here. Make more vids for us subscribers sarah!
Hey sarah,
Watched you on your channel the otherday.
Good work!
Sarah -n- Tuned go away with yo weird and cringing content
don't be rude
Tbone Scriv salty because hooked on phonics failed your illiterate ass? ...bruh
Hi Matt my mum had the 1300 junior GT and then a 1600 junior GT in the 70’s both new. The red 1600 we had a great road trip from Nottingham to Antibes, on the way back my dad had it well over 100 fully laden down following a bmw motorbike. We spoke to the motor cyclist at the port and he was impressed it kept with him. So wish mum had put them in a garage and kept them. She replaced with a Renault 5! This one in the film seemed to be a bit gutless. Thank you for the films have thoroughly enjoyed watching them over the years . Best wishes mark
I am re-watching this video... and I own a GTV that I built a forged piston, carillo rods, twinspark 2.0l engine..... there is NO WAY he could be flat for that long... I can barely go flat in 5th gear for 2-3 seconds before being well north of 100 mph.... something is wrong in this video with this engine, maybe timing is off?? even the 1600 cc engine can't be THAT far behind the 2.0l at WOT.
Gotta hand it to Mr John Campion. I love every single piece of art in your colection. And you drive them!
I’ve got the 1967 MGbgt w/OD in 3rd & 4th that I bought in 1988. I had a spinal cord injury in a work-related accident & am now a C-5 Quad, and I have one of the most rare MGbgt examples made. It was just about 70% restored when I married, and now it’s been sitting for long enough to need new tires. This video inspires me to get it redone, last year of the steel dash, the electric overdrive in both 3rd & 4th, back the metal respray of the original British Racing Green, and somehow affiliated with Paddy Hopkirk…(aftermarket gas-pedal). Even the engine was rebuilt 50 miles ago before it sat for 15 years. It’s too hard to say goodbye to it while it’s in this knick. Wife will kill me, but I’ve got to get it done to a point where it’s looking like it did when it came home from Bristol Motors in Victoria, BC. It makes me sad to see it in this shape. Thanks for sharing this inspiring video, beautiful car.
Utter perfection. As an Alfisti, this is pure sex. The Alfa Twinspark is hands down one of the best sounding 4cyl ever made. Almost nobody can inspire passion for driving like an Alfa. Unless you own one...you just don' t know. They will infuriate you, but they are never boring. Also, the "Italian Tune Up" really works - for my 155 V6 it re-aligns the tappets and makes the engine sing better. Seems this little Giulia was in bad need of one, that idle sounded bad and the engine obviously was not running at 100%.
Twin cam*
Car with personality and an honest engine sound.
The panic pass was the highlight of this video. A really needed one.
Instant thumbs up because it's an Alfa Romeo.
At 3:25 the owner in the passenger seat rests his arm on the window sill, then , Matt also does this, and out of a typical guy reaction, they each recognize they don't want to be seen "mimicking" the other male and put their arms back in unison; creating some awkwardness, or slight "Cringe" if you will.
He's not the owner
That sideways glance at Matt as he goes 3 for 3 in the passing area. Oh my... Cheers Matt. Even though Florida has the wrong roads for the Giulia, this was a good one
Car sounds great!! I’ve always loved this car❤️🚗🚘
Perfect timing with the new Giulia's Car of the Year award!
It should be able to hit redline in 4th without that much trouble. Possibly something off with the carb setup or ignition timing.
Beautiful car. Though is it just me, or does the "engineer" seem more like the garage muscle than an actual tech? IDK, something just doesn't feel...right.
Motor sounds flat/retarded to me. Maybe needs to be tuned
I have a little rwd 1.6 car kinda like this, though just a 4 speed. Figuring out how to get the most from its small weight and power is half the fun. That was rad.
ohhh keep them coming mat that sure brings nostalgia back into mind
I love this body of the Guilia. Such a sexy car. I just wish that 4 bangers today sounded this good.
Fawgeddabowdittt!! Loved the GTV since I first saw one in the driveway of a neighbor in the early 1970's!! Am I the only one who cringed a bit the way Matt was piloting this fresh rebuild??!! I think Andrew did...
Hey Matt, I don't think this guy could describe how an internal combustion engine works if you held a gun to his head! 😂
Love this and the 2002 shaped cars.
This got a like before starting the video. Stunning car.
GTs are so beautiful! If I could have an Alfa it would be a GTV or a first generation Duetto.
Florida -- Why I stopped riding a sport bike!
Those carbs sound so good
Matt is rockin the hell outta that Batman Rolex!
