I've been loving this new feature! The only issue I've noticed is that when I select a browser application in the window management, it ends up opening in my existing browser window. It would be great if there was a way to specify whether I want a new browser window or not.
With the custom layouts can you move apps to specific screens and virtual desktops? So can I always put slack on screen2 desktop4 and discord on screen3 desktop6?
This is a really awesome feature and thank you so much for the video. Just a suggestion, I think that the lighting looks a little harsh, at least in this video compared to prior videos. But outside of that, I really appreciate the tutorial. It's really helpful for those trying to really get the most out of it.
How about window and workspaces navigation throw different workspaces like in Linux window managers like hyperland, you could navigate to different work spaces by window key and the number of workspace for example win + 1 go to work space one and so on
Great stuff with window layouts, but please can you add: 1. padding for windows in the layouts 2. option to open several tabs in a browser (Ex tab 1 could be the website and tab2 could be the admin)
Love Raycast. Too bad I cannot open two Finder windows side by side using C.W.M. commands. Eg. Downloads / Documents. Only open app instance at a time? Or am I missing something something? Thanks and keep up amazing work!
It would be great if we could have these 2 options when creating a Window Layout Command: - Control the stacking layer of the windows. For example, If I stack windows of same size above one another, I can't select back the ones below. - Add an option to control every other open windows (excluding the apps I manually positioned). This way, I could set for example my dev workflow on one monitor, and any other apps on the other monitor. Another use would be when sharing a screen, I could easily set aside any apps and only display the relevant ones (especially useful when you can't share on your external monitor because of its unusual aspect ratio (ultra-wide monitors).
This is a great feature i love it….. im wondering if any of you can give me a hand with a limitation i have regarding the focus window. If i do a 3 window layout with different apps, i cant switch the focus window easily (alt-tab wont work how i want on this case). I can however if i use apps like aerospace or amethyst. Those allow to control and move the focus window. Is there a way i can have a shortcut to change the focus window?
Is there anyway where if I move a window to the right with ctrl+alt+cmd+→, then if I press up with the same modifiers: ctrl+alt+cmd+↑, then the windows height would shrink half way or even cycle between shrinking half up, 2/3 up, or 1/3 up, sticking to the top? And it would shrink whether window was on the left or right side of the window at the time of executing the command
I tested the custom layouts but expected something a bit more dynamic. For example: - open app1 in the left 1/3, and app2 in the right 2/3 - this should apply to any monitor and resolution. Setting window size by pixel is pretty inflexible. I use the same window layout on a big screen when the macbook is connected to it, and on the macbook screen when mobile, but the custom layouts don't carry over. I feel like this should be simple so I wonder if I'm missing something.
@@somrigostsaas Yep, that does the trick. I knew I might be missing something. Thanks! After my comment I spent an afternoon setting up bash scripts to basically do the same, but using deeplinks to the Raycast window management commands. There's some timing quirks but it works well.
.... also: 3. I've tried to set several work environments (firefox on left, vscode on the right) and have them open in different spaces/desktops. After opening the first work environment in the first desktop, i switched to the next desktop and opened the second work environment but the firefox link was opened in the firefox instance on the first desktop, therefore: - would be great to be able to specify "individual app instance"
Nice update. For the Window Layout feature, do you need to disable Stage Manager first? I'm trying to use it but Stage Manager is fighting for control as the windows are launched.
there’s a setting in window management regarding stage manager, it’s a toggle you turn on or off. does messing with that make it work for you? otherwise, give me an update and i can talk to the team
@@raycastapp Hopefully the technical difficulties get sorted out 😅 i would need this functionality all the time. BetterTouchTool helps a bit but not exactly the way i need.
Would be great if raycast could take the current size and position from an app in custom window layout. So I can arrange everything and create the custom layout afterwards with the need of positioning / framing / aligning again. Thanks ❤
@@chezchezchezchez Being able to find things which I might that exactly remember. And de-duplication for being able to optimise for space as well as reduce clutter in the clipboard history
Great! But unfortunately, it does not support full screen windows with split view. It also works quite poorly when using stage manager. For "create window layout command" feature. Thanks.
I love raycast. Will the current fuctions of raycast be free forever. I am debating betwen alfreed and raycast. I want raycast, but I am afraid, it will not be free in the future. If that the case I may switch to other one. Thanks.
Pedro, you have the most soothing voice and demeanor! Love these videos, and love Raycast!
that's very generous that most of the main commands (not talking about window management) are free.
And they will always be!
@@raycastapp thank you !!

Can we manage “spaces” or virtual spaces?
Spaces are a little bit tricky, so they’re not currently supported. Multiple monitors are, though
That’s what I need. Window management is good enough already
@@raycastapp If I switch to an app on another monitor, will the mouse move over there as well as in i.e. Aerospace?
@@DenCato AFAIK this is not the case for Aerospace, it does in a native tiling window manger like i3. Still curious if it does in Raycast though.
@@lenardborn8426 It absolutely does in Aerospace. I'll test Raycast next week so I'll post my results here.

What about dual monitor window layouts? Can we have a layout for monitor one and a different one on monitor two for the same layout command?
Yes! If you have two or more monitors connected, you should see them as an option in the Create Layout command
@@raycastapp Arc seems to open a new floating window, is there a way to prevent that? :D
Only with Raycast set of tools I realized how much my thought is faster than my machine.

Can't wait for window tiling or some kind of automatic window arrangement without having to create your own layout. Similar to how Amethyst does it.
Speaking of windows, when will the Raycast be available on Windows? 😅
No
I am missing the ability to focus "navigate between apps", is this possible?
