  • When your piece is finished etching, here's what we do! (this was about 30 mins - may take longer just try scrap pieces until you get your timing down ;) ) IMPORTANT!!!! To dispose of etchant (if it gets contaminated or is taking much longer than usual to etch.. takes a while trust me!) Neutralize your acid SLOWLY with baking soda and seal in a mason jar. Take it to your local landfill and ask them to dispose of it as HazMat!!!!

I've been watching a few of your tutorials and they are really helpful. Thanks for sharing these tips. I love to etch and the biggest problem I have had is some biting through and the heavy texture in the etched part that I am not personally fond of. I can't tell you how many pieces I have ruined because I sanded off the depth trying to get a good finish. Fortunately I have been learning using brass. I'm also adding citric acid for the Edinburgh etch. Do you have any tips about this? Thanks again :)

Roberta how long does the ferric nitrate last? Will you be able to tell when it is no longer good? Thanks!!