A really beautiful looking car lovely wheels...... it must be a lot of fun.....
the car might be ubdercarburated due to the low octane fuel in the us ( i might be wrong) , but this is coming from an alfa guy and dad, we have some experience with those and it seems a little sloweer than it should be
Would've been nice to see an 037 before now. I'll miss these One Takes too.
The Alfa Giulia is and always has been my choice as the most beautiful car ever made. Period.
One of my dream cars, they're only getting more expensive by the day
At least it's an honest review. The car was fun in it's time. The roll cage and harness belts crack me up.
I love cars with haracter maybe you could do a monthly video on vehicles with character not just cars, but boats and anything else that strikes your fancy.
A truly great car with the wrong guy looking after it!
Che bellísima machina! I love it.... I'd almost be afraid to thrash it and pick up a rock chip lol
Was just tripping balls thinking i have seen this before then i remember its this dudes boss that own's a heap of cars.
Awwwwwwwww fuck yess. More Alfa’s m8
Dude that thing was just like STOP SHORT SHIFTING ME!!
it just needs Alpha C4 engine conversion. What a beauty
That "mechanic" doesn't seem to know much about cars. He does have a sniffing problem though.
Yeah, dude is on something. I don't think the sweating's all about the heat...
Beautiful car...just needs a bit more horsepower. I like everything else about it.
I want that Fulvia in the background.
Beautiful as are all Alfa’s!
Beautiful car collection, but I would go insane going that slow on a straight road.
If you're in Florida again, take a trip to Ozella Trail. There's a particular corner that is known for a sudden decrease in radius that is notorious for wiping out motorcyclists.
Sick three car pass!
M yess i know!
DANG that was out of its' element loll Matt could hardly deal with it
I feel like 170 rear wheel horsepower would be a great number for that car given the sub 2,000lbs curb weight. Of course no turbos allowed, those wheels may be too heavy if 110-120hp is winding out that slow, sounds like it could use some lighter components idk if it's the wheels themselves being slightly larger, or the flywheel, driveshaft who knows but 120 whp should be enough to atleast get bmw 320i-like acceleration out of this if certain components were made lighter.
You are correct, I think MAYBE the timing was off?? this was a recent rebuild you know...
lol they're so sweaty at the end when they take their seatbelts off!
such a *sexy* car, no other way to describe it
Beautiful ride! Should have gotten Alfaholics to do the motor.
Great looking car
Matt, that 6400 sounded more like 7400... But that was fun to watch.
It`s a good day when you`re driving a Giulia GT wearing a Batman. Just for the hell of it couldn`t you do a "state of the collection"-thing on your watches Matt....
What a great car !
Finally a proper car
What a gift to wake up too!
Un'auto da corsa da usare su una strada con curve e tornanti (It is a racecar to use on a road with corners and bends).
Ah, I was losing hope for America, but this vid‘ is putting it all back into good order.
My favorite car in the entire world ....ever
Love this car!
Sweet little canyon carver.
The best Alfa Romeo is the GTA where the A stands for Allegerita, translated means lightened, the entire body is build in aluminum.
I like this guy's laugh
If you ever get the chance to re-do some of these cars on a better road, please do
Laughed at both of them putting their arm on the windowsill and thinking better of it more than once.
Should`ve used a nicely modified 2.0 ltr. with 200bhp to 230bhp and regular gearbox ratios. This 1.6 with short gearing is just silly in Florida.
Alfas have that rough idle because maybe they have hotter cams. I like the engine sound, see those Weber carburators
Beautiful car:)!!
Welcome to flatlands Florida!.....home of the best driving roads in America!😞
Beautiful and slow - great fun car that won’t get you put in gaol.
Man o man, I had a '67 Guilia Sprint Gt, 1600 cc, dual Webers, four wheel disc brakes, 5 speed, independent 4 she'll suspension. A much more tech advanced car than the iconic Porsche 356...
Check Chris Harris' vid on this car. Shit is badass. Carbon fiber resto mod version of this car available to the public for 200k .
Running max rpms while breaking-in the engine... well
Yikes, right?
so much for taking care of the car/respecting it.
alexander1485 this car will get walked by the 1300 Junior model. It's got no power which someone failed to set the engine up right and to hit 7500 you need stiffer valve springs.
Will be fine. Babying engines is worse than breaking them in hard
I know where there is one in florida abandoned. I would love to see in good hands restored
That car looks like the sweetest cherry ever!
You missed the point with the Alfa. Designed for twisty running roads. Driving with turns punctuated with sprints. The way you drove it was not addressing its strengths. You complained about top speed and horsepower. Light, dynamic, manoeuvrable ads up to fast track and rally performance. On a race track it can mix it with Porsche and others because you can corner bloody fast with a perfect racing line and get ahead. Straight roads in Florida are not showing that off. Great car though.
Beautiful
Is this the " It likes to rev, it'll take 12k" guy? X)
it sounds like it is running on 3 cilinders, or the ignition isn"t setup right, or the carbs are not tuned rght, the carbs on this car are very hard to setup, you need a proper mechanic with knowledge about these old italian alfa romeo"s to make them work right. i feel like the carbs or the ignition system is not setup properly, or the engine is not broken in yet. the car should rev much faster, and it should go faster to
agreed. I suspect the timing is off or the spark is weak, as you can hear the carbs spit every once in a while. When mine do that it's either timing or in a rare case could be the pump-shot that is too small. They may have intentionally kept the timing retarded during the break-in period as this is a new engine.
Webers aren't that hard… well if you have a brain.
Thanks Jimmy. An armchair mechanic that knows what he's talking about! That car sounds perfectly healthy to an old Alfa nut like myself. Webers are not at all difficult to set up, I taught myself on my first Alfa, and earned a reputation for being the go-to Alfa guy in our town. The Dellorto and
Solex carbs are just as easy. As for Lex comments, I suspect the car in this video has the standard 1600 gearing setup, the 1600s were not as peppy as the 1300 or 1750 and 2000s.
Weak idle another sign of poor ignition!
Good looking car, but not well sorted at all.
still hopes it will continue with another host
A boosted sr20 wud work wonderful in this car
I know that car is off timing. 10 degrees? It is pinging and I think it's a bit retarded in time but it is beautiful.
Jay i agree it seems off timing
Agree
Those aftermarket wheels kill it for me, I'm pausing 43 seconds into the video to type this, the "stock" convex 16 hole steel wheels would've looked better
I've never seen anyone look so nervous when some one drove their car for a video review.
She's not too quick, but looks and sounds great.
What happened to the Delorean - last update was 4 years ago as far as I can see?
This car should be MUCH faster than it is. It should easily do 100mph. Something is not right. Cams dialled in? Timing needs to be advanced. Is it jetted correctly? I have that motor and it should rev its nuts off while screaming at 7000rpm and still pulling.... i just watched the end of the video... car stalls because its in Florida? Seriously? NO ! The "engineer" is utterly clueless. These engines love humidity (the bodies don't). It stalls because "its hot"... wtf? I've driven mine in 43c, no problems.
Engine on this alpha ain't tuned right for sure, sounds like it needs more timing, points gap? Is it set up for Florida, hsat soak, get true cool air into engine then jet the fuel for the envioriment, not what standard manual says for Italy,...it sounds way to rich and not enough adance on timing dizzy cap,..its so bloody obvious,..it should b properly quick even in Florida heat if set up even 80% power...sorry but the engineer doesn't seem to b very confident because u should not be letting it b tested with 100 miles only on it...anyway what do I know, it might just b bad luck on both alphas and the escort, even though that one ran better it also was not nearly running as good as it should ov,...feel sorry for matt as he didn't get anything like the real experience on any ov these cars... Sorry to b a pain 😒
Actually if you've ever driven an Alfa with a fresh rebuilt motor it'll feel a lot slower until the engine completely breaks then you'll feel a huge difference in power. Also this is how you break the car in you can't baby it around. Matt is also right that it idles like shit it should be smooth. It also could possibly have a 4.10 or lower diff for the track which will be slow as hell on the street. It also shouldn't die when you push the clutch in and coast to a stop and when he downshifted into second it grinded gears because that is what starts grinding first when the synchros get weak.
RIP
How reliable are the new Alfa Romeos?
Yea...this is not very entertaining without any twisties. Pass.
I find it hilarious the owner of all these amazing cars ironically is living in one of the flattest, least twisty places on Earth.
Yeah, Florida is absolutely dead flat (like the difference between the highest and lowest points is something hilarious like 150 feet) and virtually all of its roads are ridiculously straight. I wouldn't live there for a million dollars a year. I'd fall asleep at the wheel and become the first driver in Florida history to have a single-vehicle accident sober. Plus the heat/humidity is miserable, plus all those Floridians... No, thanks.
Make a review with the new giulia qv!!
Did Matt just do permanent damage to the transmission?
For 10 grand you could make 200 hp with this but the real tuning is in making it lighter
the fellow that owns these cars is from my home town CORK IRELAND
What, noiceee
I suspect that engine is in need of tuning, maybe. They never had problems with not starting or stalling on a hot day when I was a kid - in Australia where it's often in the mid-100s in summer - and it really seemed to be lacking power in the upper rev range, kinda running out of puff and straining to rev past 5500 rpm or so. And while it's about the same power as my brother's stock Fiat 124S BC (and the same size engine), the FIAT would pull almost to redline in 5th.
